I think it takes a very different gamer to play a sandbox game rather than a linear game like most are today.  We are sort of shifting towards the linear games because:

No one wants to lose their loot - Better loot is fun to find, but if a game gets too item dependant then people don't want to lose their items they've "worked" so hard to get.  Which is a problem in itself because if the items were fun to get/craft in the first place this wouldn't be a problem

No one wants to "waste" time - Everything now has to be to the point or it's a waste of time.  Many people require teleporting or something along those lines because there's no fun in walking, there's nothing to see and discover that could be exciting.  If the game world was rich and full of surprises and secrets it would lead for a much more enjoyable travel.

Everyone wants to level up fast - Everyone needs to level up as fast as possible. why?...... well so you can get to the next level of course! This is why level based games are complained about so much.  They just require you to put in tons of time before you can get to the fun parts of the game.  And why? To hide the fact that there isn't enough content in the game to keep you busy if you weren't just blindly leveling.

I could go on and on.  I hope I didn't go too far off topic.  I think my point is that maybe it's not the psychology thats determining which games people decide to play, but the way MMO's are evolving over time (in the wrong direction in my opinion) thats forcing the players into enjoying a different type of gaming experience for lack of any other choice.

Those are some of the reasons why I quit MMOs.

      Darkfall
    • Good news, the next generation MMORPG is soon to be released, it's a little too hardcore though!

      They don't want risk.

      They don't want to think.

They don't want actual skill to be the deciding factor in pvp.

      Sad but true :(

That is true. It's even creeping upon the FPS genre.

Edit: I'm not waiting for Darkfall, though. I just gave up on MMORPGs for the time being.

      General Discussion
    • Recomended for ages 3-8; have fun! Some $ required.
    • LOL, Maple Story, ASDA Story, Rock Story, Legend Story, Shit Story, and the list goes on. These clones won't stop being made, until people realize the gameplay sucks. Many will never know because of their compulsive gaming habits.

Sure I do care what you guys think personally. But in the end I love MapleStory because of what it's truly made for. Which is chatting and exploring together.

I'm almost positive all my friends will quit but I will endure because i just love playing and this game is right for me.

      Now my opinion on MapleStory...

To me MapleStory has very good security compared to other games. No! You can't edit and get w/e you want, that's a lie. You can't get infinite anything. It's probably happened before, but those mistakes are fixed and are further prevented in the future. It uses GameGuard, which is really a waste of space for the computer but it's really good for preventing hacks or anything that should be prevented.

My initiative to play an online game is not for the graphics. I have invested 25$ into my character to make him look cooler with a card i bought at Target. Now you don't have to do this, but MS is simple and wonderful. There is a hell of a lot of bad people and just as many good ones.

One thing I've noticed in LIFE that applies to so many things is... the more good things there are to something, the more bad things there will be, and people only notice the bad things for the majority and don't even realize it. When and if they realize it, there insight changes drastically. For online games usually the main stimulation that gives intiative to play is sight. Because other sense that are used but don't apply in a pleasurable or drastic way.

I don't play to Grind, altho i do and i love it.

I love to meet all the people, and watch the game grow. People come and leave, and grow apart, but to me it's not a task to get on everyday or a duty, but simply a way to have fun.

I've tried nearly every F2P game there is, and one FPS, and MS is the first game I have EVER spent my money on. Why did I do it?

Because even before I started playing, I decided to invest something in it. PEOPLE!!! A game feels a lot more important if you give something to it.

You do not have too, and you are free to have fun any way you please. I am disappointed at your opinions of the game, but regardless it still stands and flourishes to this day and many days to come.

The people who leave and better to forget, and every is made to embrace with an open mind and full heart!

I am involved in school sports.

      I have exceptionally good classes.

I've met my share of people.

But... If MS was commercialized in a different manner by someone you really admire you would play it too.

      Ever heard of the saying...

Life is 20% of what happens and 80% of how you handle it?

Emotions are a state of mind and that includes fun. Your reasons and reasoning guide you to picking a game you may enjoy...

And I have found my dream game, because it suits me. That's just who i am...

The biggest factor in determining ANYTHING TO ANYWHERE 4EVA is Circumstance. Just how you get into the game by pure chance. It is valuable and something that rather finds you.

LOL, I can't even begin to tell you the stories I have from MS. Many wonderful times and memories, and after the content patch Im going back to play.

      Bye.

Nope. I would lose respect for the person advocating such a shitty game.
