Obviously the people who rail on these videos never played Ultima Online. Anyone who played UO has already fallen in love with a game with a 2d fixed 3/4 bird's eye view. All the dexers did was swing their weapons the same way everytime. Only the noise of it striking changed according to what was equipped. DF is aiming to please these people. They aren't trying to screen an IMAX version of what a graphical mmorpg is supposed to look like. I guarantee the graphics/animations could be much worse, but if they get half of their promised features in, there will be hundreds of thousands of happy, loyal customers.

The End.

DF is just one of many games I am watching right now. If it fails, too bad for them. No skin off my back. I don't even have my desktop plugged in. It's sitting in my closet. I am not subscribed to any game. So, if it makes you feel like a big man to call me a DF fanboy or expose my mommy instinct, have at it.

radlin do you just bounce between every Darkfall post making snarky, psuedo-intellectual comments? It's a little sad.

It's not that people have so much confidence in Darkfall. It's that they have Hope.

The fact is that lots of people are willing to suspend their sense of disbelief for some Change They Can Believe In.

Even though the object of their Hope has done nothing tangible to earn their trust, they overlook that as a minor detail because the promises are so alluring.

Call it the Obama factor.

P.S. The responses/flames to this post should be awesome. Just so you can pigeonhole me accurately, I do hope Darkfall exists and is a success, but I did not vote for Obama.  Enjoy!

The other day I posted a message asking why Activision Blizzard stock is doing so abysmally on the tail of record profits last quarter, and a massive new expansion just in time for Thanksgiving shopping and Christmas. Some amateur market followers were quick to point out the global recession as the answer.

Somehow I doubt they have been following the stock recently. Although far from soaring, Activision Blizzard has been hovering at about the same spot with minor gains and losses daily. However, the day of the release it dropped nearly two dollars and many of the $12.50 strike price options terminating in January dropped by 50%! That's nuts considering how much money Blizzard is supposed to be grossing on this expansion, new subscriptions and subscription renewals. Not to mention the "record turnouts" posted in the gaming news.

Also, I played WOW when Burning Crusade came out. Where I live, you simply could not find that box if you didn't line up at midnight at your local Gamestop the night before release. Burning Crusade was on back order everywhere. You couldn't even get it at the most distant ghetto b.f.e. Wal-Mart in the middle of nowhere.

Today I was shopping for a new a/c adapter for my laptop and I went to three different electronics stores and they had piles of WOTLK boxes. I know times are tough, but most people that can afford gaming rigs and 40+ hours of raiding per week can afford a $40 expansion.

So, is it really the market recession, or is the behemoth in death throes? Maybe 10,000,000 divided by fanboys running 36 accounts on their super nerd rig in their mom's basement and 2,000,000 Chinese gold farming slaves is not that high of a number after all.

If they are selling so many boxes, why is my blizzard stock still falling?!

Hack and slash sounds like a wet dream to me. Can't wait to hack and slash.

There are Aion haters? I was not aware of that.

Buy as many boxes as you can. Start another account. Use them as stocking stuffers. Give them to the homeless. Give them to Christmas charities as gifts for kids. Send them overseas to gold farmers. Buy! Buy! BUY!

In case you were wondering: yes, I do have stock and options in Activision Blizzard. So, buy all you can and subscribe forever, just don't tell anyone that I think the game is trash, even though I make money off it. LOL!

Finally the truth comes out. The OP is getting paid to push this poor, tortured amalgamation of an online abortion on the gaming community. UO was the best game ever. It has been patched, updated and expanded into oblivion. Save yourself the trouble of trying to fall in love all over again. That young hotty you knew before is a big fat mullet wearing trailer queen now. Maybe if you never knew UO in its original glory you can enjoy it. Who knows...

Imagine how much the thieves are going to lose in online auction posting fees. I think the street value of all those games comes in at around -372.50 USD.

The current incarnation of UO is NOT a skill-based game. If I reactivate one of my 7x GM's and fight some goofball at the Moonglow graveyard, I will get owned based on his gear alone even though I was a top-ranked dueler. Hell, I would probabaly be killed by the npc spawn. If you don't have good gear, you suck. That is not a skill-based game. Sorry. Trammel also killed the sandbox. No risk, no return. It is WOW sans linear quests and cartoonish graphics. Sorry, just because you played some MUDS doesn't make you an authority on the evolution of MMORPGS. UO is dead. What you are playing is not the same game.

The new UO is an abomination and a blasphemy of old UO. It is WOW with crappy graphics. I liked the old bird's eye 3/4 view 2d/3d hybrid too though. I agree with you there.

The UO you describe no longer exists. It is an item based safe zone populated by all the losers who used to set up spam macros at brit west bank selling their torches and layered sashes.

WOW still sucks. On a positive note, the stock rebounded after lunch and ended the day up a bit.
