Sorry, as a PUG lover I already stated I wouldn't support a game which doesn't support PUG adequately.

A MMO without abundance of PUGs is just what you are seeing now.

You NEED peoples to believe in the PUGs and to make them, and to promote them.  This is the lifeflow BEFORE anything else.  Raiding, PvP, RvR...whatever!

Most MMOs are trying to please the same players.  There are only that many players which will actually enjoy Raiding, PvPing, RvRing.  They  almost all have an endgame resolving around these 3 gameplays solely.  If they are playing WoW, EQ2 or WAR, they are not playing the other games...and you won't magically turn the Anofalye or anyone without the affinities for these endgames into such a player!  :P

The endgame is what will keep your game alive in the longterm, as it will make sure experienced players stick around and welcome new players in the game.

Devs are all rejecting grouping/soloing as the ultimate means of an endgame for some reason.  I would just tease them and say it is just too hard for their little intellect!  :P

EQ2 was dead from launch.

For me, it was the case as well.  Well, from 1 week in, but, that's pretty much launch for devs, isn't it?

I tried to dig in, I even purchase a new computer for EQ2.  I resist all my urges and warning signals.  But in a week, even thought I was a lowbie...the endgame kills me, as I KNEW it would ruins my experience, just as in EQ.  WoW/FFXI died in a day for me.  Vanguard, AoC and WAR never even got the chance of a try.

The endgame is just that important to me, and I don't want to raid, PvP, RvR or do anything of that type.  Or more precisely, knowing that the endgame won't ruin my gaming experience is that important.  Raiding, PvP and RvR all ruins my gaming experience when it comes to an endgame as developped in the current MMOs...with the exception of CoX versions of these endgames.

Solo for endgame?  Not my ideal thing, but I would have tried it, I have no idea if I would like that.  My idea of endgame is resolving around grouping however, but I wouldn't fire against soloing, I hardly see any reason to hunt it down.  I never stop playing a MMO because of it soloing components.

As EQ2 fails to grasp my interest...I tried WoW and FFXI, both fail even faster.  City of Heroes was able to keep me with the help of City of Villains up to about a year ago.  I left CoX because of the nerfs and the fact I didn't know what else to do, so I got the feeling of losing what I already did, and not really knowing what to do...if anything CoX needs more solo/group content to restore it interest in me, not less...but I dunno, the nerfs really aggravated me, I am a big baby when it comes to games.

DIE HERETIC!  :P

Teasing.  Just saying, that I am sold out on the thematic of the game.  I still have heavy concerns about the PvPvE which will most likely ruins the PvE, but...I have to try this game...can't resist...urges is too strong.

Animes inspired?  Well, prolly a good thing with a thematic about angels and demons if you get my meaning...because otherwise you have cartoons (YIKES, NO!) or realist (Okay sicko, come on, demons with a realistic...no, no, no!).

Me want to try it!

Sooo many elitists opinions my head is hurting.

It is very easy to explain.  The games are more accessible, they are more casuals, they are more friendly, they reach a broader audience which doesn't care as much.  As a result, the new players may find writting tedious.

Half the adults I know would find it hard to even write the answer I just did, not everyone is chatty in a written form.  Most adults which will find it okay to write such an answer, would just not see the point to do it, why would they care?  See, not everyone is as friendly and open minded.  Finally, most peoples are selfishs and they would hardly do anything which doesn't benefit them in a way or another.

Could add that most peoples which pass all these criterias wouldn't be here, on an online website about MMOs while not playing.  The peoples are here, in this very thread, are all a rare thing in the Internet world...and in the MMOs world.

That's is part of the reason why the devs caters to some players here...and spoil them badly enought to even ruin their own game...which lead to my angry comment about all the elitists answers I read here.  Ahhh...I need a hug!  :P

A brute has 75% of the resists and the defense of a Tanker.

A brute has about 85% of the HPS of a Tanker.

A brute has about 90% of the damage of a Tanker.

For a brute, Fury can give you a 100% damage bonus, to be on par* with a tanker (considering your lower resist/defense and hps), you have to be at around 40%, which isn't much of a problem in a group or if you are hyper...but if you are a soloer and laid-back (duties), than your fury will always be depleted and it will hurt you.  Your fury built up everytime you hit someone or are hitted.

For a tanker, you earn aggro you didn't even deserve, making you the natural aggro magnet even without doing much.

Resists and defense caps are about the same, hps caps is slightly higher for the tanker (not much) and damage cap for the brute is off the scale.

Rock Armor...Granite (level 32 for tanker and 38 for brutes) is over twice better than any other toggle in the game, damage/resist-wise...so in the endgame, if peoples want a real "tank", the datas doesn't compete.  This is not saying other sets have nothing they can do, but in some setting and situations, it may make every other set obsolete...power gamers will feel that way a lot.  Mobility issues and damage penalty.

