I will be getting my FFXI 2008 Edition in the mail any day now. I have played the FF series since FF7 was released on PSone.  I have never tried FFXI even though it´s old so i´m really exited about the game.

Any server suggestions or other advice for a beginner? I don´t want to play on a empty server. 

Your best bet is Asura or Odin.

Welcome to FFXI! I've also been playing the series since VII (though I've now played the older titles as well as new ones) and FFXI is definitely something different as far as FFs go.

Anywho, A friend and I just started the game again recently and we decided to roll on Asura, seeing as it's one of the two most popular servers (the other being Odin of course). I can't say much because I've only been around Bastok since playing on the server, but it seems nice enough. If you decide to make a character there, feel free to look me up! My character's name is Shamandalie. Regardless though, hope that you enjoy FFXI!

My advice is to be patient with the game if you're new to MMO's (idk if you are since you didn't say) it will take longer ot level than previous FF games , but if you're commited a great fun exprience awaits you.

 I have been playing this for a while now. This game is really good. Mature community and fun gameplay. I love the fact that there´s tons of content!

Took me while to learn the controls and explore the basics but it was worth it!

Tiny advice to people on the fence about trying this.
If you love the FF world and the console versions you will love FFXI i know atleast i do! 
If you never enjoyed  FF this might not be your cup of tea.

I'm probably going to get the trial within the week, hows the combat? What final fantasy game would you say the combat is like? It looked like Final Fantasy 7 except you don't wait for turns.

I think it reminds me of FFIX combat combined with FFXII allthough it was a long time ago i since i played FFIX. Anyhow, old FF players will feel right at home with this combat system=)

Hey i was just curious if theres a free trial avaliable. Ive never tried this game and would like to give it a week or two to see if it fits the bill for me.. However im not willing to pay for a game ive never tried. I looked all over the website and saw no mention of a trial, any info would be much welcomed...thanks

Every new account on FFXI gets 30 free days before the subscription fees kick in. While there's no way to buy the game that's completely free, you can get a "Starter Pack" for $2 at a lot of game stores, that give just the base game (no expansions). This won't last you in the long term (you'll get to a point where you need those expansions) but is good for getting a taste of the game before going $20 to buy the full Vana'diel Collection.

i mean i wanted to give the game a try but not that bad.

There is no downloadable trial, however they do have a cheap 5 dollar thing you can buy with just the FFXI game with no expansions you can buy, good thing about that is there is a whole month of gameplay on it instead of a couple weeks.
