Thanks for the replies!

First I thought it was a dead shot in the water since nothing happened in 24-hours, which is pretty much an eternity in forum-world.

It seems ive found the reason that there is no "obvious" choice, so my searches hasnt been fubar atleast. On a philosophical side of it, its weird. Seriously, most guys I play/played with would pay alot of dough for a game with similiar criterias, as sci-fi/futuristic, more "serious" if that works for a game (and I dont mean the 8-10 hours per day of "hardcore" as serious).

No game ive looked in has similiar aspects, yet, alot of people seem to want it. Perhaps its a catch of FOTM amongst the game companies? What works sells, what sells pays the bills...

I will try the city of villians/heroes out, I seriously thought it was a completely silly/pointless game before I read the suggestion, but then again I havent even seen a trailer and nothing close to ingame vid's/screenshots, I just based my oppinion about the game over the name  (cmon it sounds kindof immature/silly :p).

Ill check it out, give it a go and see what its all about. And lets pray for a proper game to be released :)

EVE.  lineage2 was great to play when it first came out, but joining that type of game later just makes it less fun.  most of the world is a ghost town, except for massive numbers of bots.

EVE has a harsh learning curve, but if you can find some good people it can turn into a lot of fun.  If you can't find some good people you'll end up pretty lonely.

Now if I could just fix that problem for myself...

I need a nice bunch of regular people ("social drinkers who game :-p") to play with.

EVE with ventrilo+m8's would so hook me up.

Right now im looking at the EVE-client and my trial account, with some booring MP3 in the headphone, didnt get out of the tutorial before I ALT+F4 :-p

I so want a sci-fi/futuristic mmo to play, EVE would fix me (I like enormous complex games aslong as they are online/mmo), just that no IRL-m8's plays it and the ones I knew when I DID play it, have quit :p

Doesnt it take like a full year or close if you play L2 casually? (not /played, IRL).

Read something similiar in a review when it was completely fresh, its why i dont bother with it :-p

Well the reason I like sager is the fact that all ive read about them, they get top-grades when it comes to the temperature and cooling of their laptop (incl. highspec models).

Never owned one myself, never really seen one tbh (and I still work in IT :p), they arnt exactly big in northern europe as a brand at all, there are some re-branders using their products, but still not compared to the big players.

Havent really played games "properly" for years, been a wow-addict but Ive had the same graphics pretty much since I bought the game, resently stocked up with my 8800GTS but tbh, nowdays I dont care that much about preformance when it comes to my desktop, just hafto buy some new parts and good2go, worse case with laptops, and reason I made the post is I dont really keep track of what game-engines require what spec's nowdays.

For example, AoC would probably run nice on the m860 in say 1280 and medium/semi high settings, im pretty sure about that, not 100% though ;-)

Wonder how a 8800m GT is compared to a 7900GT, hafto find myself some charts somewhere I guess ;-)

This laptop cannot even play Crysis on its highest settings at a playable framerate.  At the cost you can buy 2 desktops that can, including 24" monitors.

I think the 9800M GTX wont be seen in any 15.4" anytime soon, which is agreeable pretty sad.

I wont be looking for FPS-games though, MMORPG's, if I can find any that I actually wanto play, and I know they cost money, I already have a desktop that can play crysis with everything on max even though I didnt like the game, but still, wanto get rid of desktop+laptop and get a good replacement preformance laptop ;-)

I wont go for any 17", they are just to big, 15.4" works just a close call really.

Given the fact that I really wont be wanting any FPS-game's I should be ok, then again im pretty positive even this "monster" laptop cant handle AoC that well given the requirements, which in reality means it wont handle new games any  better.

Im so close to buying myself a new laptop, wanto replace desktop+laptop so I dont hafto keep hassling with 2 machines (annoying and takes space).

Now that Montevina and nvidia's 9800M-models are out, I suppose its closer then ever for having a "gaming" laptop (with the exception of a 17" 10kg sli-laptop, which is just a movable desktop :-p).

Currently ive "decided" for a sager/clevo model via kobalt, m860. Specs:

  • Core2Duo P9500 2.53(or T9600 2.8GHz, doubt there is that big a difference here, though 100£ extra)
  • 4GB DDR3 to match the FSB
  • 9800M GT 512MB DDR3
  • 7200RPM/16MB cache 320GB Disk (think its a scorpio)

The rest of the speccs feels a bit unimportant since it doesnt really affect the gamingpreformance, will run linux on it but have a small vista-installation for gaming.

Anyone got experiences with late 2007/2008-game engines on a similiar rig?

There has been 17" out for a while that should equal the above in pure technical specifications...

Ive been playing MMO's since EQ1 pretty much, varied my games abit, also had various amounts of time avalible for playing throughout the years, like most others I guess.

Right now, im just doing some random CoD4 with a m8 and sometimes my bro, although I miss the lack of character development tbh.

I work, but I still have anything from 0-5 hours of time, depending on what other stuff I got going, but I cant get into a time-heavy game, IE endgame in some of the more popular MMO's.

  • Some games ive played:
  • EQ1
  • AO
  • DAOC
  • EQ2
  • EVE
  • WOW

I have been periodically quiting wow stoping for good about a year ago, simply tired with the game, to much gear-requirement and the "you hafto play for X hours per day or its no point"-attitude.

I liked EQ2, but didnt play with anyone (no m8's who fancied eq generally) so it got a bit boring, im a pretty social player, I havent played a single-playergame for years now I think.

EVE was not my cup either, to booring with all the long flight-paths, the skillsystem was IMO idiotic (the IRL-days thing) etc, and the ganking-concept with FFA loot, all in all I liked the interface and game-idea, but the actual product blew me off.

Now, im hoping to find some kind of sci-fi/futuristic MMO, im just tired of elf's and dwarf's TBH.
My "perfect" game would be something similiar to Freelancer where you develop a character and ship simultaniously sortoff, with some kindof mutant (the old book-rpg)/fallout world place to roam in aswell. Not that I think anything like that is around/comming soon, just to give you an idea what im kindof looking for.

What I liked in wow was that it could be pretty hectic. the "smash all the keys at once"-syndrome, its just fun to be involved!

Not: I tried Age of Conan aswell, both me and my bro bought the CE'box. thinking it would be great, I think I "tried" to like it for 2-3 weeks then just CBA and threw it away. I dont know, I just think it was a very bad game with 0 freedom in character development etc etc.

Have found some similiar posts but cant say any of the game's ive checked in the "hype-list" or the mmo-list here is exactly what im looking for.

Perhaps ill try Tabula Rasa, but didnt feel like it was what I wanted from some readin, but then again I dont think you can really get the hang of a game, without trying.

But any suggestions of games comming soon would be nice, I havent really had the time to keep track of things like that recently, to busy with other stuff and francly I think the MMOdevelopment has kinda gon downwards mostly, to many making half-assed games.

Sidenote: I got a stable gamingrig so preformance aint a problem, some am2 6400, 8800gts(or gtx I dont know..) 4gb ram etc.

Perhaps switching to a laptop permanently soon but then ill get as much preformance as I can (almost.. dont like 17" 10gb lapies), probably a 2.8Ghz Core2Duo with 9800m gts 512ddr, think that should handle most games (without everything at max/1680 etc ofcourse).

Long post, I tend to overwrite, but then again im having morningcoffe + being bored, and ive really been looking for some evening entertainment for a while now and came up deadly! Givf tips!

Edit:

Me = 25 years old, working, also got my own little semi-hobby bussiness on the side, so I dont have loads of time around, but Im perfectly willing to spend anything from 10-50$ a month for a very good game, if it is, a _very good game_.
