Again I was just struck by the title of this thread. Why?
It seems to suggest that all veteran players are bent on having SWG close down. That is simply a very untrue overgeneralization. It paints veteran players as somehow the enemy of current players who want to just enjoy their game. It's divisive, and this game certainly doesn't need anything more to divide its playerbase.
Let me be clear that many, probably most, veteran players do not want to see current players lose their game. This is certainly the case with many vets whose posts I read here, and it's also true of my former SWG guildmates that keep in touch via our own forum. That's one reason I continue to be surprised at the animosity and spin-doctoring I see on these boards at times, by the way. In our guild forum, current and former players talk about SWG, WoW, CoH and other events all the time without trying to misrepresent each other, misrepresent any game, or vent hostility on one another. It just isn't necessary, or helpful in my view.
So what do most veteran players seem to want?
Well, many I interact with would really love to see important bugs fixed, especially those that SOE said they would fix, but haven't. Who wouldn't want that??
Many also want to see SOE respect ingame progress. They're tired of seeing their ingame accomplishments go by the wayside with new publishes, and they're tired of relearning the game. Who wouldn't want their progress to be respected??
Many also want to see SOE follow through on promises to address the low population servers. Who wouldn't want to see that??
Some would like classic servers because they really enjoyed the original format of the game. It might also feel that they were being given back something that was taken from them. I don't have a desire for this currently, but I recongize that others still do. Again, this seems quite resonable to me, and doesn't take anything away from current players at all.
For myself, I'd also still like to see some subscription refunds for those that were specifically misled by pre-NGE dev chats in Sept. and Oct. 05 that failed to mention anything about the NGE. Instead they promised things to specific professions (squad leader, ranger and creature handler) that either never materialized or only lasted for 12 days, specifically because of the NGE. This is simply a stand against false advertising. Is anyone in favour of false advertising??
So, the OP doesn't need to apologize to "vets" for the continuation of SWG. If apologies need to be made, and if fences need mending, this is not the best approach in my mind. The points listed above might suggest a more fruitful way forward.
As always, your posts are some of the best on these boards. You sir, are always a class act. I think that some however, do want the game taken away from those who currently enjoy it. I agree with you on all points about how SOE did terrible things and did not make proper amends. However, I think this particular OP is just frustrated by all the SWG is shutting down and other threads that litter these boards like a bad case of herpes that will just not go away.

I see Smed's grand plan of bringing in more and more rmt to soe's games has begun.
Yeah --- that is what he sees as the future of mmo's right?
I was always under the impression that once SOE was re-shuffled within SONY he would get shuffled out to somewhere else.
And someone made a comment about things being offensive. The truth is that MMORPG does not have an exclusive on offensive comments and neither do the official SWG forums.
But back to the topic at hand. These micro-transactions scare me a good bit. Not so much for SWG in particula but as a disturbing trend that seems to be trying to take root. I think a flat monthly fee should enable you to access all content in a game. These "extras" are pretty sad. And I do not care what game it is you play, if there is a game where you can pay real money to get a little edge--- you know there will be some people who will do it.
And if I want to play cards, that is what Friday night poker is for.
I am not overly thrilled with some of the decisions the development team has made lately. But I must say that the munitions update was great. I am really enjoying running around with my viable big honking rifle again!
I really think this game probably should just stop trying to fiddle with things like combat professions (I doubt they will ever get that right) and focus on things that allow the playerbase to customize their characters.
A classic server would be a great start :)
They should also really try to focus on things that let the players immerse themselves visually and not be so cookie cutter. As much as I hated everyone running around in comp armor pre-cu --- the jedi running around with the potato sacks on is equally annoying. I would love to see an appearance tab similar to LOTR implemented.
They should also address other non-combat issues that have been neglected since the train wreck of the NGE. Player cities were a great idea. Removing decay was a terrible decision. And I say bring back citywarn!
It is your city, if you do not like the look of someone, I think you should be able to flag them and let the militia "handle" it.
I am a bit confused. I thouhgt the OP was talking about Kettemoor, not Kauri?
Anyway, I am playing on Kett and having fun... if you want to give away your stuff OP, I will take it off your hands :)
Kettemoor is def a small server. But then again, I think it has one of the nicest little communities out there. And I have had toons on several servers...
I do not know if there is any real answer to the server populations. They say they are working on it. The thing is, I think they will just end up doing some kind of cross server instance, and that will not fix the problem.
I will be the first to admit that (especially at the hours I play) Kett is pretty empty. But I would take that handful over several hundred of the asshats I remember from the glory days of Bloodifn. Just my two cents.
The issue with Snorbals is that even from terms you cannot get anything less than level 50 on lok and it is a level 35.
Again, I posted a lot of these issues on the SWG forums because simply adjusting the level that is displayed when taking the quest could keep it simple.
And you are right I forgot ROTW came out right after the CU--- I remember liking the BH carbine...
So I revise my statement again. The NGE did screw up Kash by making quest xp and level descriptions inappropriate. :)
