    • Funcom: Staffing Cuts Won’t Affect ‘Age of Conan,’ Xbox 360 Version Still in Development

“Age of Conan” was released in May and the Xbox 360 version was slated for 2009."

Kinda puts it out blunty I think.

The reason why it shouldn't effect the 360 development is because it's cuts in the customer service and quality assurance departments, i've copy/pasted the section where they said it themselves.

The Norway-based developer of “Age of Conan” acknowledged the “staffing cuts,” which reportedly affected 70% of the U.S. branch in the Customer Service and Quality Assurance departments, as “part of our ongoing cost based efficiency and performance initiatives that are vital to any business.”

This in effect means that the customer services is gonna go from bad to abysmal.. in my view of things this means less support for the current players while they try to reach out to potentialy new players, yet again they're going from one extreme to the other instead of balancing things out like they should be doing. At this rate the next cuts will be the development sections and yes, the game will be cut or sold off in the end.

    • Few questions before i make a decision.
    • First off some background, I played SWG for 3 years and left about 4-6 months after the NGE went live. I've had "discussions" with current players and ex players alike sinse then. Due to the lack of complex MMOs these days i've been seriously considering a re-sub the SWG, but i have a few questions to ask first if CURRENT players would be willing to answer them honestly and without any hyping please.

      1. Is this new card scam that SOE introduced required to be competative?

      2. Whats the population like on Kauri?

      3. If Kauri population is too low could you tell me what the community is like on Chimeara please as i'm British and if i have to switch to a different server it would be Chimeara.

      4. Whats the economy like? when i left the game, crafters meant nothing as decay was obliterated and loot drops were better with the NGE.

As you can see i make no mention of the professions or ask which is best etc as i prefer trial and error myself to see which suits me, when i left the game i had a 90 Jedi, 90 BH, maxed out Shipwright and i believe was working on a Smuggler or Officer.

I thank you for taking to time to read this and would very much like to recieve decent input rather than have this thread turn into a flame war like 99% of the others. I'm serious about thinking to re-sub but i could do with these questions answered honestly from current players without any bias involved from anyone before i make my final decision.

      Well done OP.

no offense, but how is it even possible to "hate" a bunch of pixels?

thats a good point, i'll rephrase..   i'm not too keen on the gameplay and how things are done, my first ever MMO was SWG a long long time ago, so i'm kinda spoiled when it comes to wanting complex gameplay.. but as much as i'm not keen on WoW, it's success speaks for itself.

I don't blame SOE one bit for the TCG, it's a great idea and it's probably making them quite a bit more money than just the SWG subs were.

I don't see how they are accountable for the actions of those who play the game...  It's a weak attempt to blame SOE for the actions of the players.  SOE has done a hell of a lot of things wrong but the TCG isn't one of them.

Players are accountable to themselves.  SOE isn't forcing them to play the TCG.

You do make a good point, like many others here, about SOE not forcing people to take part, but your all missing the point, what your all saying is like saying that the national lottery doesn't force people to play, casinos don't force people to play, yet they're regulated because they're recognised as gambling, so why shouldn't this be regulated and actually advertised as gambling also? It requires real currency from the player in order to "BET" on a CHANCE of recieving something, this is what defines gambling no matter where or how it's employed.

Obviously, no one forces you to buy the cards. Im not really that interested in that aspect of it. There IS an element of self control involved, but the real issue here is that SOE is involved in an illegal lottery that needs to be regulated and made to comply with state, provinvial and international law.

      S

you gotta win something of value for it to be a lottery that needs regulation. . .

Yah, and as you have been told already, because these cards sell for real money and the items sell for real money, they have monetary value. SOE have made it difficult to pin this down, but its an illegal gambling operation, pure and simple.

      S

but you're not paying for the "cards" (which dont exist); you're paying for the entertainment. The same thing we all pay for in our monthly subscription.

Sharkypal m8, i think this is a lost argument, people are just too ignorant to the fact that it's quite literally gambling, even after i posted the definition of the word as it is in dictionaries earlier.

