Any game that doesn't let you do something as simple as jumping kind of sucks in my book. Also I'm in the camp that doesn't consider GW an MMORPG. It's far to instanced.
There is no single answer. Some things must be done on the client some things must (or should) be done on the server. Typically movement must be done on the client so that the game is responsive. Also collision detection must be done on the client, or at least for the player’s character (and possibly other PCs). Otherwise you will be running though walls if there is a lag spike. However there could also be code that does at least some minimal verification of movement and other data that the client is passing down. In addition rendering is obviously done on the client. In my view most other things should be done on the server to keep data consistent and prevent hacks.

This was the video I saw when the whole Leeroy thing was getting talked about in WoW a couple of years ago now (at least it seems that long ago!):

Really don't think it was a fake. Think it became a cult classic as it was just a really idiotic wipe. I may be wrong, but I hopt it wasn't just made up as it used to make me laugh so hard that snotters would run down my face!
It was 100% fake. They guy who made the video ran around and agroed everthing he could. He even agroed some of the Dragon kin on the ledge. I've been to UBRS over 100 times. It's obviously fake.

Yeah I agree. I think the silent majority of MMO players want a cool world first and foremost. That's not to say you can skimp on everything else and still be successful but I do think it's hard to get away with a crappy world.

I dont get it so many people relate all the newer and even older MMORPGs to WoW like WoW invented everything they have in there game and no one else invented it before them, when really WoW copied atlest half of there stuff and used it in a different way. Also the success of WoW has lead people to thinking WoW is the best and will always be the best and everything is a copy of it.
Personally i played WoW for 3 years and it is an awsome game but im just so over looking at new MMOs and seeing all this BS about wahwahwah this is just like WoW when some features in it a similar but not alike. Anyways i finally found a game i like and its Runes of Magic its similar to wow but isnt a copy of wow or a cheap version of WoW i belive it will do great and has alot of new ideas to the MMORPG world.
:D i like QQing. But only for a good cause
It's simple. WoW is the current gold standard of MMOs. That is a absolute fact dictated by its user base. It doesn't matter if you (or anyone else) personally love or hate WoW. WoW is a consumer product and we are talking sales which make it by far #1. It only makes sense to compare new products with the best selling product that is currently out there. Yes WoW is now old and some people may be leavening because they are tired of it, but until someone knocks it off its high horse, every new MMO will be compared to WoW as it should be. It also doesn’t matter if WoW was the first MMO or not. We all know it wasn't and most of us know that it copied a lot of things from other MMOs. However, it did strike the right combination of features and for that it gets credit.
Are you still playing (or subscribed to) your first MMO?
