I'm referring to Blizzard's announcement awhile back looking for developers for a "Next Generation  MMORPG".  They have at length stated that it is not a WoW clone and in fact is very different from WoW.

The fanboy base for blizzard seems to want a Starcraft MMORPG.  Which would be WoW with 3 race models, and make the settings a futuristic environment with space-age equipment.  Oh, look a WoW clone.

My point is that Blizzard takes innovative development seriously and they intend to not make a WoW clone.  The next logical step in my opinion is the creation of a living world where the players participate in a story, where each individual has a unique story.  Oh hey, that sounds like CoS.

But whatever Blizzard does for it's next gen mmorpg, it's gonna have to be pretty badass and unique not to get labeled a WoW clone.

Look Blizzard is a very smart company.  They know their player base and they know what that player base demands/wants.   If we have learned anything from Blizzard is they are great at making the perfect game for their player base.

Blizzard will not step away from the WoW mold, not far enough away.  They are too smart to break their own money making mold.

CoS is going to force the "Old School" gamers to change how they think of "Questing" and "Grouping" in MMORPGs.  Read the post on their website under "Tour"  and you will understand what I mean.

I look forward to blizzards next gen MMO as well, the problem is that every time we hear "Next Gen" and "MMO" in the same sentence, it never works out in the end.   Signed Vanguard, Dark and Light and AoC and many more.

Blizzard has its market, they are smart enough to know what thier market demands and knows not to wonder to far away from the money pit it created.

Look I played WoW.  WoW is a good game for what it is.  Make no mistake about it, WoW set the new bar for MMOs in the publishers eyes and they want to find the next "WoW".

We as gamers know that the next "WoW" is not going to be anything like the last "WoW".  Look at the last #1 MMO.   Everquest.  Everquest was the MMO that set the bar in the beginning.  Then WoW came along and set the new bar.  Now some of you will say that WoW is a EQ1 clone but its not.  They are different games with a few things in common.

It looks quite interesting; though some of the UI concepts look like it was stolen from other games (one is exactly like WoW and one features a top bar similar to titan panel). I'm surprised they're closing the team down, they're going to release a game that will be at least a bit successful and could have introduced microsoft to the MMO genre.

Mircrosoft wants to join the MMo genre as a publisher more then a developer, atleast that is what it seems from the outside looking in.

So for people wating for a new EQ, DF is a big failure, even on paper.  But for people that are interested in clan warfare, both on land and on sea with FFAPvP.....Darkfall could be a real winner!

Thats not true Daarco, I am waiting on Darkfall and EQ1 was the best MMORPG I have ever played.  I am your typical EQ1 audience and Darkfall looks amazing to me.

Excellent point. Since they do in fact show it, and fishing, they didn't skip it because it's a "PvP video", because they were concentrating on the "core" of the game, or they were only showing "exciting" parts, or whatever. Seems they may have given an in-depth view of a very shallow "feature".

      What do you not understand?

They were not concentrating on the "core" of the game, they were showing what the Fans of Darkfall asked them to show us per the offical Forums over at Darkfallonline.com.   We wanted to see the large PvP battles, Ship battles, Siege battles and player cities.  The Developers gave their fans what they asked for and included some of the "other" things like UI/crafting/PvE and the Landscape.

I am sure if you go to the main forums you will see people asking to other parts of the game and I am sure that the Developers will release another video that will please the Darkfall Fans.

I don't understand if crafting is recipe based, and if so, how to get recipes. I don't understand how many trade skills there are. What resource gathering skills there are. What crafting skills there are. How many crafting or resource gathering skills one player can realistically maintain. Whether trade skills are branching. If crafting skills are leveled, and if so how. Is construction a skill? Is shipbuilding a skill? Is there a central trading system? Is it an auction system? Are there clan banks? Are there POH's? If there are POH's, what do they look like? Are there interiors? There's many other basic questions left unanswered.

I would not expect they answer everyone's every question. But their answer amounts to "it exists, in some form or other". Is that because it's not in the game except "in some form or other", or just because they slack-assed about making a comprehensive video?

Well if you did any kind of research on the main forums you would understand that nobody knows what skills or spells are in game and we will not know about them till the game is released.

The Developers are not going to give us a list of spells or skills or crafting recipes.  This is all stuff they want the players to learn for themself once they play the game.  Again this is all said in the Developer logs and the Q&A sessions.

The Video was made to show different aspects of Darkfall, they showed mostly what the fans on the main forum asked to see.  The other stuff you will see once beta is released or they make another video.

The current Developer team for Darkfall is a small group, they dont have the time or the money to have a big PR hype machine like other games.   We will not see alot of the "Features" until we get to play the game.

I love that they will not provide us a list of spells or skills.  I think its the better way to go, force the players to talk to each other to discover what skills and spells everyone found.   I can see the first 3 to 4 months being nothing but huge debates on the main forum about which spells and skills to use and watching some players asking how to get X spell or Skill.   I love how they are going to make the players discover stuff on their own.... NO MORE HAND HOLDING.

If you cant get over the fact that the Developers choose to show what the fans asked for and understand that the developers took time away from developing the game to make that video and cannot get pass the fact it didn't show YOU everything YOU required, then too bad for you.
