The Ganking as its being called is an easy fix and im frankly surprised it hasnt already been put into place by Funcom unless they have no plans to address this issue and others I see related to PVP in AOC's current state.

1. When you spawn after a PVP death you should be immune to attacks for a short period of time. e.g. 5 mins of nothing can hurt you and you cannot hurt anything else.

That will fix spawn camping real quick.

2. Unique kills in a given time frame. e.g. I kill Noob1  and gain x# pvp xp. If I kill Noob1 again in less than 30mins I get no xp. Cause its not a unique kill till the time elaspes, After 30 mins the timer starts for how long noob1 is alive it takes 1hr for noob1 to be worth full xp again to predator1 who killed him in that last hour. This is only used for unique kills therefore a different predator2 can kill noob1 within that time fram after the 5 min timer for normal pvp xp. However the timers for predator 1 and 2 are still in place until they expire from original kill time. so on and so on.

This will prevent exploitation which will happen in  its current state in order for those to gain fast pvp xp. e.g. 2 accounts killing each others alts back to back to gain pvp xp with no risk.

3. Also for Noob1 if he is killed by predator 1 within the time frame his xp loss is scaled and relavent to the xp gained by his predator e.g. Predator1 spawn camps noob1 so predator1 is getting no xp thus resulting in no xp death loss for noob1. Also there needs to be an added optional spawn point in the 20 intro cities so that noob1 doesn't have his gameplay experience destroyed because billy_no_friends assasin who stole his mommys credit card and thinks this is funny watching this guy spawn then die, spawn then die, spawn then die over and over... hahahah right
its real funny till its you getting camped.

Just a few suggestions. Kinda think they might have put something like this in place from the get go if things were thought thru clearly. Since none of the closed beta/ AoC gurus havnt mentioned it and ive heard nothing from Funcom about it, leads me to believe its not gonna happen till after release if at all.

Correct me if im wrong. I try to assume things I don't know about. These are just my 2 shiny copper plated zinc slags.

#$#% Disclaimer #$#$

I am not posting this because I was victim to any way shape or form of ganking, camping or any other type of behaviour that would make me whiney. It just makes sense

Its so interesting to see how how these people think their time is worth after they have wasted it away grinding content.

Ok I'm done. And for those wondering what my point to all this is... that should be evident. If not then the wool is too thick over your eyes.

It's ok to voice your concerns and if the situations change for you to resend your complaints. I commend you for your moral conscience and hope you enjoy playing AoC for as long as you wish.

On the other hand....

Check this out ...  it made me think of the way I hoped AoC combat would be.

Warning All Fanbois - I didn't assume combat would be this way based on anything anyone told me on any forums or thru any dev chats, at the grocery store produce counter or a gaming store...... It was just in my head.  Maybe im on to something here.  a Real DC comics MMORPG with Real fighting. You know the real kind like where I use a noob stick

  • All raids take place at LvL 80, because of the effort it takes to organise.
  • People would out level raid structuce if they were added earlier on in the game.
  • All raids will be 24 man groups (4 full groups)
  • All raids are in Instanced Dungeons
  • At game launch there will be 8 Raid Dungeons for launch, May 20th
  • There will be 19 major Raid encounters (one boss or many bosses)
  • Raids are divided into 3 tiers ( 3 different levels of difficulty)
  • Progressive system - need to do the easier ones to get to the harder ones
  • Currently set to one member in the Raid can progress the group along (subject to change)
  • There will be safe zones
  • Lots of mobs in Dungeons that Do Not respawn
  • They aim for it to be one Dungeon run straight thru and not time taken up fighting alot of respawns if you die
  • Once a week to finalize a Raid Dungeon, If you clear it out before a week it will remain empty till one week timer is up.
  • 2  to 2 1/2hrs playtime for each of them ( IF you know what you are doing!! )
  • Once everything is unlocked from the 8 raid dungeons leaving tier 3 stuff, there will be enough content to happily raid each week.
  • New people joining your group who are first time raiders will experience where you are up to, so if you have cleared a dungeon they will see this too, until it resets after a week.

