Suddenly I hear the "locking sound" and rush to the computer to see what is happening. My Slasher is under fire but only for a few seconds. The aggressor (flying a Stabber cruiser) got wasted by the sentry guns before my Slasher started taking armor damage. Being a rookie pirate he had simply just tried his chance without knowing how hard it is to hit a scout frigate, even when it is standing still.
Great laughs for everybody. I scooped up the remains of his cruiser (including an exotic dancer) and flew to the station to hand it back to him. I have no use of those things anyhow, and I completely accept and respect the pirate profession in EVE, especially the solo and opportunistic kind which I have dabbled a bit with myself.
I wish I could have more experiences like this in other MMO's.
heh I was Autopiloting my untanked hauler through high-sec recently which I had named 'T2 Expanders" because I had several of the same type of hauler at one point on my ship. So I had eve minimized because I was reading some message boards while flying on autopilot when I hear the locking sound. I was kinda surprised since my AP route was all through high-sec, so I bring EVE back up to see a suicide ganker in a harbringer locking me up and attacking. He starts firing on me when he gets his lock and sicks his drones on me. I immediately punched my afterburner and after his first volley (which stripped my shields) he can't hit me anymore due to tracking issues, the only thing still hitting me were his drones but they weren't doing damage fast enough to kill me
A few seconds later he went pop. Unfortunately his hauler alt was sitting right beside him otherwise I would have gotten his fittings out of it. I still got a hell of a laugh though, ganker just wasted 40 million isk for nothing ![]()
There are a few poeple who think that buying their way to the top in EVE will mean they are untouchable. That mostly results in comedy killmails though.
As far as EVE GTC's go...they are a necessary evil. RMT companies will always be in MMO's, it's a given they are impossible to get rid of. What CCP has done by providing a controlled outlet for GTC sales is not only protect the ingame markets from mudflation, but actually reduce the market for illegal RMT isk sales.
Seriously anyone who thinks there is a way to eliminate all RMT from a MMO is delusional. Expect other MMO's to follow CCP's lead in the future.
I actually just saw a news update on steam for Quantum Rise. Eve is on sale for $9.99 right now through steam and you get a 21 day trial as well. Also any trials that are given through buddy keys are now 21 days as well.
Yeah I doubt that they will incorporate a ground game where you get out of your ship and take your pod pilot around in an fps enviroment. A capsuleer would never risk themselves like that. More than likely they will make the fps from the perspective of a grunt like bata said. They could still integrate it into the MMO somehow though. Possibly by having the results of the ground game apply to factional warfare or something.

Personally i don't think anyone gets this idea.
I played EvE for 4 years and yes...i agree that it's mainly Gankers that play it now.
If you have less than 20mil SP your a noob and are an open target.
The day's of jumping though gates without worrying your gonna be bubbled and ganked by those saying there just protecting there space is gone...!!!
The idea of a fresh start server is a good one....and one that could breathe fresh in o this stale game..
Basicly put...
1) start a character
2) Allow him to get up to10mil SP in ship, hauling and weapons.
3) Allow him to make enough ISK to buy a decent ship that he is caperble of defending himself (you all know this is not possible...but allow them to hope)
4) Once his Character has done all of the above he is thrown though a Wormhole in to the main server.
Now...Please tell me HOW this is a bad idea...???
Players moan about being ganked by someone with 40mil SP and been playing the game for 4 years...allow them to learn the ropes and give them a decent chance of defending them selfs for these attacks.
Those who think this is a bad idea are those who just want to rule with an Iron fist...Those who think this game is for hardcore players only and a game that newbies shouldn't be allowed to play.
These are players who don't want the game universe to expand because it means there need to cover more space to own it and defending it would be hard.
Poor them...!!!
We all know they don't stand a snowballs chance in hell...but it allows them hope...!!!
And what happens when those players emerge on the other side of the wormhole in the 'real' universe and get ganked cause they don't know the difference between high-sec and low-sec? The same thing will happen as happens now. They'll whine about it.
Not only that but you don't need 20 million SP to not be a noob anymore, or even 10 million. Anyone who's played the game for a few months is no longer a noob, unless they spend that first few months just mindlessly grinding missions and mining like a drone without actually using the time to learn the game. Then it wouldn't matter if they had 5 million SP or 500 million SP, they'll be a noob forever.
Would you rather see a game release pushed back a year or have the game release with a few bugs that will be fixed?
