OMG, the only thing the offline career business does is allow players to earn a little extra income when not logged into the game.
You can't advance dick skill wise through it. All you can do is earn more "job experience" to climb up to the next income bracket of offline income earning.
Man, people need to just... not make stupid topics because they can't figure out how to find and read text on websites.
Originally posted by SheistaDid you even read my latest post? I gave a number of reasons why this just plain -wouldn't- work.
People subscribe to the game right now because they like it. If you're subscribed to it and don't even like the way it works, then your opinion doesn't matter to CCP. CCP doesn't cater to people like you. They cater to those who play their game because they like it.. not because it's the only sandbox on the market. As I said before.. and I'll repeat it again. CCP doesn't want a blockbuster. They're not Blizzard. They don't cater to the masses. They have a vision for a game, and they will achieve that vision no matter what. They -will not- change it for mass appeal. They've made that more than clear by now. The only thing they -will- do, is make it more easily accessible to new players.. IE - lessen how harsh the new player experience is.
It's not carebearish. It's called liking what's already on the table. Some of us -like- EVE's combat. It's a thinking game, and not a twitch based FPS. I wouldn't play it if it was. It already has one of the harshest death penalties out there in any MMO, and even harsher PvP. You have to plan ahead if you're going out, and there is more than enough proof out there that skillpoints don't matter as much as player experience does in this game. Proper loadouts and knowledge of the game will nearly always beat the person with more money and SP. That's the game's combat.. if you don't like it, then don't play. Nobody is forcing you, just because it's the 'only' sandbox.
Go wait for Darkfall if you want another sandbox.
Edit: Honestly, the main reason this makes me angry, is that it is a change that forces a playstyle on people. I hate when people complain and think a game needs to be changed. It's that sort of talk that ruined SWG, and ruins so many other things in games. People complaining, and then ruining the game for the people who play it because they like it the way it is.
Luckily, CCP doesn't give in to whining.
1. LOL. The only reason you think it "won't work" is because you don't want it "to work." All you gave were a bunch reasons why you find it personally unnecessary and offensive. Like I care about your opinion or what you think of EVE. LOL.
2. Yeah, it's carebearish. Sorry, mate.
3. Wow, thanks for that wonderful summary of EVE. I really needed you to explain the most basic tenants of EVE because I've only been playing it for 2.5 years. WTF do I know? You're the expert.
4. Darkfall is vapor and I hate fantasy. And if you possessed the ability to read my post, like all of the way to end, rather than read the first two sentences and type a huge post which makes me so want just quote it and reply, "CMN!" you'd have seen like this link to this game currently in development. It's right in my sig. See it? I mean, it even says "Looking for a sci-fi sandbox?" right before the link.
5. Oh, so now we're comparing posts like I just made to what caused the NGE. Okay. Well, if you think posts like the one I just made was what the NGE was predicated upon you need to stop talking about SWG and the NGE because you've proven your ignorance making a ridiculous associative fallacy which isn't remotely grounded in fact.
6. CMN! That was satisfying....
Thanks!

If EVE ever added a ground combat portion and extended that into space (marines docking with enemy ships and capturing/destroying them from the inside out) and the combat didn't suck I'd go back in a heart beat.
As it stands though combat and travel in EVE are rather poorly done, IMO. Particularly the combat.
I would actually not like if the ground game interfered with the space game. I believe they should keep these two parts completely seperate, while still having influence over the other. IE - what happens can affect the others. But I don't feel they should ever implement a mechanic which completely interferes with the portion of the game that's already there. That's why they were so careful about Ambulation. You can either take part in it, or you can't. It won't matter either way, and won't affect the people who don't take part.
If they allowed the ground game to interfere with the space game, I think a LOT of people would be mad, as a good majority of players -live- for the space game and would want nothing more.
If what you say is true than EVE won't dominate the Sci Fi market for another 10 years. If EVE wants to expand it's market Space combat only ain't gonna cut it. I thought EVE was pretty but it was slow plodding to me. Planet exploration & combat coupled with what the game is now would be huge!!
That's not what I said. I said they could -create- a ground game. Keep the games combined. IE - EVE has both a space game, and a ground game. But I would not like them to -mix- the two. As in, I do not want to be flying my ship, and have someone force their ground game mechanics on me by boarding my ship. It doesn't make sense for instance, that I might have amazing ship flight skills.. I might be a veteran of the game or something, but I don't want to take part in the ground game as much as someone else.. So it doesn't make sense that my veteran ship pilot can be boarded and suddenly taken over because someone's character is geared towards ground combat.
It's the teaspoon theory, that CCP said they didn't want to have. IE - a leader of some huge corporation can be sitting in a station, and have someone come up to him and kill him with a teaspoon. It just doesn't make sense, seeing as corp leaders and the like aren't always the most combat oriented, but they hold a great deal of power in game.
What I -do- want, is to be able to land my ship in a dock, say on a planet.. and suddenly take on the ground game with my same character, taking advantage of a completely different set of skills. I want to be able to jump between the two. This is something that CCP has stated they would love to expand the game into.
LOL, am I the only person that thought this was really carebearish?
"I'm a supah pilot and I don't want no soldjyuhs wit gunnz boardin muz ships!"
They better do something with ship to ship combat because as it stands EVE has the most boring and lame RPG combat known to man. When I first played EVE I deleted from it my HD halfway into the tutorial because I was laughing so hard at the horrendous combat. Then I needed a 6cc shot of adrenaline to prevent me from slipping into a coma. I only came back to EVE later because... well, WTF else is there for a sandboxer? It's not like I have options.
EVE rakes in the subs because it's the only sandbox out there. If they actually took a time out, made a proper ground game, integrated the two play types fully, they'd have the biggest block buster MMO out there that would probably pull in close to a million subs.
But having two mutually exclusive games within a game? Sounds lame as hell to be honest.
Edit: And with how limited and pointless the current planned ambulation is it makes me wonder why they even bothered. Pointless is putting it lightly.

Ummm.... are you, like, serious? Are you seriously asking what the "straight answer" is to why TR was cancelled?
It's because the game sucked and made it dick money. We're talking about a game which, one year after release mind you, was selling for less than a dollar on Amazon.com and couldn't even retain 30,000 subs.

What is your favorite fantasy character type?
