In the past I have thought that US/EU split was bad but this is insane....if I cannoy join my fellow europeans then I will not be signing up for this one.

This is most disappointing

So the question is - did you like it enough to buy it and play it once it comes out?

Up until Beta 3 I had not made my mind up...but yes I have ordered it and really hope it lives up to my expectations.

I bought Hellgate, PotBS and Conan and this blows them out of the water IMO ... but so does Pacman

1. Some PvE content, but focus is really on PvP

Neither, pvp compliments pve and vice versa. There are hundreds of quests and hundreds of tome unlocks to discover some are in rvr areas and many are in pve areas.

2. World is small and instanced, though not the the extreme as the case with AoC

The world is huge for a game just releasing and the only main instancing is in the scenario pvp (i.e. battlegrounds) and some dungeons (but then wow has instanced dungeons and battlegrounds) There are some cut scenes such as world travel,

3. You can level by just PvPing and ignoring PvE totally

True although in myexperience it is quicker to do both although there has been some rebalancing of xp lately.

4. If you do PvE, the quest line is very linear taking you from point A to point Z

Partly true but there are six racial areas to choose from all with their own questlines and areas to explore. All games lead you through content to varying degress, WAR does this in a way that feels logical aand with the addition of 'lairs' etc there are reasons to explore off the beaten track.

5. The 2 cities are large but empty

They will fill as the game goes live and people level up. Currently everyone is in pve/rvr frenzy mode.

6. Graphics is good, may be better than WoW's, but also has the cartoony feel

The character/equipment and objects are fabulous with a high level of detail. The landscape and plantlife is of a lower quality but that is due to view distance and high level effects being turned down. Currently if you look at the ground at your toons feet you can see much greater detail so it is safe to assume that come release the graphics will be nice. If you look at official Games workshop artwork you will see what the game looks like.

I truly believe that if a MMO is to be very successfull, the focus should be more on PvE than on PvP. I think the PvP is going to be really amazing, but that the lack of PvE focus will be the cause for subs numbers dropping rapidly after about 6 months (or however long it takes you to get to the level cap).

IMHO a good game has both and needs depth, lots of content and lots of variety. A change of pace is never a bad thing and I believe many people get bored of a game because of the lack of variety. An MMO should be a complex world not a fight arena, players can get that in FPS.

PvP is essential for a MMO today and I sometimes wonder how LOTRO would have fared if they had implemented that properly.

Another game another forum

That's pretty much par for the course with AoC.

Funcom practice the Scotty timing method but in reverse i.e. takes twice as longe rather than half the time ^^

They closed the pre launch boards and opened e new 'customer' only forum. Youre account is added when you register your key with funcom and not via the new board. This means afaik the only people with access at the moment are the EA players.

I don't think the beta boards are affected but they do seem to be 'down for maintenance' probably due to the extremely uncalled for posting yesterday.

OK so they launched 3hr20min late but what a launch, it plays smoother than the beta and looks great.

I got in first time, had over 60fps which is higher than I got in beta and absolutely no lag playing on max settings. A first for me in any launch no crashes in four hours

Good job Funcom, well worth the wait. Off to log on and leave all the naysayers and trolls out here...

@ the guy above...you cannot register for the forum, it is account holders only which at this point means EA players only and later anyone who registers the game. The boards are up no problems.

Got an invite, probably due to my LC account.

Thought what the heck, WAR beta is offline, so I DL'd the client.

I played it for an hour at which point I nearly wiped it...few days later gave it another go and actually started to enjoy Shaiya.

It does remind me of L2 especially the skill system and pvp, but that is good IMO. The big difference for me when comparing to L2, is that I have yet to experience any major lag unlike castle sieges in Lineage where I usually spent an hour of the siege running back or totally lagged out.

It is not a fully rounded MMORPG but what it does it does well. Compared to other freebies it is pretty good, better pvp than Rappelz, less grind than 9Dragons or RFOnline and way more polished than 2Moons.