Once again you are not forced to raid, this discussion has had DOZENS of threads here. ITs there to appeal to those that like it.

The dragon in my sig is a raid, I want to fight it! Dont care about gear.

I honestly can't blame you for being so Gung-Ho about Age of Conan considering ...

http://mmolab.com/2008/01/25/age-of-conan-instance-run-video

So, how was your trip to Norway?

Now let's be frank this has to skew your otherwise unbiased opinions greatly. I was wondering why I kept constantly seeing Acolyte guild banners in the sigs of all these people who were so quick to defend legitmate concerns with AoC.

I’m really disappointed with this bit of information.  IGN posted up an exclusive look at AoC’s PvP and Raiding yesterday.  In the article they talk about Raiding and PvP in the “end-game” or rather max level.  The first waves of disappointment came when I read this:

“If you want to get the best armor and weapons in Age of Conan, you’re going to have to raid, something you can’t actually engage in until you hit level 80. There’ll still be dungeons that players can band together and delve into before the cap, but for large-scale, 24-player encounters against enormous bosses that require highly coordinated attack patterns to defeat, you’ll have to wait until the end game.”

*sigh*  So basically it’s another treadmill of raid to get gear to raid to get better gear to raid to get gear.  I thought we left that crap behind in World of Warcraft?  I’m tired of having to spend hours every night raiding dungeons for a chance at loot.  I’m tired of being forced to find 23 other players to even have a chance at getting good items or seeing epic encounters.  It gets worse.  You would think that perhaps maybe PvPing would be an alternative.  Well it is, but not only does it sound incredibly difficult but the gear that you can get from PvP isn’t even better than the PvE gear and only the best PvPers are every going to see it.  Here is how hardcore their system sounds:

“It’s also possible to lose experience when killed. According to game director Gaute Godager, this won’t drop you from one level to another, but it is possible for your progress to be brought all the way down to zero for your level if you’re constantly getting killed. To further add to this mechanic’s hardcore nature, you only gain a fraction (somewhere between one half and one third) of the experience for a kill compared to the amount lost for a death. Yikes.

The whole point of the system is for only the most skilled players to rise to the top, instead of having everyone who put in enough time eventually get to the highest PvP level. Once you do get high enough, special equipment unlocks and becomes available for purchase, and the gear is supposed to be extremely powerful. It’ll be comparable to raid gear, though its statistical bonuses will benefit PvP play more than PvE. According to Gaute, raid gear will be more accessible than the high-level PvP gear.”    Read the rest here

Seems all I see on these forums are 1 line posts with a gigantic Acolyte signature. It's obvious u guys are using a different client since youre all in closed beta so how is your opinion relevant to a post regarding someones experience with a different client?

Please Enlightment me of mighty Acolytes. Although this might require more than one incomplete sentence.

I can run AoC just fine for the most part. I cannot optimize my graphics though cause hitting esc or F10 cause the client to crash. Fine for me is 60fps avg some lows in tavern fights that make me slide and make pvp with only a few people unbearable. Unfortunately I won't be playing in its current state.

Pvp is a big nono for me.

Ya the biggest problem with Real time combat in an mmo is the "real time part" is all relative to how fast your computer is. AoC is gonna be an I "pwn joo noobs" game where those with a fast rig will dominate thus creating an unsatisfactory environment for those with lesser rigs. This is the same paradox that caused the downfall of Planetside.

I'm glad someone with real experience with AoC has stated it like is it...  Real Time attacking and defense (or Real time Combat)

Real Time Combat is tricky in an MMO environment due to the inherent problems due to differences in systems, connection speed and net-code.

As with FPS games where that small group always seems to dominate whether it be faster rig or running scripts. This brings to mind another one of my old favorites. Planetside

Real time combat is quite a gamble in an mmo

lets just hope Funcom has done their homework

They offered seemless open worlds for pixels.

