.4 you can be shot without the NPC cops jumping in. Safe security systems are 1.0 to 0.5 if you attack another player in "high sec" systems (1.0 to 0.5) NPC cops WILL KILL YOU and kill you very fast. So all this crying about CCP letting gankers just gank anything shows you must have been traveling into low security systems where police are not around.

As for the OP. EvE is a step beyond any other MMO out. It's been upgraded constantly over the years with MUCH more soon coming on the horizon. 2009 is going to be a kick ass year for EvE.

As for the community of EvE, like EVERY MMO it has it's bad elements. Seems EVERY MMO has been developing a less mature bunch of whiney spoiled pukes. In EvE, they just make good targets. Remember, EVERYONE is on the same server in EvE, you get many good and bad people from all over the world. Just find a good corp. Being in a good corp makes EvE.

Don't be fooled, new players can become handy in PVP very early on in fleets. NO other MMO allows new players to compete in fights with Max level characters. In EvE there is no levels, only skills, and what ship you are flying at the time. From day 1 you can fit a excellent tackler ship (among other paths) and be very important to a fleet.

Safe zones are very much safe if you just take very simple precautions. I have never been attacked in high security systems in over 2 years in game (except when my corporation was war decd, but that's different).

EvE has one of the most important elements also, Longevity. You can be certain EvE will be around for a long time and constantly improving along the way. Walking avatars are coming in a few months also.

P.S. anyone doubting the fact NPC will kill you when you attack another player in high sec, drop by Isinokka I will let you fire on me and watch CONCORD blow you to bits.

I hope they do this title justice. They are playing with fire if not. Trekkies will not be forgiving.

Personally it's going to take one hell of a space game to pull me away from the longevity EvE offers. With so much on the horizon for that game. I can't see leaving it.

I do however like the timeline.

Personally I would take all that cash it will take for the Console itself and all the extras and invest it into upgrades for my PC.

Upgrading a PC can be usefull for games and so much more.

If someone did this in EVE you could just blow them up. Actually would be a more satisfying kill.

Problem with America is the people spend more time in Entertainment and not paying attention to the criminals worming their way into Government. If people spent half the time learning about who is in control of Government as they do details for their games, this Country and the world would be a better place.

but I do agree Politic promotions and other theme breaking promotions should be kept out of games.

I hate to admit but the new SW Old Republic looks more and more like NGE2 the more I read about it.

It will NOT be a sandbox. Crafters are NOT important. It will be LOOT based. It WILL be class based themepark with cartoony graphics. They seem to be following WoW like all other newer MMO's

Maybe it will be good, maybe it will fail. In any case I wouldn't advise ANYONE to wait for it.

EVE is what I went to after leaving SWG (because of NGE). EVE is the only sandbox freestyle MMO I have found since old SWG. It is also one of the very few MMOs NOT following WoW. Many things are being implimented into EVE for the future also so LONGEVITY is very strong in EVE, which is important to me.

Ok.. lets make one thing clear. Every MMO is goign to have a grind at some point.

UO had skills you had to grind, Everquest had levels, EQ2, FFXI, Asherons call,  WOW, everything has a grind in it to some degree cause its the simplest way to reward work and progression.

The thing with War is.. I noticed is .. it not only becomes GRINDY it doen'st have a wide selection of Grind.

And its already stated that the masses dont' mind grinding, as long as when they get tired of it they can do something different.

Lets take the most populat Game for instance. how many things can you grind.

  1. Experience/Levels (quest grinding)
  2. Money (mote farming)
  3. Rep Farming: you can farm up to 10 different reps with 10 different things to collect (dailys, necklaces, beads, marks, ect)
  4. Honor: you can farm those BGS
  5. Arena: You can farm those Arenas
  6. Badges: HEROICS ALL DAY LONG.
  7. LOOTS: lets start raiding 10 man +
  8. Titles: Lets finish those attunement quests anyways I want that TITLE
  9. Proffesion materials: SOO much crafting in this game, enchants, ore, mining, mmmm, need more hebs, potions, lets get it all....

You get the point.

WoW is a major grind.. BUT it gives players soo many different grinds they never get bored of it as quick.. and when they do .. a new ilse is released, a new dungeon comes out, a new profession or expansion hits. They are keeping that Carrot on the end of the stick at all times. and NO killing Gahzrilla will not get you that carrot.

Warhammer has the following grinds

  1. Experience/Levels (quest grinding)
  2. Money (no need for money really)
  3. Rep Farming Influence Farming:  same as rep, to get better gear.
  4. Honor Renown: for the RR gearz
  5. Arena
  6. Badges
  7. Loots Not real dungeons to farm, and loots from inf and Rr would be farming that.
  8. Titles: You can go look for Tome unlocks.
  9. Proffesion materials proffessions aren't hammered out enough in this game to warrant farming of the mats unless you are utterly bored.

Wow has 9 ways to grind

War has 4 : And only 2 in war are actually 1/2 way fun.

