Really?  Sounds like classes to me.

Do you mean faction classes or character classes?  Either way, you are wrong.

Yeah, you end up having the option to go with a faction, you gain access to faction missions/gear; without a faction you can go anywhere, but pvp won't be an option.  Since reputation will be gained and lost depending on what you do.

As for classes, there are none in a traditional sense.  You place points in to attributes so that you can use certain items/skills/abilities.  There isn't a screen where you click on the guy holding a medkit and *poof* you are healbot!

Except that your faction determines skill proficency, and the factions themselves are given class like descriptions:

"Travelers avoid standup fights where possible since they are rarely profitable, preferring a knife in the back or a silenced pistol to a fight where their enemies can see them coming."

"The Lightbearers are skilled healers, knowing much of pre-Fall medical science and natural remedies. Lightbearers use these skills to help save as many people as they can, and also use their respectable close-combat skills to protect those who cannot protect themselves. While the Lightbearers do not use much in the way of advanced weaponry or armor, they make up for it with skill and the powerful mutations they have developed. "

So while you will be able to pick up and advance any skill you can find, your faction still determines the skills you excell at and therefore rely most on.  That is not how everyone plays, but if you tell people this factions strengths are melee and healing, that is what they are going to focus on.

Heres from the June 4 2008 topic entitled:  Things that have changed over time.

"Lightbearers:

* Primary Skills: Dodge, Empathic, First Aid, Mutagenics, Medicine, Melee, Stealth, Telekinesis, Telepathy
* Secondary Skills: Armorcraft, Athletics, Group Tactics, Nature, Primal, Science, Sonic Manipulation, Suppression, Thermal Manipulation, Weaponry "

"Travelers:

*Primary Skills: Cooking, Athletics, Dodge, Melee, Pistol, Science, Sonic Manipulation, Stealth, Telepathy
*Secondary Skills: Armor use, Armorcraft, Ballistics, Enhancement, Geology, First Aid, Nano-Manipulation, Nature, Rifle, Weaponry"

Forgive me for thinking these resemble classes even if not in the traditional sense.

Mythic has done a poor job in regards to allowing feedback and player opinion to be not even just heard but broadcast.  The bug submission and feedback reports available in game are shockingly limiting, to the point of only allowing you 1 full sentance to voice your concern/ problem/ opinion.

I understand the desire to not have official forums, but this whole "let the credit cards do the talking" bit is pretty lame, it's really just saying that they dont  give a fuck about player feedback, and ways to improve the experience, and will only respond to the playerbase when they leave in masse, making the "Why did you cancel" box there most relied on source of  feedback information.  That's fucking lame.

What most dont realise or dont wanne admit is, where still as retail players BETA TESTING AoC, for all the new and prolly bigger group of console players, game is developed with console in mind not pc gamer.

I've willingly payed retail for a Beta.  It was the first 2 years or so of SWG and it was the best gaming experience ever.

just saying.

if this is true, then it really sux,and its kinda weird that this board aint thread spammed with cons of aoc

it is simply not possible to have an open, zone-free world with the level of graphics that AoC has. Impossible.

Anyone with a realistic understanding of PC limitations knows this.

The graphic quality of AoC has to be seen to be believed....it's beyond amazing. You can't have 2000+ people in one starting area and have it be playable. It's just not realistically feasable.

I think thats a copout excuse to save funcom some money. I bet it could be done.

Star Wars Galaxies when it launched had state of the art graphics. Definitely it was the best for its time 5 years ago. And we didnt have to settle for loading screens when we entered someone's house or a cantina. And we certainly didnt have to choose a zone when entering a dungeon / cave area.

If a game 5 years ago could do it with the best graphics back then, surely funcom can do it now.

When SWG came out it ran for shit,  People crashed when nearing towns, and there were not even houses yet.  Fixes were made over time even as it became more processor intensive.  And it possibly could be done but not without alienating over 60% of the potential player base with older/ slower computers.