If this is going to be accepted by the players it is the end of open world RPG as we know it.

I hope for the sake of the Genre this doens't come to fruition

Personally having only played in the Open Beta at this point I cannot see past level 13. But if what you say has merit we should all be worried. Massively Multi Player Online to me is Open world. You can Define RPG in alot of ways but instanced solo play or Guild wars type of mini-games isn't very massive to me. This is where I feel DDO failed miserably.  But thats just me personally, everyone has their own flavor.

Enjoy PVP week =)

Rpg's are the base for all MMORPG's and AoC is more MMORPG that the WoW ever gonna be.

This is as close to oblivion as any game ever had come!

It see how you can see a comparison here to Oblivion. I too felt that way many times when completing Destiny quests. However that wasnt a possitive for me since I'm not a fan of that 1st person style of RPG it was more action adventure

Ok lets looks at some Wiki definitions for comparison

"A role-playing game (RPG) is a type of game in which the participants assume the roles of characters and collaboratively create stories. Participants determine the actions of their characters based on their characterization, and the actions succeed or fail according to a system of rules and guidelines. Within the rules, they may improvise freely; their choices shape the direction and outcome of the games.

"The actions succeed or fail according to a system of rules and guidelines"

Does this statement ring true in AoC or does the Twitch aspect rule whether or not you succeed for fail?

Another Wiki snipet

" Twitch gameplay keeps players actively engaged with quick feedback to their actions, as opposed to turn-based gaming that involves waiting for the outcome of a chosen course of action. Twitch can be used to expand tactical options and play, test skill in various areas (usually reflexive responses) and generally add difficulty (relating to the intensity of "twitching" required). "

Turn-based gaming is used to define Twitch gameplay as it's opposite. To go further stating it generally adds difficulty.  Thats good right?

Let's go back and rehash the comparison's to Oblivion which make a ton of sense when you consider this game has always been slated for cross-platform gameplay on the PC and XBOX 360.

Do you want to play your $70 game + $19 /month PC MMORPG with a 12 yr old on his Console? Its pure speculation at this point and prolly a year away before we might see this but it is likely they will be on the same servers.

Funny so many feel its a real RPG, when Funcom THEMTHELVES time and again said it as more an Online Counterstike-like game. Its more what people WANT to believe, heh.

Could you give me a link to where they said this.

They said things like this in Dev vids and the Hyborian insider but every time it was spoken, they were refering to the combat system, not the RPG content of Tortage and  all the other pve/pvp/crafting/solo/group play content, from login on.

@ OP

It's neither and it's a blend of both, at the same time.

It's not a classic MMORPG, due only to the combat system, and not a true MMOFPS(eventhough, there's the feel of twich'er game),  there's still classic MMORPG calculations running in the background determining hits/misses/damage and heal amounts based on your stats and feats.

I love this answer. I just hope enough people like myself that are not interested in PVP can get past the counter-strike meets Everquest style of combat system. If this can be overcome it might just stand a chance of toppling Wow off its high horse.

Thanks for all who participated in this Poll

Why not just watch the combat training video or the other youtube videos that show you the differences?

Because the combat video only shows what they want you to see. Its another piece of  game hype from funCON. It doesnt show you that while you can dbl tap to dodge the npc doenst care and still hits you. hahaha its laughable when you actually play the game and understand that as much as funcon love the conan lore they have designed an mmorpg around a combat system that focuses on pvp. I'll go out on a limb and state that this will turn into a focused pvp game very shortly after lauch thus loosing a majority of their potential market share. That's not a problem for those that want pvp but it will be boring fighting the same 20 assasins and necros over and over again

You've obviously never played a Tempest of Set or Herald of Xotli.

Even the priest (healing classes) can kick some major ass in this game. It's not at all a cookie cutter class or FotM build trumps all type of game.

