You can explore vanguard, searching areas for what you need.  It isn't just "Go to x and beat up y to get z" type of thing.  There are several possible ways to get equipment, including asking a crarfter to make it for you, hunting for it yourself, becoming a crafter, etc.

So yeah, you can play different ...nothing is stopping you in vanguard.

I'll throw my 2 cents in:

Vanguard does have some amazing graphics.  However it does have some aweful graphics. There is this mix in the game; generally anything that isn't character related is good, stuff that is character related is bad.  Armor looks great but the characters the armor are on don't.

However: there is a revamped model set coming out soonish. I hear september..and they are showing them off at the Sony Fan Faire this august, so hopefully we'll get to see what they look like.

I love the world, I love how it is so vast and explorer friendly.  I love the classes, they are a mix of old faithful and unique classes.  All are done rather well in my opinion.  I like the community and I've had some fun times in the game.

Is it worth buying? I think so, just be aware there are still some issues.  IT is a good game to play but it isn't a perfect game.  People on this thread have seemed to either blast the game or hold it up as the second coming of MMO's.  The truth is somwhere inbetween; It is a great game with issues.

One o' the reasons the PVP server is a ghost town is because you roll a character...step out on your newbie legs..get to the point where you can be killed..then get ganked over and over and over and over again.

it does get rather annoying.

However I have resubbed, love the game.

If this is the incident I'm thinking of, I wasn't just there I was one of the main speakers. 

No skin off my nose though, I thought the person that was complaining just didn't want to accept any of the answers.  

It was an interesting conversation to say the least and I did say that the person would go off and complain about the community on some forum.

This is funny.. I just got the key for the stress teast for LOTR this weekend. I'll be honest with you: I haven't been looking forward to this game.  I was in the beta for D and D online and didn't care for that much at all; so I'm not sure the dev could do better with LOTR.
I'm loving vanguard though..outside of the fact I can't put my stuff in bags...grr..only thing that is irritating me.  I have a level 8 Lesser Giant Dread Knight on Thestra on the varking team PVP server.

I'm enjoying this game as well. I'm working up to seeing how it will be in the long run, but for the moment I'm enjoying it. It seems to be a lot less superficial then something like WoW and I hope it stays that way.

I'm looking forward to playing more.
