  • I dont see what Blizzard are adding to WOW with this update, they need to add it to the fundamentals of the game not an area.

    I think this can be answered quite easily, a game where PvP is based on character level rather than player skill / character skill is always going to fail. It does not matter what Blizzard add, WOW is a tried and copied gameplay from the last generation of MMOs. Thankfully these will die soon.

    Can anyone really say that combat is good in WoW and EQand all the other clones like vanguard? No. The future is in FPSMMOs and I will be so glad when a proper one comes out (DarkFall). PlanetSide was the first and has been the real only one for so so long. Roma Victor is a nother good attempt but you need patients to get into it.

    There have been two hybrids - Age of Conan and Tabla Rasa. Both now FPS but a hybrid that work OK but not really enough player involved. WAR is just a joke and I can not believe people will accept another EQ clone. Seems they do though ...

    PvP is the main reason for an MMO when you think of it. Why PvE when there a other players? OK PvE together, that is something different. It adds such a human dimention to things, ie a real person not just thier level or skill.

    There is no major game out there apart from Roma Victor (not money unless you read the shite, I have never done so) and in beta DarkFall and perhaps EarthFall that offer this.

    This new offering from Blizzard is shite, as the basic game is shite in my opinion. Stop levels, make it player based not time and loot based.

  • IAmMMO that is exaclty what all MMO developers are doing these days, sticking to a tried and tested forumula.

    I had high hope for this game and AoC but they both follow the same old route. Go collect X amount of this, kill X, Kill X amount Y.

    It is very sad. That is why games like Roma Victor and Darkfall seem so appealing. They are sandbox, but we will have to see with DarkFall as it is not out yet.

    I would sacrifice graphics and stuff for sandbox MMOs anyday.

    Playing AoC makes me want to commit suicide after a while ...

  • Whilst you wait there is a game out called Roma Victor that has most of what Darfall offers in the way of no levels and the ways skills work.

    The combat is twitch based and it is historically accurate so no spells.

    I would recommend this game to would be Darkfall players as it has guild owned structures, full PvP, a bit of PvE and is a really atmospheric game once you get into it.

    You will need someone to help you to start with though as the learning curve is steep.

    If you are looking for a game that is like Darkfall in design then look no further. Do not expect great graphics or stability. Just take it as it is and you will love it, especially if you like the Roman age. It is set in Hadrians wall with Barbarians (northmen) vs the Romans. It is the most player based game since PlanetSide.

  • I had been away playing Age of Conan and then after doing yet another quest I finally said enough is enough of this shite excuse of a game, ok great graphics but no real PvP, no player skill, no sandbox.

    So I came back to RV and I have been loving it. It has the fear of Eve in that if you get killed you hard won stuff is going to be looted and you lose some hard earned skills. The atmosphere is great when it is dark and you are hunting or being hunted by wolves.

    All we need is more players, I see lots coming back. The new graphic backdrop is lovely as well.

    This game will do me until Darkfall. Perhaps longer.
