I''m addicted to failing

I don't know if this thread has been made a million times over and i dont care to check, i'm voicing my opinion and here it is.

GwWiki has destroyed this once great game, this rediculously easy pure pvp based game. This game used to bring me so much enjoyment when i wasnt playing a real mmo, i could hop on for 20 minutes and literally enjoy 20 minutes of gameplay in a quick alliance battle or in some random battles, i'd be whatever crazy build i wanted, try new spike builds and such.

Now it's impossible to see a class/class that doesnt have the same build as everyother class/class, i'm sick of seeing me/mo WoH spammers and Ne/Me spike bombs, im sick of the same generic Rit/Me Spirit Spammer and im sick of the builds that used to be slightly unique to whoever created it, becoming so routine that the game isnt a challange, a group of warriors couldnt handle a random arena before, now with the right W/A build they cant be beat.

The game is basically a raid in any newage game now, you see your build, you know the routine, 2 minutes later, match done - i hate you GwWiki

IVE PLAYED WOW AND LIKED IT SO IM A FANBOI PLZ FLAME MY THREADS CUZ I MIGHT MENTION WOW

It's inevitable. It can't be blamed on GwWiki. Without it the word would still have spread around between people. Chances are we'd be seeing less of a variety of standard builds in fact, as everyone would be using a particular one they heard about.

Hopefully GW2 will somehow address this issue.

Behold! Rash of the Itch King comes in November! Quake in fear!

Would be cool if there wasn't a "best build" but that's very hard to do. However, as you said, it's key for diversity and especially in a PvP game. But people want to be the best they can be, and that includes having the best setup of their character. A website might've made it easier to find such information but I know that my friends would tell me something like that if I asked "what's the best _____ for ____ class?"

"Order or odor. I choose Order!"

That is one thing about item-based games that is "good." One's so worried about having the best gear that one doesn't notice generic builds.

Veni, Vedi, Vici.

I came, I saw, I conquered.

You'll have to forgive me for my ignorance but I played Guild Wars when it first came out and then never quite caught on with the other chapters so it's kind of just gathered dust now., i've been thinking on installing it again and getting the other chapters but I saw this thread and I have to ask what exactly is the Guild Wars wiki?

Has it really effected the game in a bad way?

Thanks

There are quite a few sites out there, such as

PvXWiki

which allows the community to upload builds and rate them. Through doing that a few builds start becoming very popular and overused until they're nerfed.

It sounds like you got this unique sin build that half the world runs and sudently you dont kill anymore.

I dont know, I still run unique builds and have tons of fun in ra. AB has never been a place for pvp, cause ppl there can be harvested too easily.

Anyways, real pvp is only GVG and all other forms are just for fun.

No, bad balance and ANet's negligence killed it.

You're shooting the proverbial messenger.

GwWiki isn't responsible for the bad game design that made a small number of builds more powerful than others.

Yeah, I'm going to have to go with the others on this.  It isn't wiki.  It's the fact that certain builds are so much better than others.  However, I will also have to say that it's way worse for certain classes than for others.  Also, you can be like me and just play whatever tyou feel like playing.

I have to agree.  I've looked at Guild Wiki and it didn't make me change anything about my build.  I've always used the trial and error method to find what works for me.

"There''s a time and a place for everything, and it''s called college." - Chef

The problem isn't, as said before, the various wikis but rather ANets and the balancing. A few set combinations become so much more better then other ones; and thus these are more commonly picked. To say that it's impossible to find different builds is however a overestimation of... epic proportions: both Alliance Battles and Random Arenas feature such a large amount of builds that vary between utter crap to almost working that it just makes me sad. I've seen everything from a Wammo with Word of Healing to a... Monk using sword attacks.

Apart from that there is also many new combinations to find that are good enough to become meta, but are yet to become it. A reason why I love HA is because you can run new (stupid) ideas; and in some cases actually see them perform quite well.
