honestly, i wish this wasn't true. I liked the way it was going to be when the old studio had the rights. Where everyone is a member of the crew, not just a captain of a ship. I was looking forward to the roleplay of it, but I guess that has gone by the wayside.

Hopefully that'll change in the future, but until then I don't see myself buying this game.

Emmert and Zinkievich have not ruled out the possibility of multi-crewed ships. They have stated that they won't be there for launch but it is something that they are seriously discussing and may be put in at some later date. I personally think the game will be good either way and will still provide much in the way of role playing and interaction with others regularly. I never was a big fan of PE's vision for Trek. The multi-crew part was probably the only redeeming quality their version had. The rest of it sounded like it was going to blow chunks seriously. I for one am so much happier that a real development studio with a decent track record has this IP now. This game went from a 10% chance of a successful Star Trek MMO under PE to about a 90% chance of success the day Cryptic took over.

I hate most everything Emmert did to CoH, starting with the ham-fisted ED. I don't like him, nor do I trust him.

Though I'm a huge trek fan, this game I'll pass on given the evryone is a Captain thing + Emmert anywhere near it.

I hope to see a decent single-player trek game eventually. God I'd love to see one in the mold of Oblivion's freedom.

Read the download instructions on the board. You have to read it carefully, create the folders as they instruct, and make sure to DL the parts as instructed. It's not as easy as most beta clients, but do 1/2 hour of reading the beta board, you'll find it.

Where would obee one look to log in to read /Chuckles harder.....

If you're that lost that you can't find the board with the email, I can't help you. Good luck.

Too many wanna be internet cops around here. lol   Yes you can say that you made it in beta, but only if you did not make it into beta. That does not break the NDA. But beyond that its zip lips or you will get ganked

This argument is ridiculous. Again, for the millionth time, anyone can go to the contest page and see 500 people that made it into beta. You don't even have to be a member of MMORPG to view it. Can we stop now with this idiotic idea that saying you are in beta is a violation of NDA?

Pisses me off seeing the NDA wanna-be enforcers spewing this lie over and over again.

I imagine there are community members who would get first crack at beta before us contest winners here. Just a guess though.

You fellow beta winners think we'll get the client download on the 15th or earlier?

That thread made me lol.

The community manager owned the OP in 3 words.

Actually, the OP was excitedly posting about the release date. The CM pwned the guy who said 80% chance of delay.

Ah, yeah. That's what I meant. ^^

As long as we have confirmation of the date, w00t!

I really hope they manage to stick to this date but the cynic in me just knows they're going to push it back. The newsletter mentioned 'before the end of October' but no specific date.

My email specifically said the 15th.

18 months of closed beta?  If you've experienced that It's a sad thing.  They're already using an established engine(unreal) so half the battle is over.  And they have indeed been working on this for over 2 years, but the public beta process should never be longer than about 6 months.  My timeline stands.  Should be around an April or May open beta.

Any delay beyond that would simply be for market timing.

This game has been in development for 2 years and just finished it's alpha stage which means very little has been tested or implemented. It basically means they have their servers working and a few zones up and ready to stress mechanics. I've been in many many beta's.. many of those for well over a year. Closed beta usually lasts 12-18 months.

If you expect this game to be released next year. You will be disappointed. The average development time for a MMORPG from start to release is 4 years.

4 YEARS , If that's the case, What the hell is the deal with Darkfall , Sorry Darkfall fan's I just had to throw that in.

But i agree, its gonna be a long road in beta testing before this game see's the light of day.

I love being in the early beta then you get to be in the ground floor and participate as it grows. Charactor wipes, CTD's falling through the world, bugs and massive exploits to find...yeah.

Wish I could get paid to beta test games *sigh*.

The Closed beta start is readily available anywhere on the net. So where does NDA come into this?

When the actual Closed Beta starts, it's basically more towards not spreadin out the actual game, footage/screenshots. Just be sure to stay quiet and not make a fuzz after the Beta has started because then... I have no clue what will be your consequences.

This is all a guess... because I really have no clue, i'm just giving my opinion.

You're right. I have beta'd enough games to know the limits. Once it starts we testers can't give any info.

Funny because in every game, there are people who get in beta, hate the game and never plan on playing it, so they blab on sites like this anyway. Info always gets leaked.

Hmmm...Short vid, but interesting. I didn't notice a targeting crosshair. Graphics look pretty alright though.

Can't wait till the 15th to try it out.

Game won't die, but it takes years for a game or company to recover from the bad taste in gamers mouths left by the terrible first 3-4 months.

And I mean terrible, in every aspect FC just did a very very bad job.

Im not a huge fan of the IP, but i was invited to play for a stress test recently. and OMFG does this game look incredible.

I cant believe it... it makes me want to go out and purchase the first season of SG and watch them.

Things that stuck out in my mind: Diversity of NPCs, the combat system, the graphics, the quests are actually worth reading, character customization is interesting, classes.. omg A+++ very similar to SWG pre CU.

Just wow. (i mean wow not WoW =P)

I look forward to playing this game. I doubt it will let you down like WAR did for me.

Without breaking NDA..did you find it to be a tank-n-spank? As in, tank, healer, nuker type play? Did you play any end game?
