Ok, xdarc. From someone who actually played Planetside from beta and will resub every once and awhile to see old friends who will never leave. Lemme give you a little insight into why the type of game you might deem worthy of the MMOFPS genre title will most always fail.

#1 As much as the game designers might want to target FPS fans they will not entirely do so. Mainly cause FPSers don't like monthly subs       but that what it takes to keep a mmo operating. Thats the reason why PS had a huge initial churn rate see #2 and #3 these add to the       reason Churn was so high.

#2 FPSers are spoiled by cheats, MMOs generally wont allow for this type of behavior to flourish.

#3 FPSers also like network performance to be optimal for their pwnage. This just doesnt work well with thousands on the same server           playing in a persistant world, another big reason for PS's failure.

With that being stated lets look back at what your original gripe was. That games are mislabeling the Genre title in order to put themselves in a less saturated genre like the mmofps and this is the fault of who? mmorpg companies...

I enjoyed/enjoy playing planetside from time to time. I also play on occasion EQ2, WOW, and now mostly LOTRO. I keep my FPS to my 360 where the future of FPS is heading since the days of SOCOM.

However I've not given up just yet, anytime I see a new game boasting mmofps game play I will give it a shot to see how it measures up. Unfortunately for the reasons I have stated its not going to be anytime soon.

Peace out

I am honestly getting very tired of trolls and flamers who come to the LOTRO forums here just to act shocked that a mmorpg based on LOTR lore that doesn't require a NSA server to run and is virtually bug-free is ranked #1.

Come on look at the competition out there...

WoW - been there done that got the shirt. Enjoyed wow when it came out because there wasn't much else in that genre that I cared for. Hammered my way to 60 before the increase in cap. PVP was the best -  pre BG. Got bored waiting to group for end game content...Current state of the game is pathetic, full of  leet dudes and pwnrz.

The mmorpg genre with regards to fantasy settings has a growing and widening fan base. There are quite a few older more mature gamers that are tired of being forced to turn /ooc off because of all the kiddies.

This fan base will prop lotro up on its shoulder and keep it alive for along time to come. So to all you kiddies that don't like tolken lore, Please Go back to you're precious Barrens chat and Leeroy Jenkens style antics. We don't want you in our community