The combat is fun and some thought is required when taking on mobs. The movement is both WASD and click2move (which I actually prefer...get to drink my coffee while running to mob locations) some of the animations are pretty cool, nice back flip if you double tap the S key. There is a lot of running around in this game but nothing is ever too far away and there are some excellant mob location maps on the forums. Some of the localisation on quests etc is a little wacky sometimes but most of the directions are accurate.

The UI is nice and uncluttered but the chat text size is very small on higher resolutions with no way to adjust the size (even via the ini) although the chat box size can be altered via the ini.

If you want something to, do while waiting for the next big western release, this game is quick to get into and does not require weeks of gaming to get to the pvp. It's not revolutionary, it's not original but it works and works very well.

I check my emails everyday, not just for the beta invite but for news and other stuff and i check the main site every week or 2 weeks.

I do mean going to their website. I usually check my mail, and then when I don't see an invite, to make sure that my status hasn't changed, I actually login to the beta center to see my status. I do this multiple times a day.

Yeah, I really want to be in there.

Definately log in to the beta centre...I have not seen an email yet but I logged in to my beta account to find the client available for DL so yeah log in regular...you never know.

Yeah, and strange as it may seem, I am not paying £99 for a copy. :)

That has to be a bug or something in Amazon.UK

You could order from the US Amazon for like 40 pounds including shipping http://www.amazon.com/Everquest-II-Echoes-of-Faydwer/dp/B000H229BE/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1/002-9331703-9886412?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1179120959&sr=8-1

That probably wont help for a DVD version as the UK and the US use different formats.

Bought my EoF from the US for $40 plus import tax/carriage just three weeks ago, from Gamestop.com and it runs fine in the UK

Turbine wielded the great nerf bat on the economy very recently and screwed the economy in my opinion.

Training costs - up

travel cost - up

repair costs - up

AH fees - up

mailing fees - up

Cash drops - down

Quest cash reward - down

Quest xp - down

IMO this was done to slow players down and give Turbine time to patch/add content. When players reach 35+ the majority of mobs are elite, the solo quests dry up and the game becomes a real grind, no more casual play.

Titles and enhancements, very cool indeed, so cool it is used in CoV/CoH...read 'badges' and 'enhancements'. It is not an exact copy but close, IMO though, the LOTRO system is not as detailed as the CoX version where enhancements can be combined and improved.

Still a nice system though, just wish devs wouldn't keep presenting these systems as new or innovative.

Agree with the OP, seems a fair summary of LOTRO

I would like to add a note from my beta experience (september 2006 - march 2007) regarding the games casual/solo friendliness.

At around level 35 the game becomes much less casual player tolerant and there are far fewer quests that do not require grouping.

Many of the quests that indicate solo content, actually have elites patrolling on top of the objectives or require fighting through elites to get to your destination. The amount of elites in the higher areas is alarming and I can only assume that Turbine are hoping to add content before anyone gets that far. If they don't, expect to have to find groups regularly to reach level 50. (this may have changed as I stopped testing at the beginning of march)

Another note is that the xp gain from quests has been lowered and the game is much harder to solo as group quests may have to be used to fill any gaps in required xp. If you are in a Kinship or have friends to quest with, this should not be a problem.

Is it just me, or do all the characters in the last few screenies seem to be levitating above the ground a little?

During beta, I found the armours to be a little too 'pastel coloured' making the world seem too nice.

Tolkien's world was a hard and dangerous place not a fairy tale picture book.

However, having seen some of the hi res render screenshots, they have improved a great deal.

But to be fair as many people as i know that left the game, the same number stayed and still love it.  Dont think its a terrible game, but i dont think its great either. Just my 2 coppers.

Pretty much echoes my experience too...was in beta from start of beta 1 and after the second wipe I had to force myself to test.

shame, I was so hopeful too