Take WoW for instance:

Why are there so many Hunters, Warlocks, Wars, and Rogues? Because those classes have builds that make it very easy to PvP with. These classes are some what to greatly over-powered. It'll be even worse when Death Knights are released. DKs will have the ability to shorten the global cool down on their abilities and spells. Granted they can only have a certain amount of runes in their place (kind of like the crystals in a lightsaber in SWG), but by giving them the ability to use skills and spells faster than any other class in the game trivializes the paper, rock, scissor dynamic that WoW is supposed to designed around.

I don't understand why the devs set it up this way because DKs will be pretty much dominant to all spell casting classes. Why is this absurd? The spell casting classes are all ready playing second fiddle to the melee classes, so this just exacerbates the issues between melee and catser classes and does nothing to even the playing field.

How is AoC different? I'm not sure that it is. PvE-wise, I've had a much eaiser time playing a caster. It's not as much fun playing a caster because they can pretty much cast 2 direct damage spells and end a fight, where as a melee combatant gets to get in and do some combos and finesse they enemy to death.

I'm very curious to see how it pans out with the addition of spell weaving and itemization. I guess only time will tell though.

You are correct in assuming I didn't play those 2 classes you listed. If I'm correct they are casters my viewpoint is that of the system in its current state in melee combat situations. Spellweaving is a unicorn at this point. we hear about it yet noone has seen it. This makes casters in AoC very much like casters in other mmorpgs if im correct in that assumption. please correct me if im wrong.

As for Xaldrius lets make it clear I do not play wow and have not played it since I tested it in closed/open beta just like AoC and many games before it. I can assure you this just as I predicted WoW would dominate the market share like they did. I am here to give my opinion like it or not. Age of Conan will not hold more than100k subs longer than 6 months unless they give away subscriptions to starving children in africa in exchange for their conversion to the christian faith, kinda like how we give em food now. Apparently someone who got ordained by a free online ministry http://www.ulc.net/  feels the need to call his elders kid, to each his own. I know where my place is in this world and it is with your kind beneath my soles.

Ok back on topic perhaps my years of playing MMORPGS and not enough FPS games has left me ... used to or possibly trained to expect a certain type of gameplay that simply doenst exist here. I'm perfectly ok with that, since im certain I won't be missed. As for all those  without labeling anyone inappropriately this is gonna be the majority of AoC playerbase with their scripts like I saw tonight on the Global chat.  This is what im talking about  ...   http://www.purepwnage.com/episodes/s1/6/    Well its already happening is it not??  I guess it won't take time to tell it's already happening.

I guess the most important thing here to consider long and hard is... Is it truly realistic to think you can combine a Role playing game which has its roots in turn-base dice with a FPS style twitch reaction based game and keep the company in the black profit wise. For those that are unaware AoC is a dual design for both PC and Xbox 360. On the same server mind you.  oh boy that sounds like a ton of fun.....

Honestly my opinion is no and I will explain my reasons why. First, when it comes to twitch games (I will make it clear from the get-go im not disillusioned into thinking i am a pwner of noobs, although we all wanna think we are "deathstalker666" most of us are not) the field of play is generally leveled to a certain extent by game design a term called balance. However in MMORPGS for those who weren't born last week understand that balance is an illusion. MMORPG balance is rock, paper, scissor for the most part and FPS is same armor/health mostly similar weapons doin similar dps. Adding twitch skills to rock, paper, scissors doens't work and never will unless you force everone to wear the same armor, weapons and use only certain skills.

Oh and since the majority of MMORPG players don't PVP and AoC's combat system overall is geared along a PVP mindset how about take out the grinding and just let me chose my level when I chose my haircolor at character creation. Sounds like a plan to me. Since the actual gameplay will be like Gears of war meets Starcraft II why make me grind thru 50 some levels before I can get to pwnin m3 sum noobs.

Just my 2cnts

Now go in peace...
