Ive heard about eve through alot of game forums. So I decided to give it a try.  So far im still in the tutorial but Im curious if the combat gets better.

Does movement add anything to the fight or are there any tactics.  Or does combat pretty much equal skill points, items and watching the light show?

Read through the millions of other posts about Eves combat system. it's not something easily summed up.

But to answer your questions. Yes, movement matters and there are many different tactics but it is not about twitch flight sim style combat and NO combat is not just skill points and items. Well it may be that way in PvE but in PvP there are a ton of factors.

PvE combat does not equal PvP combat at all. They are extremely different.

in virtual worlds players should be able to kill children''s, f*ck the nanny and r*pe the granny

yes movement matter allot i try to give u a example
a year ago i saw a Kill mail from a crow killed by dread, that player stand still
a crow have signature radius = 36m (and whit skills i much lower)
a a revelation use dual giga beam laser, and have signature resolution =1000m
u can make some numbers to se the probability to get hit, but when u dont move u get very hight chances to get hit by any ship

Theres some good bedtime reading to start with. In PvP the ability to dictate the distance and relative angular velocity  to your opponent (by being faster than them) is very highly sought after, it can often decide the battle. Many people are more than happy to fly fits that give up a lot of hitpoints, dps and capacitor size to squeeze out large max speeds on their ships, it's THAT important. The whole ship speed situation is about to get a major shake-up though, with the so called 'Nano-nerf', but thats a whole other story :P

Picture a naval battle.  A fast ship can determine the pace of the battle.  The fastest ship can choose when to engage and when to disengage.  They can also move across the bow of the enemy ship fast making it hard for cannons to hit them accurately.  A small fast ship can be very hard to hit or pin down.  But size of guns and armor does matter - a tiny fast ship is probably not going to take down a galleon all by itself.

Skill points matter.  A lot.  But within 2-4 months you can train up your skills to even out the skill advantage an older pilot has by focusing your skill training on one specific class of ship.  The older player will always be able to pilot more ships than you (and in EVE you can never catch up in that respect), but you can equal out the skill advantage by specialising.

Yes, but it is more of a strategic thing than  a tactical thing.

Turrets have tracking speed, which defines how quickly they can move to target things. If someone is moving perpendicular to you (as opposed to directly towards or away from you) they will be harder for your turrets to track, which will make it harder for you to hit. so combat does involve positioning your ship. Perpendicular movement is referred to as "transversal velocity". How fast the target is moving (side to side) from the perspective of the turret firing.

Missiles are not affected by transversal velocity, which is one reason they are such popular weapons in the game.

The actual firing itself is on autopilot, much like WoW and other MMOs. Typically, movement is done by clicking on something and selecting "approach", though you do have manual (if sluggish) direct control of the ship...by double clicking in any direction, you can tell the ship to move that way. You also have direct control over your speed.

Eve never becomes dog fighting if that's what you mean. 'Movement' or speed and maneuverability will factor in to combat but it is predetermined by ship, skill and modules just like dps and tanks. If you go in to combat with low skills, a slow ship or hard to turn, you just don't take as long to blow up.

Eve is broke. They are nerfing speeds as we speak. Lag is killing large engagements. Most missions can be accomplished simply by flying a select few ships to a designated point, locking and blasting out missles. Eve Combat is what you see. Any attempt to suggest otherwise is splitting hairs.

NO sir the nerf was canceled after players feedback there will be a nerf but no that nerf Lag is killing large engagements. dont use drones so will be less for the server if are 500 ppl in sistem and 300 of them have 5 drones =1500 drones and the server have to make effort for that  Most missions can be accomplished simply by flying a select few ships to a designated point, locking and blasting out missles. Eve Combat is what you see. Any attempt to suggest otherwise is splitting hairs.

Please don't spread misinformation.
The speed changes are on Multiplicity currently, because Sisi is being used for testing the next patch. After that patch is deployed, the speed changes will probably be put on Sisi again, as they are scheduled for the patch after that.

By the way, stop calling everything a nerf. It's a boost for everything that does not involve putting a lot of speedmods on oversized ships to reach invincibility.

The voice of reason

Speed is not nerfed, it's being balanced. That's something completely different.
