When I played EVE, they called me a carebear. I liked to trade, mine, build for my corp. They got my creations blown up and I just made more. I enjoyed it. How is that being a carebear? I MADE PVP HAPPEN. Without me or people like me, PVP wouldn't be possible.
PVP players often hate to admit it, but they need the PVE and Crafting type players. Most PVP players don't care though, and will drive decent players away. One of my friends was mining in a Hulk in .7 space (he came and joined a few of us to just mine and chat) and these two gankers showed up in cruisers during server lag and knocked him out. Sure, concord swept them, but it took 7 minutes for concord to get there. It's cowardly tactics like that that are making me look at all these PVP posts and hanging my head in shame. How can you all call yourselves true PVPers when all you do is abuse game mechanics and kill solo players in your huge pirate groups? "LULZ I AM SO LEET I KILLZ YOUR MINING SHIP LULZ" PVP without a reason isn't PVP, it's griefing. There is no challenge in killing newer players or miners, especially when you don't even give them a chance to pay their escape (like most pirates in EVE, who KoS and make off with shitty tier 1 gear and make little to no profit) |

I wish they'd drop the monthly fee in exchange for advertising, but heh, that'll never happen. I hope this money does infact go towards development costs though. At least if it doesn't, I can just turn the ads off. |

Caves could have been better utilized as a way to interrupt the typical lattice of bases. It sort of was used that way, but could have been better. Planetside truly died with BFRs, which removed much of the feel and thrill of the game. It turned into mechwarrior. Anyway, PS needs to go Free 2 Play to get the kind of population it needs now. A damn shame... I loved the game. |

I would love to see a better version of Planetside: better graphics, better physics, more varied vehicles, MORE PLAYERS (!), etc. I'll pay the $14.95... just give me a game better than Planetside (which will be tough, despite the suckage of the new updates), and we've got a deal. |

Though I personally couldn't care less about avatars, when I tried to get some of my IRL buddies to play EVE, they wouldn't, JUST BECAUSE there were no avatars. This is not a small problem. Many people feel this way. I hope they put avatars in so I can finally pick a game for the bunch of us to play. (They want me to play WoW... I just can't get into it) |

A MAX crashing outfit with theme nights and zerg strats? GTFO PLEASE. Planetside doesn't need that crap. If you're playing TR and looking for a small friendly outfit, look up Terran Death Company. A word of warning, they like to play armor. A lot. As far as I remember, the only mandatory was that you have some sort of multi-person vehicle cert. Dunno if they're even still in one piece though. |

Ah, xMars, I remember you being one of the more vocal CR5's for the TR. An actually useful CR5, heh. Well, I'll take your word for it and get to signing in again next month. |

EVE is the only game that made me feel like the things I did affected the world in some small way. Every person you kill, every resource you sell... it all eventually goes into the Alliance wars. REAL space is fought over, for profit, power, and fun. Special Ops groups infiltrate enemy space and report on their assets, capital groups operate with huge ships and their escorts, and incredible, epic battles take place. Meanwhile, us "carebears" feed the mineral and production needs of such epic warfare. There have been times the miners/producers have struggled to keep up with our corp's losses, and I know full well some of our allies nearly went bankrupt in the wars we took part in. It's the price you pay for PVP in EVE. Trust me... though the game is complex and difficult to understand, it is this complexity, this allowance for everything that is human (jealousy, anger, regret, etc) that makes this game so special. Look, if you can't even make it through the 14-day trial, don't post here. You didn't give the game an honest try at all. I played the WoW trial all the way through before deciding it wasn't for me, I expect you to do the same before you unfairly rate a good, solid game. |

This game, in it's prime, was the most fun FPS I've ever played. That statement doesn't come lightly, as I was an avid Tribes player in the past (air-disking people 315 feet away avid), and this game trumps even that. Well, it did. It's still fun, but not the same as it once was. You'll still see some of the things that made this game a classic though, like the gal drops. There is nothing more exciting than dropping on top of the roof of a base and striking with military precision the generator and cap room. Well, except for driving a sunderer through thick enemy armor =D Now THAT is fun. Anyway, the pops are smaller now and the battles aren't as widespread, but hey, play the game for awhile. You might enjoy it. Just hope you don't start expecting other MMOFPSs to be like it... because we all know Tabula Rasa is made of fail. |

Tabula Rasa was suck. How are the pops on Emerald these days? Thinking of re-subbing myself, but I hear the game is slowly on it's way out. |

Anofalye, you say they shouldn't have done this because it will scare the veteran players away, and yet most of the CoH players I know crawled through their 20's with a bunch of alts because they hate the grind, and many of my RL friends won't play the game because of it. Every time I made an alt, I always wondered if it would be worth it. I've dumped many toons because I hit the grind and they weren't fun to play anymore. I mean come on, it took me a few days to get to 20, and then it felt like I spent days earning each level after that. That's not a steady progression, and I do have other things I do and games I play. Keep the vets, retain new players. To do that, the game needs a nice grab to begin with and a slow pull to hold them. You didn't have anything taken from you. You can make alts and take advantage of the quicker speed yourself. Now if you want to talk about additions that piss me off, the $10 wedding pack is it. I'm not paying a sub AND microtransactions. If this becomes a trend, I'm out. |

Alright, I'll make it quick. My friend gave me a trial key a few months ago, and I was wondering if all I had to do was buy a time card or do I have to buy the game to keep playing? Thanks in advance. |

