Latest Blog Entry - The Fun Battle System
From my blog My mmorpg idea [Vapiant]

Hi, in my last/first blog entry I talked about a simple battle system and a advanced NPC system, and described the NPC system. So now Im gonna tell ya about the battle system :D

many like counter strike (or othere games like that) because you easy control your charrecters movement and actions, so I thought of putting that into a MMORPG (not a gun mmo) because many all so like MMORPGs, anyway here it is.

Attacking
Attacking should ofcause be with the mouse because its easy to target with it ... But it only got 2 buttoms. So you will need to change weapon or combat style with example "Q" and "E".
Skills should still be maked with the numbers or the "F" things, but maybe needed to be done fast or with tactic, I really want a game where you could make a tactic battle like in the ninja manga Naruto, that would make a game fun.

Movement
Ofcause W,A,S,D and space Im not sure about if it should be like pushing "W" you move in the direction of your cursor or like just move up and then you can look in anothere direction but I think that would be hard works better with a Joystick. But actually I have been thinking if a game would be easyer to control your char if you saw it from an angle high up above your char, like in old RPG gameboy games and then your attacks would be in the direction of your cursor ...
Ofcause the game is gonna be fast, you die after 3 - 10 hits and your charecter can make very fast moves so you can avoid the attacks. To make it even more action, it could be with slashing up/down/. Up  throws the opponent up in the air and down tackles him, but that there where you gonna use a joystick.

more will come I just need to think more about the things its a little advanced when im gonna put action and rpg togethere and its gonna be for computer, you can buy a joystick for the pc, but a game wouldnt be popular if you needed a joystick.

when I say joystick I mean gamepad :D

FYI research is 2 hours of reading stuff on a  lot of  different web sites.

third rule, I brought a sword, but did not equip the sword to my hand when I am searching for something to kill because the sword will deterioate to fast.

fourth rule ,Equip the sword when you see the monster that is within the second circle in the radar to kill it.

Fifth rule, do not turn off the ads in EU .I got 10 ped off a creature.

FYI I am not telling you what  creature  I killed  that gave me a loot  that is worth 10 ped.

FYI , i am not going to tell you what the  loot  is ,that is  worth 10 ped.

FYI , today I sold the 10 ped loot and repair my sword one time.

      I am not joking .

oh lol but  some hours a day is still long time, you need to be on for at least 2 hours in FFXI when you want to lv, so to me it seems to be long time, and as an example you use about 2 hours getting from lv 15 to 16. In games like WoW it max takes half an hour, so that way you need to use more time on it.

      Final Fantasy XI
    • To newbs or haters of FFXI heres some facts!
    • Many people that try FFXI quit fast and write here all the bad things about this game, when they barely have tryid the game.

They say it got horible controls, but have they maybe tryid look up if you could change the controls? No they have not! You can change it to the "normal mmorpg controls" (WASD movement, space to chat, nrbers for the macro which is costom able and then ALOT of shortcuts for allmost evry thing which also can be set or edited) My opinion is that FFXI controls are the best I've seen. It makes good use of the keyboard and it got alot to use it to!

Next is that many dont like it got so slow battles, well that brings me to that FFXI is a game that takes ALOT of time, and NO it cant be slower because at lv the higher lvs it takes 5 - 30 secs killing a mob. So the thing is that you just shouldnt get scared of this being a borring battle system, it would be very hard of it where faster.

You cant stand the graphics? Well that must be that SE are trying to give the game a image, that gameplay are more important than good graphics. Yes it is different from SEs newest movies and games. They obviously would make better graphics if they wanted to, you know SE for making some of the best graphics.

You probably dont understand why you have to pay for each charecter (dont be afraid its 12.95 $ for the first char and then + 1 $ for each extra charracter) The reason why must be that SE dont want the game to be filled up with charracters, that are created for no reason, anothere thing is that you more or less put some sole in to the charracter and not just try to make the best, thats definately what SE wants, anyway I've never been sad about the price because it is definately worth it.

So what last is that it is a hard game to start and the start of it is the worst, if this wasnt my first mmo then I wouldnt like it eithere, I didnt think that it was so different from all othere mmos, so I kept playing until, I some lucky day as a lv 14 Warrior got invited for my first party in valkurm dunes. From that day Final Fantasy XI were the best game I ever have been playing! (and many have said that) I were up all night evry weekend playing 8 - 10 hours straight.

