The simple answer to your question is that Intel are better but AMD are cheaper.  As for the quad Vs duo debate.  Duo is fine for most games at the moment but the industry is catching up, if you want to be a little bit more future proofed go for quad.

hey guys,

I am thinking of buying parts to build a computer. As i have read other forums i have relised that it shall be cheaper to build one instead of getting a pre-built one. So can anyone help me find out if these components are compatible please?

motherboard

processor

case

DVD-RW

CPU cooler

HDD

RAM

GPU

PSU

Plus i need to find out what other cabling OR anything else i shall require to make it operational

Thank you if you can help

Adrien

Okay first off yes they are compatible BUT....

1. That motherboard has built in onboard graphics

2. You can fit 1066 MHz RAM and have only chosen 800 MHz

3. I know a couple of people that have had some problems using that particular video card under Vista.  These maybe isolated incidents however so you may want to ask others who have the same card.

4. All the actual cables for inside the case will come with the motherboard and Psu

5. Try www.scan.co.uk as they are cheaper

If you need anything else just send me a pm

Okay, you know what, Angel left and I happened to chance on this. I'm his fiance and first off what's making you look stupid is that fact that you obviously didn't read a damn thing he posted. We DO NOT have the money to but a new computer, we have a enough to but a little upgrade for now. At the very beginning he told you this, obviously you guys aren't smart enough to read, let alone answer his question. Thank you all for your time but keep your opinions to yourself unless you read the whole damn thing and have an ACTUAL  answer for the question, not a bunch of BS.

Perhaps you should read my previous post in it's entirety because the only ones looking stupid here are you and your boyfriend.  If he insists on getting another vga card for his PC then there are a number of PCi cards here http://shop.ebay.com/?_from=R40&_trksid=m38.l1313&_nkw=pci+graphics+card&_sacat=See-All-Categories  Note PCi and not PCi-E as the latter would not fit.  Also ensure that the onboard Intel graphics can be disabled before fitting a new card.

In answer to the question about what games you could play on that machine just do a google search for retro games that were released in 1999 - 2000

Okay mate, first of all take a look at this http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/DELL-OPTIPLEX-GX110-SFF-PC-PENTIUM-III-667Mhz-7-5Gb_W0QQitemZ180233800548QQihZ008QQcategoryZ179QQcmdZViewItem because that is how much your entire rig is worth, and I'm being generous.  Sorry if that sounds harsh but you are talking of spending at least double of the PC's value on a video card.  Secondly, PCi-E had not even been developed in 1999 when that PC was manufactured, what you have is standard PCi and I would be very surprised if any retailer stocked PCi video cards anymore.  With that said I would advise you to check for one on EBay or some other similar outlet.

Before you buy one you need to check the bios settings to ensure that the onboard Intel graphics can be disabled.  If they cannot then looking for a new card is a moot point as you would just create a conflict between the two graphics systems.

I thought 2008 was going to be the golden year for MMO's, but sadly we are witnessing many companies practicing the art of "throwing shit against the wall to see if it can stick (become the next WoW)".  Publishers and devs are hucking up hail mary's, but none of them are good passes to begin with.

WAR has been 3 years in development which is shorter than most mainstream MMO's to date.  If you are going to troll at least get your facts right.

If you page though all the video comments he even admitted at the start. It's amazing though how many of the other people on the YouTube comments took it seriously.

Well, if the internet is influential enough to win a presidency, I guess it's good enough to choose my games for me.

Heh. So what you're saying is this fellow is on a "viral" crusade against AoC. Interesting, that.

He certainly seems to be on something there are 97 videos, but only two seem to be about AoC.

He also likes to wear disguises so maybe he thinks he is the next 'Benny Hill'.

OT, my apologies; Was a three hour marathon tonight on PBS of Red Dwarf. Damn..we all laughed.

This is a paper thin "reason not to play AoC". You chose this? There are huge glowing targets just waiting for criticism, you chose this guy?

A half-hearted thumbs horizontal.

you haven't played AoC... and you have no idea what you're talking about.
Noone said AoC was completely groundbreaking... but even an idiot would know and see that the combat is actually much more interactive than other MMOs... and that can only be a good thing....

