Overall, I see the card game as a good idea.  Of course I now longer play SWG, however, this card game made me interested in considering playing.  I know better than to actually sign up for another subscription, but atleast it made me consider it.  I think they are doing anything possible to maintain some decent sub numbers and to keep cashing in while they can.  They know they only have a few years of this gravy train left before the game is utterly unplayable.  I'm sure players who were considering quiting now have a reason to stay and explore the new card game, therefore it is a good decision by SOE.

I believe Darkfall is in a real stage of development, but to say that it's on its way out the door is a little bit of an exaggeration.  They haven't even accepted beta testers yet.  Even after they accept some testers and go through the tedious beta stages the game won't be on its way out the door.  It will take some time to ensure that the game is ready for release and can actually function without crashing.

As far as seeing that 2008 release on MMORPG.com, well that is a joke.  There is not a chance in hell this game will be out this year.  I wish it was true, but there is no way.  I hope I can eat my words later this year, but I don't see it happening:)

You will look like a much better employee with a 4 year degree from a real university more so than one of those crap colleges seen on late night telivision.  I'd recommend computer science with a minor in business if possible.  While you are there try like hell to intern at a well known game design company and you should be a great future employee.  Good luck.

I remember how fun UO was because every server was actually different because players could put up houses anywhere outside of towns as long as they could fit that particular structure there.  However, this eventually turned into a mess with houses EVERYWHERE and it really took away from the environment.  I hope that DF allows large, medium, and small zones for player houses so that the land is still preserved.  Also, give enough space where people don't have to camp and wait for a house to decay just so they can place one lol, wow that was always a pain, given I did have like 5 houses in UO lol.

I loved being able to select different structures and build all my own furniture.  That type of control and freedom is just something that is not present in MMORPGs anymore.  Housing and crafting has to be solid, IMO, for this game to function well.  Nothing like having a house to store all your valuables and rares!  I'd like to see a video or something describing how housing will work, if in fact there even will be housing...which if there isn't let me know now so I can just go back to the WAR forums lol.

Nothing is better than a game where all gear can be crafted by actual players, with minor exceptions of course.  I can't wait to actually see how that goes.

As a former UO tamer and MMO gamer for many years I'd like to give you my advise how I see it regarding your question.  There is no current MMORPG with a pet system similar, not even close actually.  Perhaps Mortal Online or Darkfall Online will address this issue, but I honestly don't see that happening.  Unfortunately you may just have to find a new favorite type of character to play.

Very interesting poll.  I appreciate this one, you can gather from it that the older crowd seems to be gravitating towards Destro.  But all in all, it isn't as young of a crowd as I would suspect.  Of course if the ages could of been broken down a bit more that would be even more helpful, but I realize you are limited with space on these polls.  I feel there is a big difference between a 25 and 18 year old.  Nonethelss, thanks for the poll.

I've read a lot of crap posts on these forums, but this is by takes the cake.  It is not even trolling or flaming or anything like that, it has NO valid points or even resembles an opinion of someone who knows anything about MMORPGs, especially skill-based, sandbox styles.  And why it's on the WAR forums baffels me even more.

At no point in your rambling, incoherant speech did you even come close to adding anything useful to these forums.  We are all now dumber for having read it, may God have mercy on your soul.

Dated graphics and below average animation.  However, I don't care about these as much as I care about sandbox and skill based concepts.  The ships look fun, but bring about a ton of questions as to how things are going to work with ships if it is a sandbox, skill based game.  The game doesn't much story or lore in this video, but the fighting looks decent.

Bottomline, I'd be impressed if I saw this in 2006 or so, but it is not an impressive video for late 2008.  It is clear they have taken too much time in development.  However, as I said before, what the DFO community is hoping for are concepts not seen in current MMORPGs such as skill based, sandbox, house ownership, full loot, ect.  These concepts are what will make or break DFO.  If they sell out and start following the more cookie cutter method than with these graphics and animations will not hold up against the other cookie cutters such as WAR, AoC, LOTRO, ect.  The video does show a large open world though, which is something I have been craving.  I'm sick of being cramped!

These two games couldn't be farther apart.  Why would you make such a comparison to just incite flames.  You are such a troll!

This is often what I've said too.  They only save you a dollar a month.  To me that is just not enough of a savings for a higher commitment.  I typically do the 3 month committment though because that isn't that long.  However, I won't do anything more than that because too many factors can play in, I'd rather pay the extra one dollar a month lol.

Well with his distaste for RMT you better think twice before participating in RMT, that's for sure!  I'm sure they will be banning accounts left and right to preserve the integrity of WAR.

(in before the vaportrolls)

Very true.  You got to understand a lot of the kids that play MMOs, play on their parents dime.  And those are the same kids who would quit a game were they got ganked and looted, as was seen in UO.  UO was great because all your pride was in your character and your home, both of which could not be looted away from you.  You died you lost everything, but if you were a GM with a swords, well you can get a new sword and be bad ass with that one.  It was a cutting edge philosophy that I would of thought would rule the MMORPG market for the rest of time, but I was sadly mistaken.  Seems like the WoW generation and theme has taken over and all MMOs are just like one another now.

I just want a game where your pride comes with your characters hard earned, unique skills and house, not your loot you just got from the 8 hour raid boss.

It makes a lot of sense to me.  I think SWG has a pretty good idea here with the card game in terms of keeping subs.  I don't advocate SWG these days, but I have to applaud an innovative decision such as this.

I could definately see gambling being put into more MMOs as gold sinks for the economy.

Probably just keep reading more stuff about WAR and visiting WAR fansites.  I'll also be gaming on my Xbox 360 which is always good for less committed gaming.

Clearly we all have a difficult decision to make.  I plan on balancing my gaming time about 50/50 between the two heavy hitter MMORPGs.

I was wondering if anyone could clear up the schedule debate as to what the rest of the time till release will be looking like.  I was playing in CB last couple weeks, but now the servers are all down for us CE guys.  Will they come up before OB?  When will OB end and the head start program begin anyone know any of these answers?

Also, for those of us that pre-ordered the CE do we have to do anything extra to ensure our spot in the head start program or will it automatically understand that we are in it because we entered our CE beta code into the Beta Center?

Thanks in advance!

I'm pretty skeptical.  I'm sure that conversation took place, but it doesn't hold much water in these forums.  Because of so many lies that have already been told, we will need hard evidence of any such claim.  Stop wasting your time with these wish upon a star posts.  Besides this game has taken so long now that it is already outdated and I'll be looking forward to the next sandbox, skill-based MMORPG lol.

wow that really is a big big.............................load of crap...................

I'd have to agree, that is a load of crap lol.  Anyway, it is a very hard comparision to make even for those who have experienced CB because parts of the game have always been sectioned off.  I would estimate that the worlds are pretty close in size.  WAR does follow more of a guided path due to the tiers and loading between them.  However, the tiers in WAR have a lot of stuff going on so it is necessary.  I would have to say that WoW has more of a "worldly" feel, however, WAR has a lot more content and the world is constantly changing due to RvR battle.  I like how everything you do in WAR really effects the world, it is an empowering feeling.

So I would have to say WoW and WAR are pretty damn close in size and WoW has a more sandbox feel to it, but lets face it, NEITHER one are sandbox games so what difference does it make.  As far as claiming WAR is the largest world in MMOs, well that is VERY unlikely, but they are all close.
