Biography

I’m a career IT Professional with Premier Computer Services / Software Systems, Inc. My specialty includes, but is not limited to, PC performance methodologies. I’m always up to the task of helping others, so if you have any questions… feel free to ask. I have been playing video games ever since I was 4 years old (I played Atari). I have BETA tested many games including FFXI via the imported JP version. I played FFXI for over 2.5 years and learned a lot from that experience. I haven’t found a game yet that can hold my interest, but there is one that I feel will win me over… Aion. I consider myself a disciple and hardcore promoter of Aion. I promote Aion all over my local city any time I walk into a local EB, Gamestop, or any fellow gamer I should meet.

    • Aion is not a next gen MMO
    • NEXT gen is a term used by companies to say thier bringing something new to the table, at least thats what every 1 thinks. Next gen is actually an idea or concept that has the potential to change the way people look at a game. remember reading choose your own adventure books as a kid? someone decided " hey, i want to add that to my video game. i want people to choose whether they want to be good or bad". include a popular franchise and a powerful system, like xbox, and BOOM! youve got knights of the old republic. that game was next gen, in the sence that it took an idea thats been around for a while, and did it better than people thought possible. same thing with WoW, it simply took ideas that were already out there, and made them better.

AoC was something fresh. the combo system along with the fatalaties was cool (the idea was not new to the gaming industry, but it was fairly new to the mmo world). it could be considered next gen, but the game was just lacking in several departments, thus making it uniteresting.

AION has the potential to be next gen, if they can pull through with the flying aspect of thier game. if Aion's flight system, including mid air combat, is better than any game befor it, it can be considered next gen. there might not be any new ideas in the game, but there arent really to many new ideas that you can add to a game that hasnt been tried befor.

I agree with you 110% my friend. I'm one of the few lucky Americans who actually had the chance to play in the Korean Open Beta and I can attest that AION fits the defonition you just gave.

Every particular aspect of the game that was not "new" to the genre was in one way shape or form done at minimum "slightly better". The storyline and quest progression were masterfully done in a way I have not seen in well... forever. The flight system is also is something that will mark the turning of a new page in MMO combat. NCsoft did it the way it should be done in my opinion.

To the OP... I'm sorry bud... but "progressive free-for-all/skill based" mmorpg was tried just recently. Perhaps you may remember it... it's name was Fury. It died a most miserable and painful death.

I found myself bypassing the path/road by jumping off a cliff and gliding to my grinding spot, that alone cut the walk time way down.

Yeah same lol. Although I did die once on accident because I miss-judged the distance from one cliff to the one below.

    • My impressions from Open Beta so far...
    • I would have to agree with you Stay... I had loads of fun in KOBT. My overall expectations were far exceeded. Which is saying a lot due to everything being in Korean. Although the english patch did help a bit... well.. made it more tolerable anyway.

    • Scenario Queues - Idea
    • I really like that idea.

I also had an idea of my own the other day. I think it would be a wise implimentation on Mythic's part to allow people to join any scen que from anywhere as long as the meet the following criteria.

1: User must have visited the Scenario at least once in the disignated realm.

2: User must be of appropriate Rank.

Can't tell you how annoying it is to have to group up with someone in T2 when you are doing quests in T3 just to get qued up for Stonetroll Crossing.

I think that with Mythic adding this implimentation you would get a lot of happy campers out there.

      WAR (Warhammer Online)
    • they've got a whole lot of work to do on this game.
    • Honestly, there is much work to be done. I have been around mmo's pretty much since the dawn.  I have also been around many many many mmo betas. All in all I feel that WAR had a great launch. However, there are many many many subtlties in the game where you can tell, if you have a trained eye, that Mythic pushed and pushed to get WAR "out the door".

Some stuff such as the "renown skills" are buged. Inccorrect weapon/armor models/names; as well as duplicates of everything used as placeholders until they can get the new stuff made and patched in. Mythic took a lot of shortcuts... that much is obvious to those of us with a trained eye.

Now, one thing I will admit. WAR is a hell of a lot of fun and I'm rather enjoying my stent with it. They shouldn't have pushed WAR out the door quite so soon.. but they did and it's done. Now they just need to fix what needs fixing and finish what all needs finished.
