Well.... that's a little vague.  Weapons are good.  I recommend them.

Specifically try to get your weapons to a +3.. you can go higher, but it's all about the cost effectiveness of upgrading the current weapon or waiting for the next level (ie...a +3 Spirit Weapon good for low level, but if you take time to try for +5 or better...it might be cheaper in the long run to get a +3 Ocean weapon at lvl 15......)

Well I guess the safe number of + that you can add to your weapon is up to +3 then there is a high chance that the weapon will break. I haven't tried it though because I'm scared to + my weapon

Usually low level weapons are junk. They are not usually upgraded unless you need it to Power level your character.

Pain is temporary. Glory is forever.

Depends on how you want your party to end up. If you plan on hiring long range fighters, get the axe or sword but not the spear. If you plan on making a team of close range fighters, get a gun or a bow. But if you plan to mix it up early on, get a staff and be a healer.

Well, your mercenaries can't really use any other weapons other than those to which class they belong to, so you don't really have any choice on the matter of weapons. Just upgrade the weapons you have when possible. I believe upgraded weapons +2 are already stronger than non-upgraded weapons and armors of the next level.

Agreed. I save up equipment of the next level until I get two of them and then upgrade. That way they will be stronger than +2 of previous level. After all, +3 equipments are already very useful. And I don't upgrade to +4 unless i have spares. Then, crafting works for you.

Though its really weird when your character doesn't have any weapon and still it attacks using the weapon he's supposed to be using with an insanely low damage. Even the AoE kicks in. In other games, no weapons equipped means punching.

I don't know how your setup and formation is related to your weapons. Like what was already mentioned, the equipment in this game are fairly uniform for all classes. There are just three types: Melee, Long-range, and Magic. And weapons are fixed for all classes, which tends to give another sense of balance via uniformity of equipment.

I think some of you misinterpreted his post, I think he was asking what type of weapon to use on his main.

I'm using spear right now and I absolutely love it.  High damage, and it hits 2 enemies at once. I also seem to out-damage every other weapon type, except for axe.  Plus the spear attack animations are cool