I know this is the WAR forum but it doesn't hurt to be open-minded about other games as well

Okay I have been keeping quiet since the 3rd page but I gotta answer this one :)

All FC did with the combat mate is to split it up and anybody with a gaming keyboard can put it back together again and in doing so gain a large advantage over others in PvP.  Let's see, a combo when you have to press right, up, right, left or whatever just gets programmed to macro key 1 so instead of clicking on four arrows in sequence you now just press one key.  Next combo to macro key two, next to macro key three etc. etc. you get the picture.  When I was playing AoC all my combos were programmed to my macro keys and my double taps were programmed to my extra mouse buttons.  In this way I had a huge advantage over anyone using a standard mouse and keyboard so all FC did was give more power to those gamers that could afford the extra hardware.

I did the exact same thing. I felt cheap after logging off though, but still. The combat system is BS. I tried it without macros and it did feel refreshing at the time, untill I remembered I have a G15 keyboard. That's when things started to get ugly. It instantly became the WoW-combat system and I had a very strong feeling I wasn't the only one doing it like that.

Again, it felt cheap, but it could be done, and Funcom can't do anything about it.

Exactly, there is nothing innovative about AoC's combat system whatsoever.  It's like smoking I suppose, most mmo's have the ready mades that you just take out the pack and light, AoC wants you to roll your own and those with the fast rolling machine come out on top :)

As for community.  AoC's community is piss poor as is WoW's, as I said previously LotRo had the best of the three games you mentioned but if WAR's turns out anything like used to exist on DAoC then LotRo will be left far behind.  If you had played DAoC back in the day you would know what I mean.

Except that back in the day mmorpg's weren't mainstream yet, these days, everyone and their dog (well, the pc gamers), play them, and you'll get tons of the bad apples in WAR, simply because its "the next great thing to play" in their minds..

And grr @ the cross-faction people

Build a better mouse trap and the world will beat a path to your door...... Wonder how rich you would become if you invented a working WoW kiddie filter :P

Well I just started posting... Just because I haven't posted here before my points are meaningless?

I seriously beg to differ on both AoC and Lotro... try and keep an open mind and not jump on the bandwaggon.... And you finding Lotro boring is just your opinion... especially since it has much more interesting partying than most games....
Then again you find War exciting and I don't.... which is why we're having this conversation... differance of opinions :)

So what you're saying is that any game that hasn't got RvR can't breed a good community ?
Seriously.....

No your opinions are not meaningless, as I said they are as valid as everyone elses but you will not really get taken seriously as you only had 1 post.  People are used to others creating new accounts with the sole purpose of game bashing, god knows why but they do.  Anyway.  I had a very open mind about AoC, played it far beyond lvl 50 before I cancelled my sub and the game is nothing more than shallow eye candy, it brings nothing new to the table and a lot of what it does bring is either broken or missing.  LotRo I played first when it released and what a pile of crap it was at that point, and again about six months ago, it has got a lot better but the boredom factor is still there, maybe the new expansion will improve it even more but I will be too busy with WAR to find out.  WoW I levelled two toons to level cap, game is good for what it is and what it is has been copied or stolen from other titles, there is nothing new there at all.

You will be able to run the game on lowish settings.  I seriously wouldn't bother upgrading the cpu to another 939 as it honestly isn't worth it.  You are looking at another athlon 64 or an opteron 100 series at best.  i would save up a little until you can afford a better upgrade.

You're right; we're just lazy I guess. However, legal action may not be the best course. For instance, I still say that everyone here would agree that boycotting Funcom is 1) easy to do, 2) free, 3) hurts Funcom's wallet, and 4) something everyone can do without knowing law. To those people who say "Man stop taking it so seriously, just get a refund and shut up"...it means you're accepting that the company did that to you.

Admittedly, a simple MMO video game may not be enough incentive to cause any kind of action other than returning that game and forgetting about it. That's fine, but if we can send a message to other companies that we won't take this kind of crap, it could make future MMOs better. Or it could not; the developers have to be smart enough to understand that fact...

While I agree with you that boycotting Funcom's products is the best way to go, there really is no sure fire way to make sure that it works. There are just too many gamers out there and there is absolutely no organization what so ever. In order for it to really work, thousands of people need to be involved and I just don't see that happening.

Thousands have already been involved and spoken, how many cancelled subs do you think AoC has suffered since release?
