Combo Combat in AoC without a doubt. Turned combat from an auto-attack and mash hotkey when ready to a more spontaneous have to pay attention combat. The combos really added the xtra variety to the gameplay.
To the above poster, capes weren't in at release due to technical limitations. Remember though that they added them in Issue 2, so it wasn't that long after release everyone got capes they been asking about. NCSoft really seems to listen to what their customers want and try to impliment what they can. Issue 13 is adding the Shield powersets that have been asked about for quite some time and the red-version of Empathy.
Voted NCSoft myself. Even after 4 years I still enjoy City of Heroes immensely, they support it well with the free content patches (Issues). Dungeon Runners is an enjoyable Diablo-ish free to play game. Of course then there is Guild Wars with the no-sub MMO philosophy.
I'd say Turbine would be my #2 choice.
If I had to pick my least favorite I'd say EA. They screwed up Motor City Online and didn't support Earth & Beyond. When they bought Mythic, DAoC has since stagnated and Imperator cancelled. WAR was released to mixed reviews, mostly due to population imbalances having not been addressed.
Well before That Other Game, 300k subs would be considered a stellar success. Before '04 having one million subs would of been considered unheard of. I've read articles that say to break even the average MMO needs 20-40k subs, this varies based off number of servers and the bandwidth provider the MMO uses.
That being said, CoX is right around the 175k range. It fluctuates like any MMO does, I've seen numbers as low as 125k and as high as 200k. You are right that it is a niche game with no real competition right now. Diehard comic fans and roleplayers really enjoy this game as the gameplay itself is parallel to those playstyles and expectations.
When Champions Online comes out, we shall see how this game fares.
Well villains had been asking for a red-side version of Empathy for a long time. This way they get a healing/buff set that will help more than just masterminds.
About shields, they are under the new weapon customization feature as well. Gonna see a lot of Capt America clones soon I'm sure.
What is your favorite of EVE's four major factions?
