Biography

Used to play SWG, but unfortunately the NGE destroyed it. I still can''t find a game like that one, I guess it''s true you never can go back, even in mmo''s lol.

    • A Vets Opinion
    • To the OP I feel your pain.  SWG was my first mmo as well and the only one that truly holds a place in my heart.  I left after the NGE , not right away, I did try to get into the new game enhancements, but it was obvious that it was not for me, or anyone with half a brain who doesn't want a game spoon fed to them.  I too had just unlocked my jedi when the NGE hit.  After a year of working on getting my jedi I was then swarmed by jedi's who just changed professions with a click of a mouse.  It took away all the hard work and pride I had regarding my jedi.  I won't even get into my poor creature handler and ranger.

I also went back to SWG when they had the big city bombing event in an effort to get rid of all the ghost towns that still stood on many of the servers.  I went back with a few friends and we basically saved our metropolis from being destroyed.  Even now our city still stands as a reminder that the game once was a living breathing thing.  Now all the shops and houses in our town are empty.  I tried my best to stay in the game but because my server was so empty it was impossible to do any of the new content since you need groups to do the quests.  Sony's answer to this problem is to line thier pockets with more of our hard earned cash by paying for a character transfer to a more populated server.  Sorry but I couldn't do that.  I spent to much effort saving the city that I live in to just up and leave in hopes of maybe meeting new players on a different server.  I just decided that it's better to leave her where she is with the rest of the townfolk who left the game forever.  I miss the game alot but I just can't see paying $15/month to be alone.

As for KOTOR..I have no hope that it will be like the old SWG.  The reason being because from what I've read and heard from other players is that Lucas himself was the main cause of the NGE.  If that is the case I don't see him making a game geared towards sandbox playstyle.  He didn't like it before, why would he go back to it now.  Just my opinion, maybe I'm wrong, I hope I am, I'd love to find a game like the old SWG, so far I haven't had any luck.  As for those who say try EVE online, I have.  I didn't like it because there is no real avatar, just a photograph.  THere's no interaction or socialization on land like there was in SWG.  I used to love holding parties and contests etc or scavenger hunts etc and EVE isn't really set up for that style of play, it's mainly a pvp style game, which is great for those who like that style.  But for me I like to socialize in between fighting.  Good luck to all my old SWG friends, maybe someday we will return to a Galaxy Far Far Away..

    • Things you hate about the MMO community and forums
    • I agree with alot of the posts in this thread.  That being said I don't like it when you are new to a game and when you ask a legitimate question in community chat or better yet a help chat you are screamed at by the majority of the game community.  Excuse me but that is the reason for a help chat, also not everyone in the game knows how to play it, I wish people would remember that they too were once newbie players.

I also don't like this new trend of grouping or adding members to a guild by class specification.  An example is; You just start playing a new game, you pick your class because it's interesting to you and as you begin playing you find it's definitely the class for you.  Now as you're leveling you find you need to group to do certain quests and when you try to get into a group you are shunned because of your class.  Same with those who are campaigning for new members in their guild and they specifically say , " Guild XYZ is looking for new members, you must be level such and such, no Rogues allowed."  I find this sort of thing to be really terrible.  No one should be shunned for chosing a class they like.  Not everyone wants to be a healer type or a tank type etc.  Every class in a game is there for a reason.  The players that number crunch and then actively post that said class is useless really mess up the game for those playing that class.  Guilds should accept members by personality more then their class.  I personally would rather play along side someone I get along with then say a total jerk who is playing a class that is more needed in the group.  I realize that in most cases if you need a healer you have to wait until one is able to join the group before heading out on a certain quest or dungeon, I get that.  But to automatically deny someone grouping because they are a less popular class even though you have room for them is just sad.  I'd much rather have a person in my group who knows how to play their class then someone who doesn't but chose the class because they will always be invited into the groups.

In regards to Ryzom, you say it's free to play , but isn't that just the newbie island area? I thought you were stuck there indefinitely or until you pay for the game monthly? I am curious because I'd be willing to give it another shot if I could actually see another part of the game besides the newbie area.  THanks for any information anyone can give me.

For the Op, I totally understand where you are coming from about the combat in most mmos.  I've heard that Maplestory is a fun f2p game with crafting, I haven't tried it myself because I am picky about graphics but it might be one to try.  Good luck in your crafting quest, I myself haven't found a good game with good crafting since I played Star Wars Galaxies.  But there's got to be something out there for you , don't give up!
