Now this thread is not intended to try to sell people on LOTRO but to discuss that this shows that it does not have to take a budget of a small country to put out a good product in the MMO industry.
Im not here to put any company down but i believe that this does show its the dedication to the product in making a fun game first higher priority than if it will make tons of money. Not saying profit is not on the mind of these people and i know they want it to be a success by all means. But clearly shows they are asking " Is this fun?", first.
I do not dispute the fact that Mines of Moria is a good expansion even if I have no personal experience on that, but saying that Turbine, holding 2 MAJOR licenses like Dungeons & Dragons and Lord of the Rings Online is LOW BUDGET is just plain wrong.
They are mantaining 3 MMOs at the same time, low budget how exactly??
I guess the OP strategy is saying the same thing over and over and over again.
Well, news flash! you can say it as many times as you want, but that does not make it any truer. I could not care less if WAR PvE or WoW PvE is "harder". It is a game, I tried WAR for one month and half and now I am playing WoW again...
Sorry, the WoW pve is way more fun and satisfying than WAR, period. end of story.

Blizzard has announced that second of World of Warcraft expansion Wrath of the Lich King racked up 2.8 million sales worldwide in its first 24 hours on release.
This makes it the fastest-selling PC game ever released. It also keeps the title in the family; the previous record-holder was first WOW expansion The Burning Crusade, which managed 2.4 million in one day in January last year.
Most of those 2.8 million sales will have come from North America and Europe, although Lich King benefited from the addition of Chile, Argentina and Russia to Blizzard's domain. Australasia and south-east Asia got the expansion a day or two later, and China's still waiting.
World of Warcraft has 11 million players worldwide now, versus the 8 million it had when Burning Crusade launched - so in terms of sell-through to subscribers, Lich King performed fractionally less well than its predecessor.
The 3.5 million copies Burning Crusade sold in its first month will be the next of its own records Blizzard is looking to beat. One analyst has predicted that Lich King could net 5 million in the same period, according to Gamasutra.
Im sure its been said but Ill say it again. Its not the fastest selling PC game, Its may be the fastest selling expansion. I wouldn't concider WOTLK a game all buy its self cuz you cant go out and buy it and play it without having the others installed so its not really a game, its just part of one. Not to rain on anyones parade or anything, Its is impressive though that it sold that many in that amount of time.

nope, sorry. FASTEST SELLING PC GAME of all times. Not expansion, game. no other sold so much in a day. The previous holder of the title was Burning Crusade so they know what they are talking about.
what it is NOT is the Fastest Selling GAME of all times. With the console market bigger than the PC by a 10:1 factor, WotLK is not that. GTA IV is that with 3.6 millions sold in a day.
However, as far as pc games go, 2.8 in a day is incredible.
to others: Blizzard is part of Vivendi, a public traded company that publish quarterly results. such results are puclic, anyone can go check them out and they MUST be authentic facts. so the 11 millions subscriptions is a real number and DOES NOT include trials or cancelled subscriptions. It of course count those players that own multiple accounts as it is higly impossible to verify who owns what. Beside, dual or triple boxing is nothing new and EVERYONE of wow's competitors counts subscribers in the SAME EXACT way, so counting dual boxer as 2 subscription.... and why shouldn't they? the guy is paying double.
I would wish people would stop to be so blindly negative about the numbers, just check the servers, there are hundreds, several hundreds, more than any other mmorpg around and 22 new servers opened, do you think Blizzard would open up new servers if not needed and so spend more money on maintenance? nu-uh, companies all work on the same principle, spend the least possiblt to achieve the best possible result. Opening up servers for nothing is not something any company would do.
Then again, if you want to delude yourself for some reason about WoW not being as big as it is, well go ahead, I do not see the point, no one is making you play the damn thing, so stop whining about the numbers and go play what you like.