I find it funny most of the whining is coming from pirates. You pirates are the reason every corp has practiced their quick responses and flies in huge groups for defense. That blame falls on you. Pirating in EVE is still weak, as I saw 2 pirates take advantage of server lag and kill my friend's hulk and steal his T2 mods before Concord ever got there (this in a .8 zone... wtf!?) Sometimes you just gotta run... especially when soloing. Not all targets are gonna go down easy. |

This is a very difficult game to get into. It will take you some time to learn and account for all the various nuances of combat. However, the game does ease you into it somewhat. Your first AI enemies will be weak and stupid, but as you go into lower and lower security areas, the enemies will be more numerous, with more powerful ships and equipment, and also force you to specialize, as they will be using special equipment against you (like target and warp jammers) It takes time, but many corporations are very helpful (it is in their best interest that you useful afterall) and the corp AND the people in it will contribute to your success in EVE. Just remember that every person you do something to is likely in a player corporation. Good or bad, that whole corporation will bill you with a reputation based on your interactions with each individual. Be an honest trader and honorable fighter, and they will remember you for that. Pop mining vessels, pod-kill pilots, and in-general act like a moral-less idiot, and that corp will remember you too. No man is invisible in EVE. |

First time I played this game was back in beta. Oh dear god were those battles epic... I fell in love with the game instantly. It was the game I'd always wanted... many hours I should have been doing homework were used (not wasted) playing this game. I specifically remember one instance where I was playing TR and a CR5 actually did something intelligent for once |

Well, I'm for faction chat. I play planetside, and when you overhear your enemies talk on the general channel (which is only local range, it's not a broadcast type thing) it helps you get a bearing on what's going on. Especially useful for cloakers. Sometimes though, we do inter-empire ops. I play TR on Emerald mostly, and we work with small groups of NC from time to time. Usually just a gun/vehicle exchange, but sometimes they actually help us against the Vanu (again, they're in small enough groups to not be tide turning or anything... but they help) It's a lot of fun and really makes you feel like you can affect the game. Too many games are static and the player has little to no effect on it. Admittingly, Planetside is one of them. But at least we can side with one enemy to help defeat the other. NC gauss rifles... *drool* Anyway, I just find that a system that gives players control over the game world is a lot more fun. Like Eve online, where even the factions and companies are made by the players. That's an awesome and realistic idea, and I'd like to see more games like it. But I'd also like to see more games that incorporate different languages. I remember when playing a Wookie in Star Wars: Galaxies seemed like a good idea until you found out nobody else understood wookie. It led to a lot of RP, with that one guy who decided to learn wookie often gaining many powerful and furry friends |

Advertising in games... an interesting and incredibly controversial topic. As controversial as violent video games Here in Canada, it's over $20 a month for just about every MMORPG out there right now. I think that's plenty. If someone is going to place non-intrusive ads in my game, you better drop that price down. I'm not going to let some advertising company control the content in my game just like the TV shows and movies I watch and not pay me back for it. I barely watch TV or movies anymore because I'm sick of waiting to get back to what I was doing. I wanted something interactive, and video games are the answer. I can tolerate ads, but if they get in they way and/or provide no benefit to me, sorry, but I'm gone. I'm not afraid to switch games until I find one that stands for what I want. And if I can't find an MMORPG I'll play another genre. (Yes, I'm quite stubborn AND spiteful... it's a good mix The point is the advertising MUST provide a clear benefit to me, or I leave. And for the love of god, at least advertise good products... I have no need for McDonalds, Pepsi, or Nike. You know, back to the topic of monthly fees... within 3 months with that money I could have bought a brand new game. Are MMORPGs really worth the price we pay for them? |

New players need a way to get jumped into a group of people and start to integrate into "society" as early as possible. It's a lot easier to come back to a game knowing you'll have someone to talk to. Those games where someone feels lonely get boring, even if it's a good game. I won't lie, I have no idea how to make something like that work and it would be difficult, but it would also be worth the time invested in it. Second, though I often get into big arguements over this with people on forums, it has to be said: the cost. Here in Canada, it's harder than ever to pay for an MMORPG. Everything is on the raise. Every food item, every litre of gasoline, taxes on land and the cost of homes/renting... well, ok, there is one thing not rising. Salaries In my opinion, the #1 reason MMOs don't get much new blood is this: people don't understand the reason for playing. They see MMOs as games, just like any other, but with a monthly fee. They don't see the community or the constant evolution of the game. Even experienced gamers see things this way. Many of my friends don't understand why I like to play MMOs. Somehow they need to tell people what they're missing. I'm positive that would help. P.S. I'd like to see the prices go down |

I played Runescape for years. Literally. Since the 3rd month it was out. It wasn't my first MMO, but it was one of my first. For such a graphically simple game, I loved it. And I still love the game. It's the community I hate. I havn't played for almost a year because of the amount of assholes on RS (though trust me, it got bad long before that). Members or not, I couldn't sustain a conversation with anyone in that game, nor have any real fun. I'd try to organize stuff, but people simply didn't care. Runescape turned into another Counter-Strike for me: great game played by a bunch of losers. Anyway, I've tried most of the MMOs (Anarchy Online, City of Heroes, Dark Age of Camelot, Guild Wars, Everquest, Knight Online, World of Warcraft, The Matrix Online, Planetside, Ragnarok, RYL, Shadowbane, Star Wars Galaxies, Ultima Online, the list goes on) and very few of them appealed to me (Runescape was one of the few). It really is too bad it got flooded by morons, it was an incredible game in the beginning... btw, I figured after mentioning all those games I should mention what I really liked and what I really didn't based on both the gameplay and at least my encounters with the people playing: |
