What? I just saw this on a commercial. Wow... umm... really?
Does this game actually have a playerbase...? Seriously... and you actually are paying a monthly fee for this? I'm just looking at this and thinking, "Why the hell would I pay 15 bucks a month for this?".
Are people actually enjoying this game? I'm still shocked they actually attempted an online game for this. I mean, they were good movies, but... seriously, what the hell?

As much I thanks you for your review on the game I feel it a little biased by the fact you compare it too much to WoW and taking it as The Good Game.
Also without being fanboish WoW didn't brought much new to MMORPG so there's not many "different" styled MMO that work there way to fame.
Ah this has been brought up twice. The reason I compared it to WoW is because it has been clearly influenced by WoW. Everything about the game reminds me of WoW: different specs, classes, even some of the zones. I'm not going to sit here and compare to Eve or to EQ or something like that. And it bares little resemblance to DaoC so what am I going to use as a reference? I chose WoW because of that, I'm not a fanboy and I don't think World of Warcraft is the be all end all of MMOs. I was hoping I drove that point home with the bit at the end.
To say it plainly: I am not a WoW fanboy and only use it as a reference because WAR is so similar. That is all.
You might also want to mention that when most people write MMO reviews and make comparisons in them, very often it is with WoW. In this case, with what you mentioned, but more importantly, because almost everyone who has ever played an MMO has at least tried WoW. It's much easier for the reader that way because they can more easily understand the comparisons.
Thanks for your review. Tbh I think what was wrong with it and what made it feel so long is that you used too much description and covered very little. For the most part it was about dungeons, leveling, RvR, the main cities, and two of the classes. You could have summarized alot shorter and give the same jist while covering more content in the game and keeping your review at the same length. Not trying to make your review look bad or anything, just criticizing for improvements.
What I agreed with alot on was your general idea of the game and your idea on what MMOs should be... breaking the mold, not playing it safe and as you say, "riding off the success of World of Warcraft".
EDIT: Also want to mention... ugh, I hate having no death penalty. I mean really... for a pve game that isn't so bad. But this is about pvp. You need some sort of death penalty to help prevent (or keep control of) zergs. grah... I have a feeling this is just going to be a WoW with a new skin and lack of PvE (when WoW can offer both).

I'm either blind... or there's nothing there...
I've played countless other MMOs... and I'm playing two of them now... I've also been playing WAR beta... playing and playing actually, trying to find out what's all the fuss about.... is it the RvR ?
I'm sorry, but I can only say this: duh?
World PVP is what it's all about, and where WoW (an otherwise good game) falls completely flat on its face.
Sadly it used to be all about World PvP.
Thats the only thing I dont like about wow today,is the Instanced PvP battles.

WoW was never about World PvP. It was something you could do.. but sadly ignored. RvR is World PvP x 100. ;)
Today, WoW isn't about World PvP because it was butchered to pieces. It used to be about World PvP until they added in arenas. Now all people do is get instant epics and just play repetitive arena all day... not that it isn't fun, but it'd be nice if they actually revived world pvp in WoW (which is what they are attempting in WotLK). That's one of the biggest things I hate about WoW considering I'm an avid PvPer.
Basically what will make me stick with WoW or play with WAR will be if WoW's expansion is actually able to bring back world pvp. At this point with the game that seems impossible but one could hope. And even if I do end up playing WAR, it won't be for a long while as there are much better MMOs (or at least MMOs trying to break the mold instead of playing it safe) coming out soon after WAR's release ("soon" as in early-late 2009).
And no, I don't think WAR will be that amazing either. I really don't think anyone does since the only thing that can be bragged about this game that not many other games have is a great focus on RvR. Everything else has been done before, it's just going to be through a different collidoscope. Not that it can't be a great game or even become very popular (even though that's very unlikely), but it isn't going to completely change the face of how we see MMOs as we know it. I could imagine this game sticking with numbers similar to LOTRO's after a couple of months unless this game has some amazing pvp and whatever else they're trying to sell.

It'd be silly to try and ignore the fact these two franchises are going to be competing for the same customers. So let's not.
I fell for the hype on AoC. Ya I got owned. AoC was pretty boring.
I don't expect Warhammer to come out perfect and without bugs. I know it's going to be rocky at the start. Every MMO is.
My question is to the long time DAOC and Mythic players and those who have been beta testing.
Does this game have potential to beat WoW in an overall better gaming experience?
I was prepared to answer no until I read, "...in an overall better gaming experience?"
If it was left, "Does this game have potential to beat WoW..." I was prepared to write, "No." But, for the actual question, the answer is, "We don't know yet." Obviously, the game hasn't been released yet. Secondly, that's really more of a personal opinion on if you believe either WoW or WAR is a better gaming experience. It's personal taste... one or the other isn't going to outright steal all of it's customers because customers all have different mindsets.

FACT - War will make millions in a safe game design method with little risk to pull in some cash for profit of a company.
Seriously, do you blame them? Look at what happened to AoC trying something different. Now all people do is bash it. The only companies you will see release drastically reformed ideas will be indie companies, and most of them will fail on their journey to stardom.
AoC wasn't unsuccessful for the ideas that they had. In fact, many of their ideas turned out really great. People bash AoC because the company running it has been flat out lying about their game for the past 6 months (for the most part that's what people are angry about, at least).
I don't blame Mythic for going the safe route. I have no doubt in my mind that this game can become good. But that's about as far as it will get... "good" ("Good" and "Popular" are two different terms that both WoW has and WAR can achieve). A game can't become "great" without adding something new to the table. Sure, it's good for them to go safe in the long run. But bad for us. We need innovative companies or else the gaming industry will not evolve.
FACT - Very few game companies will ever have the balls to design a true innovative game NOT based on this safe WoW formula.
True innovation is hard to come by, you know it, I know it, and so does everyone else. Then you have the form of innovation in the minds of an idiot. Look at Brad McQuade for example.
I'd rather see a game fail for trying something new then a game become successful for not breaking the mold. And I'd be even happier if a game became successful for trying something new. Innovation is everywhere. It's a matter of if you use it and have a make or break chance or go with the safe WoW formula.
FACT - Big corporations can care less about you, or innovation, they care about $$$
Fact indeed, you will never change this. Corporations are out for there for your money and they always will be.
I think we all realize this, and it's not really a bad thing. Why else would the corporations be doing any of this if it weren't for $$$? It's like asking why do you do your job 10 hours a day? I don't care if they're making money from us, good for them. What matters to me is if they actually use that money to at least somewhat improve the game. It's really all a matter of how far a company shows that they care about the customer and their game as much as they care about the profit.
