With the way MMOs have been going am I the only one that wishes Both UO and SWG reverted back to the way they used to be?
I'm currently playing Eve Online, While Eve is a spectacular game I still miss the good old "On foot" sandbox MMOs.
I've been pretty open minded when its come to MMO the last three to four years.
I've played Games like WoW, Lotro, Eq2, CoX and WAR that all held my interest for a decent amount of time.
These games made a decent effort of giving me a nice gameworld to play in and cute little talent trees to give me a hand full of options while setting up my characters.
While they helped me pass the time they just dont do it for me like UO or SWG did or Eve does.
Now You may be reading this and think "oh its just another sandbox fanboi" but im not I enjoy open ended worlds and having a choice when it comes to my avatar. I actually Played EQ for a long time and that game is basically what all the linear games have copied.
Anyway I miss the open ended game worlds, the near unlimited customization, the actual risk in pvp and communities that are actually social.
I'm gonna give a nod to another game before someone else brings it up in the thread.
Saga of Ryzom, Now this game is actually good. It lacks in pvp and economy however.
Its a great game but falls short of Eve, UO and SWG.
If both Sony and EA reverted SWG and UO back to the way they were I think most of us would still be playing them, even if they look dated.
Heres a poll:
Even when I played WoW i never thought of loot as what defined my character.
I became attached To my little night elf warrior because of the adventures I had.
The people I played with and the time I actually spent staring at that avatar on my computer screen.
Now to darkfall.....
What does it matter if his armor needs to be changed when he dies?
What does it matter if high level skills degrade overtime? if i let them degrade then I obviously dont need those particular skills.
My darkfall avatar will be an extension of myself, It wont matter what armor I have.
It will be about the adventures I have and the friends I make.
It's about the Oh shit moments and the bullshitting on vent that makes it all worth while not if I lose the Wtfpwn sword of doom.
Am I the only one that feels like this? Is the MMO community truely lost in this Gear grind "i own cause I gotz EPIZZZ" mentality. God I hope not that would be really sad.
Ehh I never really found Eve boring and I did the Mission grind and played solo high sec the first four months (bad Idea but I was a newb).
The game gets so much better once you join a real player owned corp.
I now live in 0.0 and have a blast playing with my friends.
Just make TR f2p, add a AD system and maybe a social cash shop.
transfer all the characters to 1 server and let it rake the money in.
makes no sense to close the game down when It could be converted to F2p and be alot better than 99% of the other F2p games on the market.