Invul Armor...from the start; it is the "best" tanking set up and until the point where the rock get granite, where you are now a far 2nd choice all of a sudden.  Heavy on endurance.

Fiery Aura...damage output...you get an extra damage boost, a damage aura...and very good self healing.  May drop extremely fast if you are not carefull.

Electric Armor...2nd best resists...but that is all you have to survive...endurance bonus and recharge bonus to make you a tremendous offensive brute...not as offensive as the Fiery Aura, but near.

Dark Armor...the hardest set to play properly, never the best at anything particuliar, but extremely interesting.

Willpower...the first auto power is worth 4 powers from the Invul set...and all your other powers are good...this set is extremely potent.  Huge regen, decent resist, accuracy...amazing for soloing, and still okay as an off-melee in groups.

Energy armor...a joke...don't play that, seriously!

Energy Melee...heavy single target damage + stun.

Electric Melee & Stone Melee...AoE damages (Elect especially) with lower amounts...and status effect to help you tank.

Fiery Melee...bring on the damage...especially with fiery aura to back it up.

Dark Melee...an interesting, yet challenging choice...

Super Strenght...the most comon choice, all other templates where developped with that one in mind, as the middle course.

....That would merely get me started....the topic would need a lot of developpment from here...we are merely getting started.

*: With 40 Fury, you are on par with a tanker alright, if both are unbuffed...but as the buff is based on your basic stats, aka prior FURY, the more buffs kick in, the more FURY you need to compensate...eventually, in a big group, no amount of FURY can compensate what the buffs give in extra to a tanker...

End of the consideration, review or whatever.

Obviously this is such an incredibly flawed core game design issue that there is no conceivable hope of it ever being fixed or improved, ever. We all know that editing loot tables is such an amazingly complex and technologically demanding process that a game company such as Mythic, which is well known for completely ignoring their players or the game itself after its released, will never, ever embark on such a massive undertaking.

/sarcasm off, none of the above is true, obviously

..and besides you are referring only to the non-PQ, non-quest PvE group content which is a very minor part of the game. However if this is "end of consideration or discussion" or whatever for the game ever and ever then it is only your own loss.

And besides for the life of me I don't know why you expect that the game should give out the best rewards for one certain style of gameplay... that happens to be the dominant one in a certain other popular MMO? Hmm... it's either "clone" or "not clone enough." At the same time it is "nothing new" but somehow the old principles do not hold true anymore.. which is supposed to be bad as well. Imo the critics should make up their minds.

Yelling "WoW clone" and then in the same paragraph griping that something is bad because it is different from WoW makes no sense whatsoever. (I'm not refering to the quote above, just making a general observation on the flawed approach many habitual WAR critics take, either directly or by clear implication.)

You are obviously answering to someone else than me, or to yourself.

As to editing loot tables afterward, I know better than to hope for those.  The commitment is not there toward PvE soloing/grouping, I won't play the game.  You seem more affected than me by this situation.

Take a step back pal.

See; MMORPG.com evolves or devolves with time.  I honestly miss the time where En1gma was a moderator, Malkavian was tired of me, Kunou was trying to look cool...and Paratrooper was aiming for mere attention!  :)

But times change.  Some peoples will say the website is better, and perhaps they have serious points about it.  But to me, it is a shadow of what it used to be.  Admin was coming a lot around back then, and he wasn't afraid to share his thoughts.

Now, it is more PR...back then, I would never have receive even a hint of a warning.  They where cool and able to use their brains for the greater good.  But as it grows, they have to settle down specific rules, and you can't cross them even if you, are harmless while crossing them.  When it was the size of a family, if the Anofalye go out in the open where I wasn't supposed to be, but they all understood I was harmless, they would laugh at me, no warning.  Today I do the same, I will get a warning and possibly a ban...and it may even pain the moderator which has to deal with this, especially if I open my big yap and get the attention of more mods.

Rules are meant to be followed, by everyone.  If you have superior staff, you could adjust and make exceptions which are well worth it, but it require time and efforts...which is something their staff has a smaller supply than ever.  See, a teacher with 10 students may allow a few kids to cheat on some security rules, because he knows he can trust these 2 or 3 kids and they will be safe and okay...but a teacher with 200 kids has to apply the rules rigidly.

PS: Speaking of which, I stumble where I wasn't supposed to yesterday, as President Sarkozy was in Québec city...I have no idea how this happen, but I found myself, alone, no other civilians around, dozens of cops all around, ignoring me, and the President passes me by a meter or 2.  This could be used as another example, you have to remove everyone from such an area.  But since I am a local here and some folks prolly recognize me, they prolly just told their staff to let me wander, either to be kind with me, or to give a more lively feeling for the visitor...or a little of both.