Jeez, you guys are unbelievable, only one person has said anything that means something so far and thats the guy that said you all need lives if you spend that amount of time gaming.. Fair enough gaming is enjoyable but the posters in this thread (and others like it) seriously need to get some perspective. I myself have done extreme hours of gaming and these days i wonder "what was it all for?" have a bleeding heart people, extreme gaming is harmful to your health. You say "pansy" "pussy" and other such things, i say poor sod. It's a sad thing when something like this happens and all you guys can do is call names and such? Tells me just how this world is turning out..

Don't you guys have lives? many would just quote to this post something along the lines of "/fail" i say your the ones that fail, fail at life so you hide away in your fantasy worlds, trying to ignore real life which is family, kids, jobs, bills etc. ANYONE who says they have a family and a job and can still play those amounts of hours need to take a damned hard look at their relationship and i mean the one with your partner not with your fantasy world.

flame away all you like but in the end, when something like this happens to you just remember how it'll turn out, no one will care, all you'll get is name called and abused for being a "pansy" cause you didn't make it long enough.

Next time your near a mirror, take a long hard look at your life, take a long hard look at those close to you and THINK if you have the brain capacity to do so.

Nothing says "I have a life.. hahaha" like the guy flaming others for laughing at a guy who couldn't hang for 20 hours.. Oh.. and I've never gamed for 20 hours.. I think the most I've done was 12.. and it was getting the mage armor in AC..   Over thanksgiving break in 2001..

and.. you've logged more hours playing CoD4 this week than I have.. lifetime..

That would be 1 hour then??  as thats my amount spent on CoD4 this week..  13 hours for CoD5, 7 hours for Fallout 3..  total of 21 hours spent gaming this week m8..  thats an average of 3 hours a day...  any other snide remarks?

      Yep..

You've gamed more this week than I have.  And you've logged more hours in CoD4 in the 13 months it's been out  to the 5/6th of the time I've logged in AC to the 9 years it's been out..   That is HILARIOUS.. don't you have a LIFE??

You take shots at people on message boards for making jokes about only being able to game for 20 hours.. and don't see the irony in your own life?

i fail to see what your point is here...  considering i spend no more than 3-4 hours a night in a game and more often than not it's not usually the same game for those 3-4 hours..  in fact you'll see that i've spent 474 hours total in CoD4 sinse i bought it on release, thats an average of 2-3 hours a night spent on it going by your 13 months released statement...

but all this is unimportant as i believe you have your wires crossed somewhere....  you said "You take shots at people on message boards for making jokes about only being able to game for 20 hours.." now me reading this makes me think that you think i'm having a go at people who CAN'T last 20 hours, i'm actually having a go at people with no life who spend upto and over that amount of time gaming without stopping.

As for my total amount of time gaming on my xfire profile, you'll notice in one of my other posts on this thread that i was one of those people who spent hours upon hours gaming before i "got a life" so i know the differences.

So.. you must have the right to judge others??  Because you've "changed your gaming habits" you have been elevated to "better"?   Wow.. someone needs to knock you off your Holier than thou pedestal..

Oh.. and here's perspective for you..

You've spend 20 days playing CoD4.. alone.  That's over the past 13 months.  Or.. 20 days out of the past 390 days.. spent.. playing just ONE game.

random_mage, you do realise that your defending the "20 hours!!   pffft pussy" lot don't you..  i aint better than anyone else, no one is, your completely missing the point and twisting things like every other jack does that enjoys argueing for the sake of it. you say i think i have the right to judge others yeah? i say what gives others the right to judge those that don't play extreme hours each day.

and as for your attempt at perspective well, if you think 20 days out of 390 is a lot then your barking and trying to assault the wrong person m8, those that play extreme hours such as these here posting that 20 hours = pussy, you think they play 20 days or less within a 390 day time period? you'll find they notch up over 200 i'm guessing. you wanna try attack someone for playing one game over a set period of time, try those that are actually defending extreme gaming and saying that people are pussies for not being able to last 20 hours or more. There's some perspective for you.
