Version 1.06 of Age of Conan finally went live last Friday, bringing new Guild Renown, and token systems to Age of Conan. The update also introduces a new Tier 3 raid instance to the game, and rounds out with an Assassin revamp, as well as a crowd control balance-pass.

[Thanks Thorgrimm!]
Kinda miss aoc, havent played it since launch. But man do i hate all the loading screens and instances :(
AoC would have been friggin awesome if it was an openworld game without instances.
I have just been messing around on my assassin for an hour. I like the assassin revamp although I'll have to tweak my talents more.
I usualy loath instancing in a MMO to death (and it sucks here to) but AoC had/has bigger problems than instancing or at least last I played it. I really wanted it to work and perodicaly give it another go now and then but the game just never takes makes it.
1) you level way to fast ADD much; makes it seem like the whole game is about end game and really last I trye dthe end game there wasnt much there
2) the linear 1-20 is fine ala tutorial levels but the hole game plays and feels like a single player RPG perhaps multi player but by no means massively so (this isnt due to instancing) the reason isn't the population but the fact that I have no need to talk to another player unless I want to do a dungon (this sucked in WoW to)
Im not saying AoC is a bad game it has a lot of greate features, is very prity, a lot of fun in combat but it has some fundamental flaws that for me kill it. If they can add some depth to it, slow it down so that its not quite so end game focused then I might be able to re-sub and stay.
There´s quite a lot added "depth" to the game with update 1.06. Read the patch-notes :)
Get your hands on the expansion when it comes out. Its a much more massive Open World experience.

I have yet to try this out. While it won't exactly be a seamless world it shall be much, much better.
Now give me pants and a decent UI and an open key binding system ;)
You know I am higly considering returning to AoC, there was so much I loved about it....but I am wondering if the community has improved, the last time I played Wiccana was Asshats on parade, no sense of community what so ever and the other servers were even worse. The game can improve by leaps and bounds but if the community sucks the game still fails.
never had this problem when i play it ...the problem for me was the lack of players...yeah sure is not totally empty but mid and low tiers seems ery empty to me...same that happens with WAR
and i know is a barbarian age or something...but the females have to really look that odd (also the males with the skirts..even the guards looked better than the players). ..is a game wich put sexy and violent almost as a damn feature mentioning it over and over...i get the violence...but not the sexy lol...some may say wtf have that to do with anithing?...well for me is important to feel and love my avatar to progress in pve and RotGS looks the same or maybe worst hehe
anyways hope this update brings new hopes for AoC u never know maybe this game recover his lost players
Server merges have taken care of a lot of the pop issues. And a lot players are rolling alts, so on my server CROM there is a very large pop spread out over the entire lvl range.
Higher level armor in AoC looks pretty cool and is realistic.
Best thing is try the trial and then all your doubts can be addressed for better or worse, and you lose nothing, just time!
problem is to see is is true and the game is better now i have to suscribe for 1 month and chek it out...was thinking on buy Lotro so is between those 2 thimngs to do
my character is...40 i think and i really dont wanna to lvl another one from 0 unless i see something new on tortage...even if lvling on AoC is not slow
crom is a european server right?
because i was on the NA ones
Yeah Crom is in the EU.
Go to the AoC forums and have a look at what servers are currently available.
AoC has come on massively since release, it has super smooth graphics now and they look awesome. AoC is the best improved game of 2009 according MMORPG and they are right.
I suggest that you either spend the $15 and have a look at how the game plays now, at level 40 you can do a few dungeons etc. Or if you dont want to risk it, play the trail and see how you feel, if you log into the trial and think "urgh not again" then it is not worth subbing and you save $15.
LOTROL will be pretty cheap at the moment and when you buy it you get 30 days free. So you could give that a go and see if you like it, not sure if they have a trail but that would be the way to go here are well. Check out their web site and see.
I wish you luck and hope you find something engaging.
PS: I play MMOs all the time, as such i swap them around a lot to avoid getting bored, I play Eve, WoW, Aoc and now STOL. Not all at once but one at a time, when i get tired with one, i re-sub another. I do have LOTROL, EQ2, D&D but never really played them far as they did not appeal.
Yes, Lotr has a trial. But I was bored by that game instantly for some reason and AOC hooked me from the get-go. Not that I am telling you go for AOC instead. Idk. Maybe Lotr is exactly what your looking for. the trial is 7 days btw.
I love this update~
