Tried TR in beta but never purchased.

They sent me a "play for free" mail & I figured ... ok.. I'll give it another shot.

Now, Im watching what appears to be TR patching from ver 1.0 to 11.8 (or something)

 Has got to be one of the stupidest things I have ever seen in a pay-to-play MMO.

Why in the FREAK don't they have a more recent image to start from?

 It is going to take HOURS patching up to the current version.

Wow, not sure what the difference is but I got the same beta deal myself.  I had also deleted everything after the game went live because I didn't see myself buying it or playing it  anytime in the immediate future.  But with the email i though I may as well give it a try for a couple weeks.  It downloaded one huge instellation file of about 2.9gb and self installed from that with no additional patching required.  Took a total of an hour from clicking the download to logging into the game.  I have no clue as to what the difference would be though

You haven't tried installing WOW then. that took for ever when i tried it. lost count of how many patches it had to download with there Torrent patch downloader.

I am going to guess you picked a bad time. About 6 months ago I tried WOW for the free 10 days and the download was very fast.

I redownloaded TR before the weekend and I was up and running within an hour.

Just depends on your internet connection. I have 12Mbit, so it went incredibly fast.

i myself was in beta and never played after that i got the invite and downloaded the client in 57mins had it installed a few mins after that and spent longer trying to get a name for my character. no problems at all here with the download.

Or for less then $20.00 you can buy the CE and have it ready to play in less then 30 minutes, patch and all.  I thought that the money was well spent as I got al the CE bonuses and 30 days to boot with it anyways......Well for me at least $20.00 was money well spent..................but I see others prefer the free version and don't mond waiting for it, so no worries.....If I don't like it any more then I did during beta, and like I said, 30 days plus the bonus content is like pennies per day whether i like it or not!

Why spend $20 if you are not sure you will like it?

You can spend $5 on Amazon for the regular edition. If yu buy a time card, you can get it free.

I have the Collectors Edition. When I resubbed a couple of weeks ago it didn't take long at all to patch. I think it spent more time patching than it did downloading.