When people are done with BGs in wow they can go get mats, honor, rep, any keep thier little grinding minds busy.

in warhammer when you are done with scenarios, and its 1 am and nothing is going on in the server you feel like you just want ot log off.

NO desire to stay.

This doens't apply to all of you .. but to most of you I am sure I got it right.

PS: Darkfall will be a grind too. I garantee I will see most of you standin by a practive dummy or a node, or something.. Dinging away at it to up your skill . For hours. just as they did in UO. Nothing the the last 10 years made that mechanic any better.

WoW's evergrind is exactly a reason I would not play it. That and it's cartoony graphics, along with it's themepark gameplay. I don't play War because it has too many elements of WoW.

Themepark games make me feel like a rat in a maze. If I want to be told what to do I would call my mother. Give me the freedom of a sandbox please.

Infact I think all these new MMOs are failing because they are all WoW formulas. I wish devs would just realize if we want a WoW style game, we will play WoW.

Will some devs grow some nads and give us the Next Gen Sandbox persistant world? or just keep taking the easy safe way and follow WoWs formula only to realize that you will not outperform WoW at what it has become so popular for.

NEW PLAYERS STAY AWAY FROM EVE ONLINE!

unless you like free for all PVP because you will begin to getting ganked within hours of starting eve.

Well I read this far and ignore the rest of the post since the baove statement shows the poster does not have a clue. My girl friend is sitting next to me right now. Has done a ton of serious trade and mission running, inlcuding low sec in the 3 months she has been playing. She has been in ZERO PVP action the whole time.

I am running a lot in border regions, sec ratings from 0.4 to 0.1 and have in the last 3 months with this new character seen zero PVP.

Eve does have a ton of PVP but to say you will get ganked as soon as you start is just flat a lie. Oh I am sure a SMALL percentage might have seen some nub attacking them early but a serious gank, sorry but I call BS.

Well, good for your gf, but, have her leave carebear space...if she is not ransomed/destroyed within 30 mintes...let me know. I have been out of carebear space 3 and only 3 times. Lost 2 drakes, and raven...will never play this game again. No, you can not have my stuff, and yes, I will be careful not to let the door hit me in the ass on way out.

Eve servers a purpose...keeps the psychopaths off the street...thank god for Eve.

Cry some more about being careless.

You complain about PVP yet you travel into PVP areas and cry someone PVP's you.

EVE is a game where you can't carelessly stroll into any star system. It is very easy to avoid PVP by staying in secure space. Which has MANY systems.

That's like saying your a KKK guy walking alone through Compton and wondering why you get jumped.

Actually, you CAN change your attributes.
Equiping yourself with implants, and training the 'Learning' catagory skills will improve your attributes.

As for disgruntled players claiming that EVE is repetative. That maybe the case at the moment (but what games arnt?), but the developers have achnowledged this, and have announced that they're working on addming more varied missions, etc

Right. EvE CAN GET repetative if you let it. It's a sandbox. Nothing is leading you around by the hand like themepark MMO's. You do what you want. You skill for any role you want. Every character can learn anything in game. There is no character class restrictions. Thus a 3 year character can be great in many combat ships, industry, and market dealing.

I also agree corps and grouping make this game so much better. The NPC corp you start in is something you want to plan to leave after you find some direction.

I recommend looking up EvE University (player corp) as a starting corp with many players who make it a passtime to train and bring in new players to the game. They can help give you direction in the vast cold universe of EvE.

and last thing, for the love of all that is good, DON'T SKIP THE TUTORAL!

Anyone who says EVE pvp takes no skill has no clue how to PVP in EVE. Solo or groups it's all about effecient fitting, and tactics.

As for the crybabies who say you can't be effective as a new player, You are wrong.

People playing for 3 years can't fly a certain ship (smaller then a capital ship) any better. These people just have skills for MORE kinds of ships or skilled for capital ships. A new player can be very effective early on, and with a focused path get into a nice ship (and fly it well) in a short time.

As for anything in EvE being for "the brain dead" I think that statement is just baffling. EvE is the game for people who are the opposite of "the brain dead". It is a very unique open sandbox. A game that has devs with the nads to not follow WoWs shadow.

I have also been playing EvE for over 2 years and is the only MMO (besides pre nge SWG) to keep me that long. EvE is a game in a different class then other kiddie MMOs. I can also vouch for Danag not being part of CCP considering he is my brother.

The skill training is best out of any mmo. Even if you have a life outside gaming your character still trains. There is no "Powerleveling". No PL beggars.

When I read the OP I first tried to scroll down looking for the "Gotcha!" "Just kidding!", then doublechecked the OP title to make sure he was refering to AoC.

Now I just smell the marketing damage control dept. Maybe I'm wrong. Maybe the OP is just a HUGE Fanboi

Your article would have been better accepted without that totally ridiculas rating.

