"which is superior" I lol'd. DX10 is by no means superior. I even modded BioShock using DX9 and it still looked nearly as good as DX10. I think DX10 so far only increases the shadow and particle quality at long ranges, which you wont even notice when in the heat of battle.

DX10 is just another thing to push people to Vista. If you look at videos of Crysis for example showing DX9 and DX10 you can see a difference... now only if they didn't rig DX9 to look bad.

I myself changed 5 settings with DX9 and it looked near EXACT as DX10 on Vista but with better FPS it seems.

I aint defending vista as like most MMo's(seems fitting to use this term here) it was released before it was ready but it is for sure alot more steady now and would recommend it to ppl you have the system to back it up and the know how to get the fix's.

SP1 increased performance by 2 fps on Crysis and 5 on FEAR.

SP1 also made audio transfers and video transfer 1/3 longer than pre-SP1.

Nope, didnt want the early access. Honestly, in my experience with multiple MMORPGs. The first week is usually slow and frustrating. Server issues, unexpected bugs, the first wave of players vying for the same resources. Even with early access these can be an issue ..to be yet repeated again on the main release date. I say May 27th for me.  I want the population to disperse a bit before I go in

Tortage is instanced so it wont be to bad at all and after the level 20 barrier the big zones have plenty to offer so I can only for see some bugs which still need to be worked out.

Anyway toms can always help you, here is their "most bang for buck" list for may(sorted by $):

http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/graphics-card,1923.html

thanks for the link. money is not an object. however, i refuse to buy another 'bleeding edge' vid card ie. the $5-600 ones.

i would think the 9000 series would be 'better' than the 8800 series? or at least perform better in games...

thanks for the input fellas, keep it coming pls.

should i go for the 8800 or a newer 9600, 9600 gt gts gtx?

$300 would be the max, but again im looking for performance to the dollar.

2 8800GT for about $330 after couple rebates. 8800GT does better than the 9600. 8800GTS 512 (G92) is not worth the extra $100 for maybe a 10 FPS increase.

Make sure when upgrading RAM that it has the same chips in them or else you're looking at possible problems and maybe worse timings. Best sell off the old RAM and buy a new 4gb kit (Mushkin 5-4-4-12 800Mhz are amazingly good).

Yeah that was a interesting way of doing things. Not sure if its limited to 100 people though.

OB I was seeing upward of 200-300 people in cities but no idea if they implemented that instancing system.

That is indeed Huge. World of Warcraft the maximum I have experienced is about 150 people in Orgrimmar. And that was in a very crowded day.

People complaining about instancing need to realize that even if Funcom decided to remove it. Some zones would be incredibly crowded. It need to be done for a better experience.

I've been to Disney Land in Paris a few months ago. And the waiting times literally killed it for me. Crowded area's don't necessarily make for a better experience.

Thats about right. Tortage WILL be instanced so EVERYONE can have enjoyable time and after that I think the limit gets moved up. 200 people in Tarantia was awesome and moving into the real zones I was seeing about 100 people. Me and my old WoW guild made characters on the same server and all (90~) of us had a blast rampaging and doing leveling all in 1 zone (Something Valley? Cimmerian place. Might I add that group questing is NOTHING like WoW in AoC, its actually worth grouping to quest and grind because no XP loss!

I heard from a very reliable source, someone who was in CB for awhile now, that the largest zones in AOC if anyone is looking for a comparison, is about 1/4th the size of the Barrens in WOW. Add in all the loading screens and you can figure what type of closed in boxed world Hyboria really is. FC screwd up. They made a game that has the best graphics to date, but at the cost of a open,  loading screen and instanced world.

I'll challenge the fact your source has not even played AoC. Every zone I have been in has been the size of Barrens and bigger.

Oh and if you are saying WAR wont be instanced like AoC, then look at the texture size and quality and the different engines. WAR's Textures are comparable to WoWs and I can't comment on the engine but I doubt it will be big. I'm not putting down WAR as I can imagine it will be an awesome game but it can't be compared to AoC.

If you don't like instancing then just don't play AoC. Sick of hearing complaints. I care very little about it and enjoy the lore and so far the games design around classes.

Go play WoW until WAR is out kthxbai.

I'm finding it irritating that people can't think beyond themselves and people speak about coding and programming like they know how to make an MMO at this scale. Call me a fanboi but me and my cousin make small little mini-games and we could never achieve something like this without understanding so much about it. But knowing a little bit about coding, its not about how well it is coded but how much the game uses the end-user system.

For the sake of argument I'm going to use WoW for example of non instanced. WoW has low resolution textures and a far smaller game engine which can be loaded into 1gb-2gb of RAM. AoCs game-engine is almost the size of WoW itself.

"Games exist that can do this no problem it just requires , decent design and good programming. SImple"

Yes. In AoC's case this is not true. Its the sheer size of the game which holds it back from mainstream computers. Even computer gaming enthusiast couldn't load the whole game into RAM. I know fact that I'll spend 5-10 seconds loading a zone than pay $600 for 10GBs of RAM which will be next to useless except for AoC.

Funcom didn't "fuck" up, they actually reduced the loading times by like 5x. Maybe you should also look into buying a faster harddrive a 7200 rpm or 10,000 rpm would make the games loading screens be almost instant.

Now there is some excitement, they reduced the load times by 5x....but there are still massive load times that shouldn't exist in an MMO.  ...and FYI I am running a 7200, and a 10,000 for my games and the loading still was horrible!  Funcom did fuck up as the technology they're using blows.

Not one game that has loading gives me any trouble besides AoC!  Well besides Witcher and that games loading really sucks!

So come on whats ur next debate gonna be about!  Its a fact that history repeats itself and Funcom is holding to that as everything else in this crazy world does!

Well unless you have a horrible setup going then load times shouldn't be to bad for the fact that they hardly happen after level 20 (I leveled to 29 in OB). Also a game of this scale would be beyond mainstream computer demands if it were not Instanced. If AoC was like WoW and had no instancing then you would require 10 gigs of RAM.

Each zone I ran to had a hefty 1.5-3GB of RAM used and that was only in Lv25-30 zones. Can't wait to see how massive the other ones are!

I'll let you know tomorrow how it runs and if its laggy (which I doubt since FunCom has a nifty way of stopping it)

You best not be loading the games from the external unless its e-SATA

There is actually a PCI board that has 12 RAM slots which is used for flash storage. There is a video with windows xp loading in 2 seconds and loading every .jpg the OS has in 1 second (thats a couple thousand).
