So what do you prefer? A small self-publishing company, asking $20, or a big company charging $50? Well.. I'm saying big companies now, Guild Wars is only $20 from the online store too. :)

Edit; just want to point you to a good example, which I think deserves more players! Try looking up Saga, great game, indie, very original, and somewhat free to play. You'll have to pay $20 for the full game later though. :)

A self published game SHOULD always give away there "CLIENT" since they dont have money for advertising, word of mouth is the best way to gain new subscribers. No easier way to get people to try your product than by giving it away.

    • Op I agree 100%,  I started playing mmo's with a small independent game, it had bugs the graphics werent the best, but the features in that game were the best ive ever seen and I doubt ill ever experience a mmo where you can actually lose again.

After a few mmo's I made my jump to a mainstream mmo, it was polished and had beautiful graphics and detailed scenery, sure it was fun for awhile, but without the features the polish and beauty didnt hold up in long term enjoyment.

So now I find myself, looking forward to the really unique independent mmos again. I will try every game you listed and I hope they use the freedom of not having someone telling what they cant do to fully make a great game. Without these small budget independent mmos, the big companies would have nothing to steal from and we end up with the attack of the clone situations we have right now.

    • Why not just play a FPS?
    • OP, You must realize that mmo is hugely different than multiplayer. There are even huge server differences in just mmos. To me MMO's mean massive online words where even if you are not online they are still alive and changing.

Now if your statement would have read why mmorpg and not mmofps, it would hold alot more water.

I believe that mmofps will beat out mmorpg in subscription numbers in the future, but I also believe we will see more true genre bending hybrids. Meaning it may play like planetside, but it will have the economic depth of eve online, and the character customization of COH. The post earlier about savage is a good example of this, its a hybrid fps/rts/rpg and it does a very good job at it. Now eventually we will see games like that in mmos. Then the standard level, class, pve based mmorpgs will have some real competition.

Im not looking for the death of mmorpg im looking towards the future of mmofpsrtsrpg.

As for pvp vs pve, I would wonder why you want to pay 15 a month to play a mmo against a computer(pve). I want 1000 vs 1000 "total war" style epic pvp battles over bases guilds/clans DESIGN and BUILD. I dont want to whack a rat or a mole all day to get 10496 exp for I can level and pat myself on the back.

my guess: release 2010 if at all ^^

Considering they are using the unreal 3 engine I doubt it will look pre wow. (plus they have videos out)

Considering they recieved 50 million in funding (more than warhammer spent) I doubt it wont be released.

Who knows though anything is possible........hopefully though it will launch next year before xmas.