My comment is in regard to The mention of "focus". Should a MMO be "more focused" on pvp/pve?

A sandbox persistant world YOU focus on what YOU choose.

My message to Devs, Stop treating us like cattle. Give us a next gen sandbox and you'll have a winning title. A world you can be heroic, or a average shop worker. Let people have freedom to enjoy a virtual online world the way THEY choose.

If I want to be told what to do I will call my Mother.

after seeing the rise and fall of SWG and this annoucement my conclusion is the following, the SW-background is simply incompatible with the concept of a successful MMO.  If you want to make a SW-MMO Lucasarts forces you to opt for the current mainstream market, as a consequence there is no chance for the development of content that is appealing for mature gamers but you are forced for addressing the needs of the average 14 to 25 year old star wars 2nd generation fans, which maybe have played WoW but no complex MMO and are used to have all the easy to achieve blinky blinky.

The result is a flavor of the month pseudo-storydriven mass product with astonnishing peak sales during release and the same astonishing decay afterwards.

The people wanting KOTOR 3 instead of a MMO should be happy. From what I read this game sounds like it's going to be sort of Guild wars mixed with LOTRO.

It's not a sandbox, it's not the idea SWG had (pre cu) of "You're Star Wars Experience".

It's NGE2. Everyone is "Heroic". Crafting is just a add in. Items will be Loot based. There is class and levels. Every class will be in the same base storyline as everyone else in that class. It sounds like a multiplayer themepark made with a WoW foundation.

The more I read the more disappointed I become.

Any devs out there with the nads to make a next gen sandbox?

O wel,l I still have EVE.

I am wondering when Devs will learn that if people want WoW they will PLAY WOW. Not a WoW sim with a different skin and some added options.

Wake up Devs and realize you have to break into something new to draw people, NOT follow WoWs shadow.

Can we please find some devs with the nads to design a MMO with creativity, quality, and originality? That IS NOT BETA when released.

Maybe a next gen sandbox?

O well at least there is EVE for us sandbox lovers.

Starsider and Gorath are not full of kids. Infact Starsider (the rp server) is a healthy community of very organized players who throw nice events all the time. Gorath is quiet, but the people left are a good bunch overall. I plan to move my Gorath toon to Starsider, because Starsider simply rocks as a server.

As for things being a "ghost town" Starsider is FAR from underpopulated. I would advise ALL mature players to check it out for a future home and leave the kiddie, or quiet servers behind

Kids seem to be on Bloodfin and Bria from my experience (not to insult the good people on those servers). The "most populated" servers generally draw the kids.

When Bioware mentioned "heroic" it made me twitch in rememberance of the NGE hype.

I am realizing it's no sandbox either. Crafting is also just a addon. They made it clear crafting is not high on their list.

I fear Bioware is following the WoW formula.

The cartoony direction will turn me away quick if they plan to go the kiddie direction.

I never played WoW because of the cartoony style, and that will also go for this game if that's what they are heading for.

Bioware is going to fail bigtime if they WoWify KOTOR

Lets hope they don't

IF WE WANT WOW WE WILL PLAY WOW!

Well, at least I still have EVE. Kudos to CCP for having the nads to make an MMO not following WoWs shadow.

Anyone who questions having large core game changes in beta don't really understand what beta testing stage is.

Beta the game is pretty much finished (especially the core game). They should be just ironing out bugs for release.

Large core changes usually are not made after ALPHA test stage.

You also can't blame people for using beta keys just to get early access to see if they like the game.

So many MMOs are releasing with many empty promises, and large flaws it is impossible for many to fork out cash before they get to try the game.

Will it be good game? Probably, but basically it will be KOTOR3 with online element. Might just aswell be KOTOR3 singleplayer minus online subscription.

I guess the deconstruction of Massively multiplayer virtual world hope continues towards "story driven" (read singleplayer like) cooperative gaming

WoW can be thanked for this. It's massive success attracted big buisness like flies to dung.

I doubt any MMO will do what SWG did back in it's prime implimenting housing in it's open world (not instanced zones), or have so many NON combat things to do.

SWG had a great vision of a persistant world but was shot down by horrid management.

Earthrise sounds appealing as does Fallen Earth and of course The Old Republic.

Personally I have stopped hoping for "the one" mmo.

As for current true sandbox games, I enjoy EVE, and the scraps of SWGs leftover good parts.

I must say, SWG is still managed terrible. This card game they just released is one of the worst moves for a mmo I have seen since NGE.

I really hope The Old Republic is not 2 to 3 years out. Hopefully it will be worth the wait.

As for WoW, I can never get into it's cartoony graphic style. I do give credit to it's marketing. You walk into a game store and 90% of the time WoW has a whole shelf row to itself.

I also hate what WoW has done overall to the MMO market. Now it's not about innovation and creativity.

It's big buisness following market plans to get targeted demographic profits following safe unoriginal platform designs treating people like cattle in predetermined themepark paths.
