OK so I'm on a strict data cap so I can't download huge clients and patches. Therefore last year I got a friend to copy his LotRO folder, zip it up and give it to me on DVD. I managed to update the client to the latest patch when I got the DVD and played through the trial.

Now I'm wanting to give it another try and have gotten the patches from somebody, but when I double-click on the standalone updater it says "Cannot find an installed copy of The Lord of the Rings Online Updater (UK)" I have the EU client installed and the patching worked in the past so I'm not sure what the problem is all of a sudden.

I've tried running the LotRO launcher, clicking on "Update" and navigating to the updater from there, but I still get the same error message. Any ideas on how to get it to recognise that I have the game on my machine?

"I struggle to find the words that negate my meaning. I fail to comprehend what message is given"

I think the problem is that you can just copy the game from someone.. you have to actually install it on the computer! Hope you can solve it somehow...

edit: maybe this can help you http://community.codemasters.com/forum/showthread.php?t=295736

Yeah I know that's the problem. My issue is that patching worked, but now it suddely won't anymore.

Thanks though, I'll read through that thread.

Only the dead have seen the end of war- Plato

The only thing that might solve the problem is to remove all LOTRO files from you're pc. go to my computer - -double click on you're harddrive - - - - double click program files - - - find Turbine folder, delete - -- reinstall LOTRO and update the game. THis happened to me before when i unistalled the game, and then reinstalled.