Well alot about lvling but thats what seems hard in the start, but the harder thing is more likely the "Econemy" equipment, spells and buffing food. to get equipment and/or spells you have to buy them from players(auction house) or npcs(if you can get it from an npc) or you can quest the equipment or armor, which is needed for many armors. Well you cant live on questing evrything you will need money to, that can you get from:

Crafting - Making equipment or othere stuff you can sell, but theres a lv for that to and that is very very hard to get up.

Fishing - You obviously fish, the fish game is kinda cool and fun, so it aint borring to fish. But theres a fishing lv, which for me easyer came up than crafting.

Farming - Definately my favorit way to get money, the only thing you have to do is leveling your charracters theif  lv to 15, put theif as a support job, then find a item that drops from a monster you can kill, run out to where the monster is kill it until you get that item and sell the item at the auction house. Of cause you have to find out if the weapon is good selling.
Anothere thing about theif is gilfinding(gil=money) which you can use at lower lvs(because you have to be at least lv 30 to start farming, support jobs becomes half the lv of the main job example: If you have WAR lv 6 and THF lv 20, then if main job is THF you are THF 20 / WAR 6 and WAR main WAR 6 / THF 3) So if you as I have had problems with gil at lv 20 then you can lv up your THF to lv atleast 5 and then support it to the main run out to an area where theres a lot of Goblins, Quadavs, Orcs or Yagudo (monsters that drop gil) find these at a lower lv than you then start killing them. As an example I got about 100 gil for 3 of em and thats pretty good because  they died in no time, and actually they filled up my inventory with useable and sellable items all the time, so I got money from that to.

Before I go back to lvling I will say that FFXI have the best community, I really love it, its so nice sitting and chatting, you do that alot in FFXI and you have the time to it. Anothere thing is getting help, its incredible how helpfull we are in this game I like to be that and evryone is in this game, believe me you will need help, even if somebody are lvling his charracter, he maybe would give up hes party and go help you, people in FFXI are very friendly. I once met a guy that where unfriendly, he kept complaint about the party, but he was the one that fault the party kept dying I saved hes ass so many times, because Final Fantasy charracters are always big heros, so I always make my charracter have a hero personality lol. anyway in FFXI you dont useally throw out a party member, so it ended up he called us noobs and left, but hes the only one of hes kind a met.

Lvling your charracter in FFXI is hard at the beginning, but when you come to lv 15 it actually get a little easyer, it took really long time for me getting from lv 10 to lv 15 but when I got in partys with 15+ it took like 2 days and I were lv 18, now you gotta make a quest we call support job quest more about that will come later. Then you go back to one of the main towns bastok, sand o'ria or windurst. Here you change you jobs because now you got support job or second job, so you of cause will have to find out how you want to combine your jobs, you can combine it at anyway you want to, but theres some combinations that are almost useless.

Class facts and  Class combinations of the normal jobs
(there are advanced jobs that you can unlock at lv 30)
(support jobs shall be lvled up to atleast half of the main jobs lv, a support job doesnt get exp, so you will have to lv it up to maybe the same lv of your main job)

There are 6 normal jobs: Warrior, Theif, Munk, Red Mage, White Mage and Black Mage.
Normally players start with Warrior, and that is definately okay to do that because Warrior is very easy to play as, and they are the best support job for many classes. The Warrior damage okay and can also tank and they are used as tanks many times, well to make the Warrior stronger in what it is best to then you should be munk as its support job, and Munk is very fun to lv up. Munks have high HP and are dealing good damage but haves a low defence, Warriors have middle HP, deals middle damage and haves a high defence, so it is obvious that it will be a good combination. You cant really support with theif because theif are very different from warrior, it gives some few stat plusses, but it aint worth it. Some use White Mage as support, because they then can heal them self, it seem to work pretty good because Healing keeps hate(the player in a party who haves the highest hate will get attacked by the monster)
Red Mage and Black Mage are useless when they are supped to Warrior.

White Mages are the most Important Job in the game, because they are the best healers and a party with out a Whte Mage wont be able to kill the harder monsters, so if you want a job that get party easily then pick White Mage, but it is a anoing job because of the first 10 lvs where you have to solo and they suck at soloing. Actually I dont know much about em, there best support is Black Mage because of the MP boost but they dont need anything else.

The last job I will talk about is Red Mage which is really fun to play as, Red Mage are the combination of White Mage and Black Mage, but they uses spells that weakens the monsters or thats what they do best, they are also good using sword so they can attack from close distance in a party, as a Red Mage you will be second healer or damage dealer, always supped with White mage or Black mage.

Not finished yet, I will be happy for a reply or maybe othere FFXI players opinions, this is also just my thoughts and opininons :) but I'll take a break If any got something they think I should add then say, I will then add it here cya later.