They made a choice, and that choice was for the game to be pretty, cause that is what almost everyone talks about, the graphics.  Often mentioned even before gameplay, because apparently most folks would rather stare at virtual rivers and vistas than do just about anything else.

edit.  Also SWG was massive, massively empty. Tons of playable are with very little variation in landscape, and almost no foliage.  If AoC's zone were as barren as SWG's there would be NO problem.   Things like dynamic lighting effects, shadows, and realistic water effects are graphics and processors hogs, way more so than any effects used for SWG.  They are different beasts entirely.

don't really care how many trolls start negative topics.

sensible peeps will make up their own minds and sensible peeps is all we need ingame :)

99% of your so called "trolls" is youre buddies who been waiting for an opportunity to test the game out.

Theyre upset of Conans bad shape and is simply informing the ones that isnt in beta about the poor quality of the game. How you can see these guys as trolls is above me?

Rofl. you think those threads are informative.

No.       They probably have their reasons.         Stop making these threads.

I bet you are right. They want to start off with a crap reputaion on purpose so they can all go collect unemployment when the game falls on it's butt.

That would beat the heck out of releasing the smooth client  and having to count all that smelly old money that would roll in.

Yep, that would be a reason.  I hope that is not the reason, though I won't put it past them.

Also there are OB screen shots on the main page.

Early Sunday morning's patch has greatly improved performance and almost entirely reduced hitching and stalling for most people. Most load times are a lot shorter as well.

People in Open Beta who were frustrated previously should try again now. It's a much different game experience than trying to play with serious performance issues!

I'm impressed with the positive steps they made with this one weekend patch. I think my only doubts now are about what the game is like post level 13 and beyond Tortage. The introductory levels are good for the purpose they serve, but the main world is going to have to offer a much different experience for the game to be a winner.

It didnt help me or my friends the slightest. Its the same performance issues as before. Same crashes.

So speak for yourself next time you talk about improvements.

It helped everyone I knew including myself.  May I suggest a couple things?

1. Turn off "bloom" in advanced graphics options and set shadows to "from characters only".  This may almost double your fps if it was enabled before.
2. Turn off AA (4-25 fps gain on average).  AntiAliasing= a GPU hungry technique to improve the visual quality of a game even further.
3. Run the game off a seperate fast disk or raid system.  This noticeably helps the loading times during zoning and launching of the game.
4. Close all other running programs and antivirus before playing AOC.  Defragment at least twice a week. Use simpleconfig.exe in your gamedir to perform a compression while you sleep.   It takes a while.
5. Run the game fullscreen!

I can guarantee that no less than half of the people complaining or with performance issues have not tried these suggestions or other simple tweaks.

OH MY GOD, some people are having technical issues and some aren't???? This is huge news never before seen in a beta or release, this is clearly the indicator of how this game is going to do because it's such a unique problem.  Seriously Stop the mo'fo'in presses, because this shit is newsworthy.

NEWSFLASH some people are experiencing technical difficulties in AoC beta, scientists fear skies collapse may follow!!!!

Seriously, the forums have lots of info, and you dont have to sift through fanboi posts.

How exactly did you interpret the crafting sentence to mean it would not be a focus? that makes no sense at all.  Crafting is unique because what you make isn't exactly the same as what someone else crafts. They have stated that crafting will be a very important part of the game, and most item's used will be made by players.

Honestly this game won't appeal to everyone, no one is forcing anyone to buy it.

When it releasing it will be accountable for its own positive and weaknesses.

You judge them for yourself. There will be an Open Beta, there will be preview weekends, there will be buddy keys and there will be a trial sometime after launch. There is plenty of free go's at seeing if you like the game.

Personally I bet more than 75% of the posters here will like the game, maybe not in its entirety but for the most part I am confident people will have an enjoyable experience in game, based on how much I found it to be when I played back in January.

Honestly if you want to go around reading some leaked beta scripts dated from months ago, be my guest. If you want to believe everything in them will be the final game, then your about as smart as someone smacking two bricks against their head daily.

QFE!

Wait until you can play/test it and stop making these threads.
