Here I am, being cool and writing a blog entry so everyone can see my comments about current games and be awesome like so many others. Awesome to the MAX.
I was really looking forward to Gods and Heroes: Rome Rising as my next MMO to play while waiting for Warhammer: Age of Reckoning to finally be released. I want to play a Rome-based MMO that doesn't suck, but that doesn't look like it's gonna happen anytime soon. Unfortunately with G&H down the drain, there is nothing close to being released that actually looks as if it could be decent enough to keep my interest for several months. So now I am stuck with WoW for even longer... I enjoy having something to log into now and then, even if it gets boring after about ten minutes.
I beta tested Tabula Rasa recently, and I'll be damned if it wasn't the most boring thing I've played since the latest generic, Asian, Free2Play, isometrically-viewed grindfest that I downloaded because I was so bored waiting for a good game to come out that I would honestly waste my time on this crap and think it could possibly be good enough to retain my interest. But I digress.
Tabula Rasa is not the worst game out there, but the game play was incredibly boring and there was not much to it. I played a little bit passed the instanced intro area, and I knew this game wasn't for me. I believe it could be for a good amount of people, but it's lacking in the fun department in my opinion. It's not groundbreaking or anything, and I think everyone knows by now not to expect anything like that from this game, or any game for that matter. In any case, TR will definitely keep many people busy until some good games come out, but for those that think it sucks, well... then you're probably like me and not having luck finding fun in most games out there at the moment.
I am waiting for probably the same three MMO's as most other people to finally be released, and I can only hope that at least one of them lives up to the hype and becomes the next game I play for years. Here's to 2008 being the year of years for the MMORPG genre. I mean, it can't possibly suck as much as this year, right?
Currently waiting on:
- Warhammer: Age of Reckoning
- The Chronicles of Spellborn
- Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures
I don't get it. To me, Darkfall looks amazing and one of the better looking games in development. I don't understand how people think it looks bad.
Though characters do look a bit slow and stiff as they move around, that's my only complaint, but I'll wait and see how it plays out (if it plays out at all.)
In the early PQ's I've done, the bonus points you got did seem to be from how much you helped out. If I just strolled in at the end, I got none, but as I continued playing from there, it was constantly changing from 100-500 or whatever the range is. I knew myself as I went a long that I didn't do as good a job as other times, and would probably get less points, and I was always right.
On the other hand, one time I did walk into a PQ with like 7 people at it, attacked the boss in it a couple times, and ended up getting one of the green loot bags because my dice roll was so high, though my contribution was 0.
THIS WAS SAID: First, we have created an RvR Influence system. This system is designed to reward our oRvR players with lots of new stuff that you can only get through oRvR. This will be a complimentary system to our PQ Influence system. This system is already implemented in 1.1 and is scheduled to go LIVE along with that version in December.
MY THOUGHTS: PQ's will now be completely useless and a waste of time. I don't know why they even put PvE in the game, it should be entirely RvR, because there is nothing worthwhile to be doing in PvE that will receive better rewards and xp - or even on par - than RvR.
Whether or not it loses credibility, I'm not sure. All I know is, the game has been in development for so long, and people have hyped it up so much in their own minds that I doubt it can live up to their standards of what they think it will be like.
I can only imagine at the moment all of the hate threads here after the supposed release occurs.
LotRO has beautiful graphics. The landscapes are wonderful, though as others have said, the characters themselves not so much - not that they're terrible or anything, just not as great.
My main problem is that the gameplay is fun for a short while, but then it quickly becomes boring. Also, after the starting area, the amount of quests to be done is overwhelming. I would rather them lower the amount of quests and raise the xp rewarded from each, because it turns me off completely. WoW has a lot of quests, but they're spread out, and there aren't WAY too many in each area - and when you're in the area, for the most part, it doesn't keep running you around everywhere, it'll usually make you complete quests in an area, then move along to another, which I like.
I'd say if the combat was enhanced a bit more, and the quests were fewer, but of higher quality, this game would be better.
The epic storyline quests are too few and far between. My only draw to keep playing is to play through these instances, and that's just not enough.
How many players does an MMO need to be considered a success in today's market?