Another Holy War --- Blind Guardian

I am god
the only one
I will bring back
freedom to your heart
you won't believe
that blind can see
noone else before me ever knew
the way to paradise
for another bloody crime
I shall return

I am your light on through the night

Ref.:
Why am I born
will I fail to rise again
another crucifixion for
another holy war
can't stop what's going on
(repeat)

Sooner or later you must understand
my words bring freedom
and rescue for man
what else,
to call me your Messiah
oh, I wish there could be another way
cross and nails are already prepared
my sell out
waits till I'm crucified
I will die before my vision ends

Ref.

Wait for the dawn
to take me away
what will be if I fail
another golden calve
never, never ending
pain and agony
hit me, nail me make me god

Ref

PS: The words, the lyrics, the thematic is extremely appealing when you are heartbroken, I figure many Crusaders where in facts guys turn off by the girls they love.  Which also explain easily the lack of compassion and total cruelty, as they where, hurt themselves.

Is Racing a sport?

Either on foots, in water, on bycicles, with cars...

Is Golf a sport, and did it offer competition?

Is Baseball some kind of hybrid, between a sport and a non-sport?

Is competition all which make a MMORPG to you?  Or isnt COOPERATION important?  And to what extand?  Do you need a 40 men raid to get the cooperation level you want, or isnt developping the 6 men group to it full extand better, as you can go more indeeph...

If you are either a SOLOER or a GROUPER, I would say City of Heroes/Villains, without any hesitation (sidekick, XP curve, intuitive, speed, leveling, customisation of powers, customisation of look, uberness...).

If you are a tradeskiller, I would guess, maybe Horizons, maybe EQ2, maybe Saga of Ryzom...

If you are a raider, pick any, they are all offering you much, raid-wise.

I dunno, this is a complex question.

I am totally a PvE player myself, I see no interest whatsoever in PvP and I did discard AoC without trying it.

That's been said, I can look and try to understand, from outside the game, what is "wrong".  PvE players is an oxymoron, you have at least 5 or 6 differents types of "PvE players.  You will not please each and every type.

It was my understanding that AoC has a heavy focus on PvP/RvR...and the only way to avoid that was to Raid in PvE.  Basically, this crude simplification would make AoC, WoW, EQ2, EQ, DAoC and WAR extremely similar, in facts, AoC offer more choices than some other games which force you to either Raid or PvP or RvR; if my understanding of AoC is right.  However, these players which enjoy raiding or RvR or PvP, they are spoiled, each and every MMO cater to some of them.

In PvE, let's take the most simplist type of player...a soloer.  Granted, we are playing in MMOs and it is normal that a game doesn't cater totally to them...or is it?  Anyway, I am not really a soloer myself, so I am kinda detached here...but the point is, this soloer, why would he stick to AoC instead of WoW or WAR?  He is gonna be screwed anyway in any game!

In PvE, you also have groupers, now these players are usually award a 2nd seat in most games; yet a MMO such as CoX will grant them the front seat, which is probably why a game as shallow as CoX is soo enjoyable, it is/was full of groupers.  These groupers don't have many options, they are either subpar in most MMOs, yet not completely weak...or they play CoX.  For me, it was a no brainer, really...even if I never like the spandex and superheroes!

In  PvE you also have socialisers...now these players...I don't think they have much of a gameplay for them anyway...and I dunno if they really care about it.  They will do anything to be part of the community.  I won't say anymore on them.  You also have tradeskillers, raiders and many other.

Now my point is, AoC caters either to raiders (which most MMOs already do) or to RvRers/PvPers (which again most MMOs do).  The game althought nice was apparently not bringing anything to outclass the competition, so it shrink on itself.

Blame it on PvE?  Well, you have a point, but your point is more global than that.  They fail to grab a player base, aka a market, aka a niche....just as Vanguard did fail.  Been a better PvE game COULD have been the solution, yet it wasn't necessarily the path they have to take, especially with a subject such as...CONAN...I find it hilarious to think of an expansion name...Conan the Librarian, Conan the bottanist, Conan the baker...

Maybe...maybe not.

I wouldn't play any game which try to make me raid, PvP or RvR.  The less pleasant the game, the less likely I am to pay much.

I don't feel any title on the left is currently worth $5 for the enjoyment they would bring me, but if I would feel otherwise, I would pay.

I can't speak for other.  But as a Warhammer fan and knowing many Warhammers fans...I don't play the game.

And as far as I can say, among my friends, all those who are playing WAR aren't Warhammer fans.  Yet, I didn't make an extansive survey about that, or really care.  Warhammer fans are all considering the game however.  I assume they would entrust the opinion of their friends who play MMOs, especially if they are Warhammer fans as well, and I can't say I speak much of it, and the few times I did, it was to say that I wouldn't play this game.

Anyway, I wish them good luck, I am just too bored to even care anymore about this game.  Yet, I somehow come to the forums today to spend time.