So my whole point of view is Soloing is needed for games however Grouping should be more rewarding than Soloing simply because it takes time and effort to get a group going where as a soloer can just jump in game and get going right away.
Right now in MMOs grouping isn't even rewarding sure you can do it for sh!ts and giggles but in reality you are punished for grouping up with others even in a duo. Here is a little story from WoW to back up my claim ...
So my cousin and I (Paladin and Warlock) decided we wanted to do a dungeon, tackle some tougher mobs get away from questing and maybe get some loot. we were both level 25 and decide to hit up razorfen kraul. My wife(Shaman) who usually plays with us wanted to finish up some quests she had gotten so she didnt join us (she is also 25).
so we get to Razorfen and notice a lot of the mobs are 26s and 27s ... pull one to test out how it goes and we kill it, sure it took a bit of time but we did it without too much trouble. We got 236 xp for it, we keep killing and we get about the same exp for each one anywhere from 206 to 236xp.
in my downtime, and there was a good amount of it i watched my wife play she would kill a solo mob level 26-27s and get 216 xp for them. I was just stupified at what i was seeing ....
she was able to get 20 less xp than my cousin and I, while being able to kill them faster and take on many more at the same time. in fact in the time it would take us to kill one. she would be able to kill 2-3 ... so in essence she was nearly getting double or triple the xp we were in the dungeon FIGHTING ELITES. And not only that she got done with her "kill X amount of mobs" she got 3000 xp for the turn in.
but at least we got to kill a boss that dropped a blue item ... that neither of us could use, and that bound on pick up so we couldnt even sell it.
now i know what your saying "bring some more dps" but if we had invited another DPSer/healer we probably would have gotten 100+ xp per kill and probably still kill slower than my wife solo.
this is the problem I have with the genre right now, to be that in utter nonsense, were tackling tougher content and she gets rewarded for not grouping and staying away from dungeons. And i doubt you soloers out there will see an issue with this.
First of all, sounds very strange to me that a level 26 normal mob gives 200 xp to a level 25 character.... UNLESS the character has RESTED XP.
Then yes. The normal mob gain is around 100-120 xp, double that if rested.
So if your problem is that your wife was getting about same xp for her kills in her rested xp time and you weren't in your normal xp time, then yeah, that is true.... but you should try doing the same when either both of you are rested or no one is, even if she was not rested (who remembers the gains for mobs and now they have been changed as well..)->
Second, Elite mobs are quite though. as a Duo, even lower level than the dungeon, you will have a really hard time there as you found out. Try to do some of the quests your wife was doing and you will find out that A) you kill mobs really faster and B) you complete the quests faster too... with the exception of the collecting quest in which case you should end the quest a bit faster but not so much as for other types.
Third, Boss mobs give you more experience than normal Elite mob, so you should tell us how much xp you got from killing the old crone.
Fourth: WoW has a grouping bonus for groups that are 3+ members, so you could not get that, but if you would had a bigger group, you would have got a better xp rating than just the final xp count divided by the group numbers.
In the end, you should not really go to an instance higher level than you are with just 2 guys and expect to do fast progress cause you won't. Instances are designed for groups of 5 and that is when you get the most out of them. Doing an instance as a Duo is doable, but it is usually reserved for bragging rights or for roleplaying purposes or if there is really no one else around.

I'm glad to say my former addiction hasn't been renewed by the recent expansion. It truely is more of the same old shi-
Like, really, have they lost their innovation or something? The only aspect I like about the xpac is inscription.
ok... so you want to tell me that aerial PVP dogfights are not innovative? what other mmo has them? SWG in jump to light year expansion? not the same thing at all!
You want to tell me that phasing technology is not innovative? yes LOTRO had something similar, but not even near this seamless and consistent
You want to tell me that riding siege engines, frost dragons and the like in FPS style (cause you have to physically avoid the arrows to not take damage) is not innovative? Yes, planetside prolly had something similar, but that is a scifi mmofps game, this is a fantasy mmorpg.
Not to mention all the rest that was so greatly changed.... heck, the classess all feel new!
So, yes, if you want to really really nitpick, each of the new features were used in some game in the history of gaming, but NO GAME EVER had them ALL together and in such a good way as WoW has.
In your opinion, what kind of gamer are you?
